i had not seen any info on the restructures, this isnt great info but is more than i was able to find anywhere else. i am not sure i understand why holmes would take what they already owed him. that part doesnt make sense to me, i would have expected them to have to guarantee him an extra year or something along those lines, hopefully something else will come out to clarify exactly how holmes was restructured. the cromartie info makes sense although its going to hit hard in 2014 if he pushed 6 million out. http://www.nj.com/jets/index.ssf/2013/03/jets_restructure_deals_for_ant.html As expected, the restructuring of Santonio Holmes' contract was made official today, according to league records. Holmes' base salary was reduced to $7.5 million, or the amount of guaranteed money he is owed in 2013. The Jets also restructured the deal of Antonio Cromartie. Cromartie was owed a $7 million base in 2013 and will now earn a base salary of $840,000, league records show. The difference will likely be recouped in bonuses and/or pushed into 2014. Some other quick changes: David Garrard is officially on a 1-year deal with a $1 million base salary. According to Yahoo!, Garrard was also given a $100,000 signing bonus. Josh Mauga, who also signed a 1-year deal on Friday, is slated to make $630,000 in base salary. According to NYJetscap, a site that tracks changes in the team's salary cap, the Jets are roughly $15.5 million under the cap for 2013. The alteration to Cromartie saved $4.23 million in cap space and the Holmes move saved roughly $3.5 million.
The Holmes restructure made sense for him. He's not going to play for more than $7.5M anywhere in the NFL this year. His 2014 contract terms remain unchanged as of now and nobody was going to sign him to a deal that might pay him $9.5M next year, not off the years he's had with the Jets. He has access to the Jets training facilities and medical staff to help him in his rehab instead of being out on the street footing all those bills on his own. In retrospect I should have seen this coming. It just made too much sense for all parties involved.
yeah that makes sense when you put it that way. i wasnt really thinking about it in that way. yeah armand i went through about 8 articles and none of them mentioned anything about the terms, this was the first guy i saw the terms from and he just gave you facts not some national enquirer bs blog like opinion shit.
The guy who was running the jets cap site started a league wide site called overthecap.com and he has had the jets info update over there rather quickly. Keep in mind the Cro restructure just pushes 4.25 of his cap hit from this season to next, making his 2014 hit just a shade under 15 mill.
Another thought that ever beat writer keeps missing. We are 15 mill under with the total of all signed players, but our top 51 is actually closer to 20 million under.
http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Jets&Year=2013 I'm not double checking all his numbers, but it has all the recent moves, so I'm as sure as this can make me.
i saw that earlier but wasnt sure if it was updated. very cool info thanks for the clarification on some of this stuff. i think that tj conley dead money of 334 bucks is going to kill us its funny talking in millions of dollars and then to see 334 down at the bottom of the page, but hey it counts too.
That the current total of 107 mill spent includes 60 contracts, seeing as we won't be entering the season with 60 players under contract there is slight more wiggle room. Keep in mind we need around 5.5 mill for our rookie pool and at least five mill in space for in season operations. So things are still very tight cap wise.
http://www.overthecap.com/teamcap.php?Team=Jets&Year=2014 Wow in 2014, look at the cap savings if we get rid of the top 3 plus Harris: Cro - $9.5M Sanchez - $8.3M Holmes - $8.25M Harris - $5M That's $31M in Cap savings. Personally I think Cro, Sanchez and Holmes will all be goners next year. Cro will be in the last year of his contract anyway and in the over 30 club. I see us signing Revis to a cap friendly contract for this year and then escalating the payout after we get rid of all the above. If we trade Revis then we'll restructure Cro, or let him go as well.
It's possible, but is very dependent both on thier play and the play of any potential replacement. You also need to keep in mind the dead money from cutting all of the would be a total of 15 million. So you are paying 15 mill against the cap to not have them on your roster. It's quite possible we could see an extension for Cro if he plays at last years level again. Sanchez is completely dependent on his play this year. If he some how morphs into a top 15 type Qb we may hang on to him, if not he's likely done. Holmes is not only dependent on his own play, but the development of the young receivers. Harris' number is seven mill next year in 2014 which is the last of his deal. I can see us letting him play it out and not brining him back. Another though, as of today we have around 33 mill in cap space entering 2014 if the cap stays flat. So while cutting any of those deals brings some relief, we have room to work with.
