I could see this. Dont want them to trade Revis, but 49ers can do it with out losing much.

    From Profootballtalk.

The trade sending quarterback Alex Smith to Kansas City can’t be officially completed for a while yet, but that isn’t stopping people from talking about what they might be thinking about doing next.

Jason Cole of Yahoo! Sports reports via a pair of sources that the 49ers have discussed the possibility of trading for Jets cornerback Darrelle Revis and that they are “poised” to make a run at trading for him even if it is just for one year. Cornerback was as weak a spot as there was on the NFC champs last season so there’s probably not much need to explain why the prospect of acquiring Revis would be appealing.

The Niners certainly have the ammunition for it. Assuming the Chiefs trade goes through, they’ll have 12 draft picks with three more selections (which can’t be traded) expected through the compensatory system. There aren’t 15 roster spots up for grabs on the 49ers so it makes sense to leverage those picks for quality instead of quantity. With the Chiefs second-round pick, the 49ers would have five of the first 93 picks in the draft and that would be an obvious starting point in any Revis trade.

It’s all speculative at this point, but the bounty of picks and space for Revis in San Francisco mean we’ll probably be hearing more on this front.

IMO, a trade will happen sooner than later. I don't think the Jets want Revis on the roster for his roster bonus, and work out bonus.

Im in favour of this. I dont know what we get from this, but the 31 and 33 would do the job in my book.

Who has the leverage here? Smith wants out of SF and the Jets [seemingly] don't want Revis.

This would be a dumb decision on our part. Why would we want the 31st pick in the first round. We would also be making the 49ers the best team in the NFL, not like it matters to us in the AFC. If they were willing to give us 2 first rounders i would listen

The 1st pick in the second round is like an extra 1st round pick in my book.

We're also strapped for cash, coming off a #2 pass D ranking without him, starving for talent on offense, and he's coming off a torn ACL. That's before you even factor in he wants to be the highest paid defender in the league. It makes a lot of sense to trade him if the compensation will help the team in many areas.

Revis is already signed threw this season, Trading him isnt gonna give us cap space for this season. He cant hold out in the last year of his contract or a clause comes in and another 3 years get tacked on the contract at 3m per year. So i say lets see if he returns to form and resign him in the middle of the season, or trade him before the deadline , because we wont get fair value for him right now and if we just "give" him way it could end up haunting this franchise for the next 5 years

The miners first, and the second acquired from the chiefs.

if he returns to form, he will not sign a new deal when he can go to free agency and get a bidding war going. if he doesn't return to form who is going to trade for him? the fact that he wants mario money already stops us from getting fair value.

if we are going to do it, do it asap. the press will be all over this if it goes into the season and it will be the big distraction this team needs to avoid this year

Sure, so you pay 6 mil to a malcontent that will have hamstring issues all season.

    Great move.

Or do you think in a contract year, he's going to risk further injury?

The miners first, and the chiefs second, is as close to two firsts as you need to get. You would be gettin four of the top 40 picks.

We can trade the 33 pick for a 1st round pick next year just like the Cheatriots did a few years ago.

I would love Revis to retire a Jet, but his history of "me first" & his agents are bloodsuckers, I would definitely take 31 & 33 now and build through the draft!!

I've seen the 31 & 33 being the primary deal, but there has been some tweets about the 31 & 33 with their next years #1 too

that i would like,But my bet is we trade him somewhere else. We could be trying to force teams out of the weeds by putting this out there. Thats what is most likley going on,Its still real early in this whole thing
