As I have said several times before, it is childish to pretend that ALL of the difficulties that arose in previous contract negotiations with Revis were his fault, with NONE of hte blame belonging to Tanny and Woody. Tanny was just fired, mostly for his role in mishandling several important contracts. W also know about his role in the Pete Kendall fiasco.

Why people are intent without any evidence on blaming Revis exclusively is inexplicable and willfully ignorant.

Plus why do we give a shit. If we can sign him without breaking the ban sign him if we can't trade him.

This should have nothing to do with if Revis is a bad guy or not. All I know he works hard at his craft and has been the best in the business at it.

I am completely against trading revis. He is the only thing good about this team. He's the only sure thing. Week to week we know we will have the best corner and possibly the best defensive player in the league on the field. Nothing else is consistent about this team. No matter what we know the other teams best receiver will not score and his stat line will likely look like 3-27, or 4-43. He is a hall of fame player and what will you get back for him? A couple of decent draft picks that may or may not work out? Only way I consider trading revis is for a franchise qb or one of the best pass rushers in the game today. The jets arent getting that back because no one is giving that up so keep your once in a lifetime talent and fix your putrid offense.

How does one fix a bad offense by tying up so much money into Revis?

Do you seriously, even for a second, think Revis will sign again with the cash poor Jets when this season is over? That is why you trade him and hope to get anything better than a third in the process.

Everthing you say about Revis is true. He can shut down the other teams best option. He allows us to play different converges. He is a Hall of famer (if he can come back in top form again). But this team has too many holes created by his kind of salary request being met by Mike T.

We will go in a new direction. Either Revis is traded and we can get some prospect/draft picks back. Or, He plays out this year at 6M (has "hamstring" issues) and then tests the open market to the highest bidder, we will still receive a conditional.

Revis is the polar opposite of #12 in NE. Brady is willing to set aside personal wealth to WIN. Revis would rather have personal wealth than win. If he wasn’t of this mind set, we would have already signed him to an extension, and we wouldn’t be talking about his contract/holdout for the third time...Hit the bricks Revis...

Brady's wife makes more money than he does, so it's a little less important to him. He also plays for an organization who he's actually won championships with and wins the division every year with - none of which has happened for Revis. So the situations are quite different.

Revis haters also refuse to acknowledge Brady's signing bonus, his age and relation to the length of his new contract, and easily achievable guarantees when they refer to his new contract.

Either way a HOF QB is willing to get paid less than our injured CB...Seems weird.

How are the Jets going to be cash poor once they get beyond the existing cap problems for 2013????

Look, for most people who would care to characterize my posts here in general, I think most would say I am somewhere in the mddle of the pessimism to optimism scale, perhaps closer to the pessimism side. I am not one who tends to be overoptimistic in any event.

But it is my view far from clear that the Jets HAVE to part ways with Revis. It is far from clear that they will be better off doing so, as well.

The reflexive anti-Revis statements made on these threads imo is a response to the fear that he will in fact be leaving, so it's best now to make light of that happening. It is a form of denial, and also a failure to acknowledge that the apparent direction of Woody Johnson here is unhelpful as well.

The Jets have a football moron for an owner. I don't assume he will make hte right decision here.

It has nothing to do with my being optimistic or pessmistic. If the Jets want to keep Revis, they can. If Woody is pissed off at him and wants to get rid of him, that will not be good for the team.

I am sure a lot of Cowboys fans felt exactly the same way when Jimmy Johnson - and to a certain extent, Jerry Jones - dealt Herschel Walker.

Mind you, Walker was literally the lone bright spot of the team. Coming off 1-15, nonetheless.

Also, let me point out that, what happened to Cowboys afterwards is completely irrelevant. The correct strategy coming into this situation is dealing Revis and turn that into multiple starters.

We can't get rid of Sanchez this year. Not unless you want practice squad level talent starting for multiple offensive positions.

The Walker trade was one of the more lopsided trades in favor of the Cowboys in history.
If the Jets can get that type of return value, i'm all for it. I think most people would be.
But with Revis coming off an ACL, not locked into any contract and looking to cash in, it makes this situation much more unique.

