Why do you think that Revis could not reach a deal with the Jets? You certainly cannot say that you know they can't come to a deal now, since the Jets are not even trying to reach a deal with him. You seem to be implying on this thread that no matter what the Jets cannot contend for at least three years. I disagree. Perhaps that is the basis of our disagreement.
I wouldn't consider it surrender. I'd consider it bowing out from the equivalent of talking to a wall.
Just because you can't win the argument does not mean I am not presenting valid points against yours. Come up with better arguments, or accept that you are a loser.
My question is, what does anyone think Revis will really command on the open market? do you really see anyone giving him $15 million a year or more? I think he is worth more to the Jets than any other team in the league
in the effort of not hijacking this thread..i'll say this and nothing more. your attempts at being an internet mobster and smart guy really isn't funny...well i guess it's funny from where i'm sitting but if i were you i'd feel pretty shitty about myself. your need to blow off steam and have a perceived sense of superiority on a message board is sad to watch. i mean whatever works, but its kinda not a good look... either way, carry on.
its really hard to say until 2013 develops...if he pulls an AP and his knee is fine which recent medical recoveries of players with similar injuries suggest he will, he will command top dollar. other FA's avail, other CB's deals, draft class and overall cap situations for teams in 2013 and onward will also play a big role.
I don't feel a need to be perceived to be superior. I am confident I am superior to you. Why should that make me feel shitty? You can't make sense about anything.
It's been awhile since i read it, and I do not have the link now, but an analysis I read says that based on the common perception that the Eagles and Bills both overpaid in their deals for Aso and Williams, respectively, and given the number Revis last signed at, the fact that he has one year left on his contract at a below market number, makes a number near or at $13mil a year a fair price.
I agree completely. 12-13 million is a reasonable price coming off injury. I know many have speculated stuff about Revis "wanting" more money, but there's no actual evidence of this. His value is down, therefor it's a good time to take advantage and retain him for cheaper than it normally would cost. Trading him while his value is low gives us cap relief, but doesn't make us better. In fact, if we trade him, I think it will actually SLOW DOWN our rebuilding process because we lose an immediate impact player and have to develop picks and hope they pan out sooner rather than later. I'd rather build the defense around him, than trade him away for a few rookies that may or may not make us better in the future. I would only trade Revis if it gets us at least one immediate playmaker on offense, preferably 2. Otherwise there is a net loss, unless we get lucky and draft the next Revis. Chances of that are so low, it's barely worth mentioning, however. Cromartie, on the other hand, has the highest value of his career right now, so trading him makes much more sense, because we'd probably get near the same value for him as we would for Revis with his injury.
It is not just his game play, teams would be buying the whole Revis island image. And this includes all the extra ESPN coverage, prime time games, an explosion of Jersey sales and a fired up fan base. I am sure he could get 14 million per year easy as a free agent.
Stop posting this bullshit. You are flat out lying. Every time you post it I'm going to respond with the truth. http://www.nypost.com/p/sports/jets/revis_wants_to_run_dash_N7JtAAmUowI7BwNng58MAP That's the NY Post btw, not the Daily News.
but its ok guys...lets keep revis and let him "test the market" because he'll give us a good price anyway..especially because he's proven willing to do that in the past. And it's the Jets!11!!!!1!. He loves this team as much as we do. smh
As I have noted before and you continue to show, you think Revis should sign with the Jets for less than he is worth. And that if he doesn't he should be traded. That is nonsense. Does Flacco love the Ravens? Is there a single player on the Jet roster right now who signed a deal with the Jets for less than they are worth on the open market becuase they love the team? Can you name just one? Not being able to name even one, you nonetheless think that is precisely what Revis should do. That doesn't make any sense at all.
here's the latest from Schefty. ESPN's Adam Schefter stated on SportsCenter Thursday that the Jets are "determined" to trade Darrelle Revis. "The one thing that does seem very apparent: The Jets are determined to make a deal for Darrelle Revis," Schefter said. "They'd like to make it at any point before the draft, so that there would be picks involved in this trade that they could use to help rebuild and replenish this roster." It's been suggested that the Jets might get 70 cents on the dollar if they traded Revis before he's proved his health in camp or preseason games. They seem willing to roll that dice.
