The Cro restructure is a brilliant move and took me completely by surprise. He also doesn't seem to be a camera whore like Tannenbaum. Now, if he can just pimp slap Manish and Myers a couple of times, I'll be happy.
Very pleased with the GM and his even keeled approach to retaining talent and core players . I truly do not believe we will make any big splashes and will bring back some role players we released to fill any spots not filled by draft picks or low budget free agents. The core players are there , now all we need is some decent to solid Quarter back play and who knows.
John Idzick is doing every smart thing on paper so far. obviously something can go sour, but considering how he's handled things I'm only more optimistic about the jets than I was in 2012. The only thing i'm worried about is that we may not get the most out of our savings, but we shall see. so far so good.
I gave a bum a dollar the other day. He didn't run out and buy a steak. he must of been a thrifty bum. I think it is way too early to judge. He is doing exactly what he can. He's not making a splash because he can't (or at least can't without mortgaging the future's future). And the restructure of Cro is not earth shattering. Other teams restructure people all the time. I can't say it was a brilliant move. It seems smart, but again, it moves money into the future and that got Tanny in a lot of trouble. If Cro is a good soldier and plays well, it makes sense. If Cro goes into the toilet and get released (doubtful), gets hurt, or gets traded, it won't be such a great idea. I think he has done what nearly every new GM would have done. Let's talk this time next year.
I'm disappointed that his first move on Day One wasn't cutting Sanchez. If you're going to rebuild (and we are), you should get rid of all of the crap first (even if it means cutting some actually valuable assets to make it work with the cap). I am delighted, however, with how he's handled the Revis situation so far.
Good post. Very happy with Idzik so far. The roster looks like it's been pelted with a shotgun at the moment, but have full faith in what looks like a real GM. Way more excited with rebuild-mode 2013 than previous years. Also happy that this will likely require more out of the asset we have in defensive mastermind Rex - our D will be fine as long as Rex is at the helm. Having Rex trying to make a defense work is a luxury, compared to him having to fix an offense. What we've needed, and need now more than ever in a QB driven league, is an O that can be effective and consistent. The worst thing that could've happened is not embracing and accepting the need for rebuild. Franchise QB > Franchise CB
I'm in agreement with OP. Nothing splashy, nothing big, just going after bargain bin FA. Getting rid of the older/slower players, not being held hostage by Revis camp & keeping media in the dark. Very different vibe so far. It's too early to judge him as a GM but so far I'm really liking what he's doing. Looking forward to his first Jets draft.
Let me make a point about the QB play. On 450 throws last Year..Sanchez completed 54 %. While playing a crap system, breaking in Hill, and a rash of injuries to Keller,Cumberland,Holmes and Hill. Now...do the math. 30 I completes becoming completes, would have put him at 60%. That's 2 inc to completes per game. So, in accuracy terms, given the context he played well..... That leaves eradicating turnovers, which admittedly is a big issue... But I think it's safe to predict a solid year, finally from the number 5 overall.
And given the talent available, and looking for work, in a day or two, you can grab some decent hold the fort for a draft or two guys...
This is the NFL. Rebuilding o's a misnomer. The Jets are returning 90pct of last years opening day offense, healthy with an upgrade at OC. We've done a bit of bloodletting on defense, but Davis will step in for Scott, safety is still a question mark, and you lost two minor role players on DLine. So... You need one or two OLB. One more Safety (josh Bush will get a chance to step up) And you need JAG to be in the DLine rotation. That's hardly a rebuild. That's called getting younger and faster. The Mets, are rebuilding.
This is too early because FA and the draft are not done but: QB-Same RB-Same(Greene gone but he sucked) OL-Worse(Moore and Slauson may be average but they're still gone completely) TE-Worse(Keller gone) WR-Better DL-Better(Coples/Wilk will progress) LB-Worse(Bart/Pace/Thomas all sucked but they're still gone completely) CB-Worse(assuming Revis is gone) S-Worse(Landry gone) I don't know that it is a credible argument that the Jets are better. Maybe they have the possibility of infusing with youth and being about the same but at this point given the holes you have to say they are worse
'Rebuild' is misnomer, huh. So you think Idzik would be content with having roughly the same starting O as last year, then. Not too sure about that. Revis did not play last year. CB same. The OL is still undecided Jets are looking to retain Slauson, and RG , if the Jets don't retain Moore, the logical conclusion is they think he's spent. LB younger, faster better. Davis, allegedly ready to play, and Scott was a liability, in any case. You'll be getting faster on the outside. A wash at worst. Safety will suffer of Landry is gone but not replaced. Too early to tell. But...in terms of worse/better there's no way, given the state of the roster, that's its going to be worse than last year...when they were playing guys that should have been bagging grocieries at the skill positions. Greene ....addition by subtraction. Keller, overrated, now wants to be overpaid.may not even be gone. But Cumberland is more than adequate in his role. A wash.
I have been a Jets fan for over 30 years and this is the first time in a long time I feel we are doing the right thing. Get younger, build through the draft. Lets see what MS does this year and then we have to deside which way were going. But over all I am happy the way things are playing out.
