Why is it so hard to believe a 26 year old Sanchez can get better? He is still a very young QB. He has a chance to get better especially now that he has a good OC that will play to his strengths. MM made Vick a good QB he might make Sanchez a pro bowler. We talk about Mark like he is a ten year Vet he is only going into his fifth season.

Garrard is a great signing if he can stay healthy he will be a great fill in if Mark does not take that step this year and stays a turnover machine.

Fitz I can even comment he is your definition of JAG he is at his peak he will not get better and he is still not as good as a bad Sanchez. Who by the way has not had an above average O-line in two years and the worst receiving core, after injury that I have ever seen on a NFL roster.

Lol...they're discussing Welker right now...point made about Brady...not a great thrower of the deep ball. They don't ask him to outside the numbers or deep down the filed. The offense runs through Welker.

It's a system issue here. Not puttin Nachoi in the same category, just pointing out the fallacy that outside and down is what QBs are supposed to do.

    This season, will be interesting.

He may get better down the road, but not in NY...The fans will eat him up and he has the confidence of a rejected hooker.

Aside from the utter garbage he pitched to last year, no one wants to address the system shortcomings.

2 less I completes a game, for completions..he completes 60pct. So much for the accuracy argument. If Holmes,Hill, Keller had been healthy is it even sane to argue, that he wouldn't have completed 32 more passes?

When he completes over 60 % this year, and has a positive TD/int ratio....and the team is north of 8 or 9 wins...he's not going anywhere.

They may look to the draft to get another QB, that can threaten his starting position...but they will not dump him in 2014.

AAMOF...if the two criteria I mentioned are met..they'll restructure him next year, for cap room, and it will include additional years.....

    Look at the underlying facts.

It's common knowledge that the QB gets a disproportionate share of the credit when the team wins, and blame when they lose.

the nfl caught up to the nachomonster about 2 years ago. they realized they needed to take away the slant and the tight end.

and sanchez has yet to prove he can throw any of the other throws. he has to throw the out and the 15 yard in and the crossing patterns because they will no longer allow him to throw the slant and to the te.

that is his own fault. had he been even decent at throwing outside the numbers and down the field he wouldnt be forced to throw it. they wouldnt have been able to take away the 4 or 5 good things he does.

the problem is he only does 2 things well. throw the slant and throw to the te. and since everyone realized that he has been a poor qb. its pretty simple really. get pressure, dont let hte slant and te beat you and you will win against mark sanchez.

defenses have NO respect for him, and that is damning as an nfl qb.

The thing is, Brady is amazingingly/historically good throwing the short ball and getting his receivers open and room to make plays.

Except for the most part Scotty and Sparano eschewed the heavy use of the slot receiver.

Otherwise you might have actually had a point.

It isn't hard to believe he can get better because his floor is very low at this point. It *is* hard to believe that he can get enough better to be of much value to the Jets.

Michael Vick had one good shortened season in 2010. He got Andy Reid fired with his play in 2011 and 2012. Using him as an example of MM's abilities to get the best out of a QB doesn't work because Vick hasn't been all that good the last couple of years and that's a major part of the reason that Reid got fired.

Paul Hackett got an aging Vinny and then an injury-prone Chad to work with.

Heimerdinger was handed a total mess.

Brian Schottenheimer inherited the injury-prone Chad, was gifted Kellen Clemens in the draft, got Favre for a season and then Sanchez.

Tony Sparano got something that makes a mess look neat by comparison.

If the Jets want Marty Morhinweg to have a substantially better result than the four guys who preceded him at OC they better give him a substantially better QB than those guys had.

    BINGO.

This is an excellent summation of Sanchez's strengths and weaknesses and why he's struggled once defenses figured this out.

What's even more discouraging is that the slant routes and passes in the middle of the field to the TE are about the easiest throws for NFL QBs to make... so while Sanchez looks good in those throws, most NFL QBs would as well. Since he struggles throwing outside, he doesn't offer much that any other not-so-good QB would offer. Couple those limitations with a lack of confidence and a truly awful lack of awareness with the football and you have yourself a disaster (see 2012 Jets)

Things aren't looking up for him either as he's about to lose his TE.. has a new F.O. and coordinator that aren't married to him. Very possible he doesn't make it out of TC as the starter.

That offense does NOT run through Welker. That's completely laughable. They'll replace him with Edelman or whoever and Welker will sink into obscurity. If he's smart he'll sign back up in NE for cheaper where he can play longer.. instead of taking the highest bidder where he will wash out of the NFL in a couple years.

It became a system in NE because they had a HOF QB who MADE it a system. Brady would have had a similar career for any organization in the league, our Jets included. Brian Schottenheimer, Tony Sparano, Rex Ryan, etc.. would be considered "geniuses" much like Belichick had they been fortunate to coach the greatest QB of all time... instead this primadonna jackass they all had here.

Don't worry Junc- He was "figured" out long before that. He just had a great defense and running game to keep him relevant.

To throw outside the numbers and down the field requires time and Sanchez has not had an abundance of time the last two seasons.

I also think the lack of a pass catching running back hurt Sanchez a lot he never really had any true check down. Proved even more by how many sacks Mccelroy took.

When Aaron Rogers receivers were hurt last year ho dinked and dunked all day Sanchez did not have that luxury.

Just look around the league and tell me what teams are doing with you Qbs you guessed it getting the weapons. Miami, SF, Seattle

That is how you grow your QB not by surrounding him with scrubs. The funny parts is the teams adding weapons are team that already have weapons that is how you build a QB.

Sanchez best year he had Holmes, Edwards, Cotch and Keller and you cant really call that elite but at least they were good.

Since then he receiving core has sucked coming to a boil in 2012. Did you guys actually see who were lining up at receiver? Braylon came in and started and did not even know the offense and was injured.

They Jets have wrote the book on how not to develop a QB but at least they had a good OC. Oh wait nope a young and inexperienced OC in Schotty and a incompetent OC in Sparano.

(Schotty might have and still might become a better coordinator but he needs or needed to work with an offensive head coach. )

Yep all on Sanchez no chance for him to get better with a competent OC and some weapons.

    TE's are a QB's safety blanket.

How is Mark going to feel about losing one of the best offensive players they had?

Could you imagine the fallout on this board if Mark becomes a legit QB elsewhere and we are still without one? That should be a Jets fans worse nightmare. I mean the fan base wouldn't know what to do with themselves.

Turnovers notwithstanding...he had a good year accuracy wise last year, all things considered.

Mickey Shuler, al toon, Wesley Walker...Keyshawn Johnson...Wayne Chrebet?

Enjoy it. Keller is over rated, and now..he's overpaid. Enjoy.

And yes, I said it before free agency.discussed it on the boomer and Carton show a month ago.
