Trying to see what the overall consensus is on our first round pick. If the following are available, who would you take for our first pick? If other, state who you would take in your response.
Warmack. I want to build an Elite OLine and he's the start of that. If not its a toss up between Jordan and Jones (depending on his physicals). I know people hate the notion of taking a guard at 9 but the more I watch and study the kid the more I fall in love with what he could bring us. We could build up the line and get some nice depth on the defense this season and in 2014 draft our QB of the future. The more the offense is set up the quicker we can get back into contention.
Jones, than Ansah or Jordan over every one else on that list. Mingo, sure if he's there in the second round. I would not even place him close to the others there.
Read an article stating USC misdiagnosed Jarvis Jones. If possible, I'd like Jets doctors to examine him and double check the spinal diagnosis. If it's a false report by USC then Jarvis Jones is 100% the best choice. If USC was correct, then I'd go with Dion Jordan.
i am split between warmack, jones, jordan, and moore. my negative with moore is his age (20-21?) this is the first pick for idzik and its a can't miss scenario for him - so either warmack or jordan comes closest to that for me. the pick may very well depend on the revis compensation.
u can be assured that jones' xrays/mri will be examined and re-examined dozens of times. at this time of the year u never know the accuracy of these articles - there are many instances of negative reports coming out on players over the years - there draft stock goes down - and they turn out to be a steal. 2 of the most telling examples of that are marino and sapp.
i worry about giving first round money to a 21 year old. as an owner/gm - i would have to be convinced that the player is mature beyond his calendar age and has the proper support staff in place. u can argue whats the difference if the player is 21 or 23/24 but IMO each year of added maturity is important when ur in the spotlight. just a pet peeve of mine and i would absolutely use it as a factor in my evaluations.
No denying Warmack is an outstanding NFL prospect, especially suited for a pro power running game. If the Jets draft him, I won't complain. IMO, Cooper would be a better fit in Marty's system. Cooper does everything well and is a better player in space and pulling than Warmack. I'm not dissing Warmack, I just feel Cooper's game is better for the Jet's new offense. Cooper's stock has been on the rise and don't be surprised both players will be gone by #15.
Interesting. I had the opposite reaction, actually, because being young means that an elite player will have more years to play, but your consideration is definitely important. I also just really like Moore's ability as a passrusher on the field, compared to Jordan's run-stopping ability. He is a beast.
Looking at the effect of age on top 10 picks would be an interesting study. I'd sort it out into 3 groups: 1. All players that were under 21 when they were drafted. 2. All players that were 21 when they were drafted. 3. All players older than 21 when they were drafted. It would be kind of useless to differentiate players 23 and older since so few of them have been taken in the top 10.
It's funny, I was thinking similarly right after I posted, and while I did still prefer Warmack over Cooper, even in this system, I like his value if we trade down. He's the 1b to Warmacks 1a for sure. His ability to get to the second level as well as his supreme athletic ability is taylor made for this offense. Would not be surprised in the least if Warmack goes 9 to the Jets and Cooper goes 11 to the Chargers.
I chose Warmack over Dion Jordan, because one of our largest weaknesses recently has been OL play and protecting the QB. That said, I think Jordan will be off the board by 9, and we might be able to jump back a few spots and grab Warmack. My theory is that Buffalo will almost certainly take a QB now one spot ahead of us. If that is the case, then it may force another team to jump up to our spot and draft another QB if their guy is on the board. Example: if Buffalo surprises us all and takes Nassib or Barkley at 9, someone may jump on the chance to take Geno Smith, since they figured he would already be gone. Every year, some team reaches for a QB they shouldn't reach for, and with the first QB likely off the board, it may trigger that overreaction.
If we somehow got the Bucs 1st I would love Warmack or Cooper there. I agree with what both of you said... In MM's offense, the emphasis is more on mobility instead of power, which Cooper may fit better by a slight margin. Pair him up with my boy in the 2nd round and I would be extremely happy haha.
He's 5'9" 174 lbs. The only WR I could find anywhere near that size to go in the top 10 going back to 2001 was Ted Ginn, Jr.
If they can trade back and pick up up mid to late first round that's perfect but if not I would be happ y with taking him at 9. Especially if Jordan and jones are off the board. He's a threat that will strike fear in a defense and can score anytime he gets the ball in his hands. His elusiveness, agility, footwork, speed, acceleration are like no other plus this kid has a set of hands on him. He's not a body catcher. I think MM can get the ball in his hands in space and this kid can be a star. Yea he's not as big as u wish he would be but the kid can play some football and put points on the board. Size doesn't mean everything
He's smaller than Santana Moss and that's about the floor for an effective WR in the NFL. As a slot WR and return man he'll probably be really good but he turns the medium sized fast CB's into giants.
