This is a great point. The same people bailing Sanchez out point to Sparano and say that even despite they injuries they can tell Sparano sucked. Yet we can't do the same with Sanchez? It is beyond delusional and trolling at this point.

You can't tell what Sparano might have done absent the Tebow situation, and the injuries.

The argument iis, as far as OCs go, you now for the first time have a proven OC.

Sparano was hindered by the same constraints. As well as being a run first OC with. Green RT.

Sparano wasnt a OC to begin with, he never had that kind of experience. Thats why he is coaching the Oline for the Raiders because no one else but the Jets were dumb enough to give him that job as OC

If Kevin Kolb becomes a cap casualty hed be an intriguing option. Knows the system too.

But he was Rex's hand-picked guy! A guy that matched his philosophy on defense. But now that guy is Marty Mornhinweg...somehow

It sends a bad message that you start a guy because of his contract. Especially Sanchez who imo doesn't deserve to even compete for the job.

I dont Rex is too concerned with what message he sends. He drafted Sanchez and as everyone knows he loves the guy...

I just dont think there is anyway Rex will allow Quinn or Garrard to start this season no matter how they do in preseason.

After trying the Coryell (Schott) and Erhardt-Perkins (Sparano) systems with Nacho, it became only natural to try the remaining pro offensive philosophy (WCO) and remove all doubt as to whether he is total garbage.

Rex benched Sanchez plus Rex knows that this could be last season with the Jets. So he's gonna make sure he puts the best players out there that he feels gives him the best chance to win. If Sanchez happens to win the job in training camp but then sucks during the season I doubt he'll stick with Sanchez as long as he did in 2012, he'll start either Gerrard or McElroy.

Rex benched Sanchez for what..a half? And then after the backup led the team to a win he handed the job right back to Sanchez who proceeded to play the team right out of the playoffs. Winning against Jax despite Sanchez' best efforts and then playing one of the worst QB performances ever against Tenn. That might be the weakest benching ever. Sorry but Rex hasn't yet shown he is willing to go away from his BFF

Rex benched Sanchez after the week 15 Tenn debacle, and named McElroy the starter for remaining 2 games.
The look of anger and disgust on Rex face toward Sanchez (as Mark skipped out to midfield to shake hands with opposing coach) showed me it was the final straw.

However, McElroy had concussion symptoms after week 16 game, forcing him to miss week 17 and Sanchez back into the lineup.

it was painful to see him march back out there again, i had hoped once he got benched that we wouldnt see him again, for any reason... yet he came back... sucked... got benched again... came back again and sucked again...

and now these fucking assholes want me to be ok with him coming back yet again.

this is going to be a tough year for me if i have to watch this suck ass qb play even on and off all year.

There's probably less than five on this board who actively want to see him out there. Most fans are either sick of him, or reluctantly accept the possibility of seeing him start.

I'd like to see Sanchez play with a proven offensive coordinator and weapons around him last year was kind of unfair for him but at the same time the guy has had plenty of chances and hasn't really shown that he can be good. I don't trust him but then again I kind of want to give him a chance in this new system and with some talent at reciever and a runbingbacks that can catch like LT did. I'm 50/50 on it but more towards a new qb because he has had his four years to do something and the offense has sucked every year besides the run game. I wouldn't mind having Kolb play for us. I also do not want to see Rex fired no matter how next season goes. I believe he is and outstanding coach and he is learning on the job. Yea he doesn't kno what to do with the offense but deffinsely I wouldn't want anyone else running are D

Can it even be considered a benching once the playoffs were out of reach? That takes absolutely zero balls. Point is Rex has yet to show he is willing to start another QB in a meaningful game. Maybe that happens this year but I'm willing to bet Sanchez starts week 1 even if reports are that whoever you sign to "compete" with him is doing equal or slightly better in camp/preseason.

Agreed. Every Jets forums last season was going crazy for Rex to make the QB switch much earlier. No matter how much Jets media pressed Rex, he had the same answer on repeat - "He gives us the best chance to win". After McElroy helped win a game that Sanchez nearly threw away, Rex went back to Mark with the same "He gives us the best chance to win" speech. As most of us expected, the Jets were knocked out of the playoff contention soon afterwards.

However, there is a hope that the Rex could be forced to break his sink-or-swim relationship with Sanchez. Tanny was fired. Last season, Sanchez being sent to the bench is a big red mark on both Rex & Tanny (especially with the contract extension). Idzik doesn't have these loyalties. The big hope is that new GM will put pressure on Rex to ensure that there is an honest, legit QB competition.

Personally, I believe that there's gonna be a real, legit QB competition. What will frustrate many Jets fans (including myself) is that Sanchez will likely win the starting job anyway. No salary cap room, weak QB draft class, and the offense & defense have so many weaknesses talent-wise. Idzik should know better than to force a QB pick early in the draft. If Idzik drafts a QB, it's going to be based on the value of his chart.

    ============
Rex did show zero balls. Honestly, if the home crowd wasn't so hard on Mark, I really believe Sanchez starts all 16 games & Rex is OK with it.

I understood WHY Rex went back to Sanchez after the Arizona game, Rex felt like he wanted to see how Sanchez would respond to getting benched. We all saw him shit the bed against the Jags even in victory.

He did bench Sanchez in a meaningful game, putting McElroy in there for a half. Should have kept it that way for remainder of season though.
But even benching him again for week 16 was significant.
It was the second benching, and a statement that the Jets are moving in a different direction, despite the lack of quality QB backups and Sanchez tremendously guaranteed contract.

Sanchez is out of the future plans, and Ryan is quite possibly out of a job after the season.
What possible motivation would he have to start Sanchez if someone playing better in camp? I think they'll actually give anyone not named Sanchez the benefit of the doubt in camp....ie, their job to lose.

The key now is bringing in guys you'd be comfortable starting, and not just 'competition' like Brunnel and Clemens were, or the lack of option Tebow was.