Moving him for a 2nd rounder, and taking an increased 2013 cap hit as result, doesn't make this team better in 2013 or beyond in my opinion.
If Revis truly looking for 16mil (i haven't read anything to substantiate that), then that might force the Jets to move him under value, which is a very poor scenario for the team.

I'm hoping they either get a lot of return value, or find a middle ground on which to re-sign him.

You hit nail on the head with this. Don't think Revis and his agent know this; so do the Jets. In all actuality the Jets have very little leverage. Our only hope is that two or three teams silently get into a bidding war and try to sign Revis to a font loaded deal 3years 30 gurenteed with incentive this year (injury related). Hmmm maybe the Jets could have taken this course BEFORE everybody knew he was being shopped. No lack of drama with this fucking team...

Imagine the unluck this team has gotten regarding this situation. San Francisco traded Alex Smith for a 2nd and conditional next year because the draft class is weak while their backup has performed admirably and the franchise QB. The timing for them is perfect. Joe Flacco is a FA this year, the year after winning a Super Bowl, thus becoming the highest paid player in NFL history. Is he the best player ever? NO. Would he get paid as much if he wasn't a "Super Bowl winner"? No. Perfect timing...

Our situation: the team sucks, our best player is in his last year of contract asking for new big time contact, while he was just hurt with a big time injury. We can't risk signing big contract because we don't know if he's him old self or worse, we need help in other ways so a big deal won't help us, and other teams know ALL OF THIS so will low ball and make us take best offer or lose him at end of year for free(Compensation pick). This situation sucks.

I'm a soccer fan and have seen teams sell their best players and sign 3-4 quality guys. Helps team to get rid of best players and sign guys to help team whether in financial or new direction sort of plans. Obviously giving Revis away isn't option #1, but lets be realistic. We aren't winning this year, so having Revis on our team for his last year with no intent to resign for the money we are offering than losing him for free at end of the year seems like bad business. I'm starting to wonder if trading Cromartie would be more beneficial. All star, shut down corner, play maker, coming off best season... can we get a 2 for him? Trade to SF for KC 2nd(34) and maybe a 4/5 if we throw in something to even trade value?

The Ravens made a mistake here. They should have offered Flacco a 5 year $80M deal with a bunch of money upfront for him. There's no way he's worth the contract they gave him. They're paying him for Ozzie and DeCosta's talent acquisition finally getting the team back over the top.

Let him go free agent knowing that if a team signed him to the $120M deal it was their funeral and not the Ravens. Draft a replacement and rebuild the window but from a point of strength instead of the weakness most teams face.

The point is that Joe Flacco is not Tom Brady or Peyton Manning or Aaron Rodgers. He's not going to make your team a 12 win team even when the talent is not quite there on the season.

Interesting how people are bringing up the Herschel Walker trade as if it's a guarantee that bringing in a ton of picks will engineer an automatic turn-around.

You know who else got traded for a TON of picks? Eric Dickerson. Funny I don't remember the Rams being a late 80's early 90's powerhouse.

This organization is so fucking backward and it starts at the top. This is the only place that would pay a decent middle linebacker top 5 salary, but when the best defensive player wants to get paid as such, they penny pinch and essentially tell him to GTFO.

As I've said before, Riggins, Moss, Farrior, Keyshawn...get ready to see another elite football player walk OUT of NY when it should be the other way around.

Terrible example. The Rams went 11-5 and 10-6 with Dickerson ... and ... proceeded to go 11-5 and 10-6 right after they traded him. They went to the playoffs the four years he was on the team and the two years after he was traded. There was no noticeable difference in the performance of the team.

Actually if you had a shred of intelligence you'd see how it proves my point. With the draft haul the Rams got, by Jets fans logic they should've been loaded with talent and ready to make the jump to powerhouse. I never said that the Jets would get worse by dealing him...how could that be possible when the secondary already played 13 games without him last year?

People want to assume that the picks we'll get for Revis are automatic and should speed up the rebuilding process. Bullshit. The Walker trade was an anomaly because they had Jimmy fucking Johnson evaluating talent for them at a time when teams had no idea how to look at prospects. We have a bean counter in the most advanced scouting age of the NFL.
