You (hobbes) treat coaching as if these OC were playing Madden and sucked at playing the game. Even through so called bad coaching if Sanchez was worth a damn he'd overcome it and play well. It's not all on the coaching. You used an example about students and teachers, and sometimes there are students that just don't have the ability to grasp what they are being taught no matter how hard they study. Maybe Sanchez is one of those students that study study study but come test time they draw a blank and forget everything they were taught/studied.
I've learned my lesson in blaming the OC. Sure a good OC can make a guy look better but if you truly have a talented QB he will succeed regardless.
Having an opinion is fine. You however constantly belittle, talk down to, and outright name-call those who have opinions different from yours. That is insulting. I don't know what the fuck NAPA means but calling someone a tool is certainly insulting. Thanks for proving my point.
The funny thing is that some days he will wake up and forget his track record and say things such as "throwing around insults means you lack an argument" and it just leaves your head spinning.
Its just comical... Personally, I don't care what language people want to use. The problem is that the people getting insulted are not free to use the same language as those doing the insulting. For example, normally I'd just insult Hobbes back for calling me a tool but I was previously banned for a month without warning for calling someone an idiot. So I'll be content in pointing out his (and this boards) hypocrisy. Its for the best anyway, debate without insult takes more intelligence.
Ducasse did play much better, but it doesn't really matter because he did not start and because the pass blocking scheme was putrid. It was disgusting to try and watch.
How many times did Sanchez out drop the protection? He was a one look quarterback, and when he did throw, typically was short, high, behind, or to far out in front. What Smith does is make a good pre-snap read, and deliver the ball quickly? If it isn't there, he doesn't force the ball. Definition of a game manager, and that is what our offense needed last year. Of course, an elite QB would be great, but our team doesn't need one to make the playoffs.
Yep. Doesn't really matter that Sparano sucked, when we can isolate the variable (Mark Sanchez) in order to look at him specifically. Perfect example was the goal line interception against Seattle. Play call was perfect. Play design was perfect. We had 2 receivers wide open on that play, Hill crossing the back of the end zone and Keller out in the flat. WE all sat and watched as Sanchez screwed that one up and got picked off. You can't blame Sparano for that one at all. As I said, the call was good, the design was good, hell, even the protection was good. The only thing that was bad on that play was Sanchez.
Law of large numbers, interaction, on and on - just because you found one play where everything was rigt except for #6, does not prove anything. When you have an agenda, or an outcome you are favoring, you are likely to find something. In other words, you are telling us you have located one play where everything worked except for Sanchez - but you failed to provide us with the number of times everything worked including Sanchez. One play doesn't mean much. Even the best make mistakes that cost their team.
And there in lies the problem with Sanchez. Not only did Sparano prove not to be a good coordinator Sanchez was working with the least talented offense in the league. That is why the Jury is still out on Sanchez most people would lose their confidence playing with that talent. When every pass has to be perfect it makes it hard the QB. I listened to people bitch about a Sanchez passes that bounced off the receivers hands because it the ball was a little hi or a little low. No QB can make the perfect throw all the time. Good receivers catch not so perfect balls. Sanchez is accurate enough Sanchez has enough arm strength. Sanchez biggest weakness is ball security. He seems to fumble every time he is sacked. When things got bad he tried to force the issue and threw some ill advised balls. I can live with that Mark was just asked to do to much with the receivers he had and when they were not getting open he tried to force. All Marks INT where not just trying to force it he threw some bad balls also but so does every QB. I just love the revisionist history or the distorted arguments. If we had another QB we would have won 10 games and that is just not the case. First Miami game Mark won it or do we forget First Pats game we are not in that game without Mark. Houston Game again we are not in it without Mark. (The the throw was there to be made at the end of the game though) Titans game and Arizona game Mark just played bad. We won the AZ game and I blame Sparano for the Titans game you do not pull a hot QB especially a streaky player like Mark. Mark first and foremost needs to fix his fumbling problem or he cannot be a starter in this league. He is still a young QB that has shown flashes of greatness he gets another chance to take the step with a proven coordinator that has had top 10 offenses. The harshness of the bashing of Sanchez is just not very logical. There is no praise for Sanchez either. He gets a chance to play with a revamped O next season lets see what he can do. For the great QBs make players better argument is only true to a certain extent. How great was Ocho with Brady how about Brandon llyod? How was Reggie Wayne without Manning still pretty good. Crappy receivers make QBs look bad more than good Qbs make bad receivers look good.
You forgot how in the first Pats game, Mark fumbled the ball in overtime to lose the game. How about in the Houston game where Cromartie had an easy ass touchdown, except Sanchez overthrew the ball. Don't forget the red zone interception that gave them three points (especially since we lost by six). As for the Titans game, whether or not you should be taken out, you definitely should not be throwing four interceptions. Mark has had more than enough chances. Honestly, is he even on the team if we didn't have to pay him guaranteed money...?
Yes, we have such short term memory as fans. Mark threw a bunch of TDs in 2011 and has only one losing season as a starting QB. He is a very young QB it takes a while to learn the position most Qbs don't come out of the gate ready to play in the NFL. Kap and RG3 hide their flaws with their legs. You do understand Mark had the least talented offense in the league to work with right? No, he has to overcome bad play calling bad routes and zero time to throw? Mccelroy was sacked eleven times behind that line and bad receivers. Not one QB in the NFL looks good with the Jets offense last season . Some would look better than Sanchez but none would look good.
I am willing to admit that Sanchez had little talent around him there's no denting that. BUT good players / qbs are supposed to help make guys around them better . We did not see any of that with Sanchez in fact I saw guys make plays to make Sanchez look better,,,ex is Kerley made a few ridiculous catches on balls that were off the mark and should not have neen caught. So I am willing to admit that mark was limited with the talent around him but I am also willing to say that Sanchez has showed little the past 2 years and quite possibly we won in spite of him during those runs his first 2 seasons
I've been consistent with my feelings on MS since he came into this league. The kid had a season as a starter in college, came to the pros and was thrust into starting in the NFL and being looked at as the saviour of a franchise starving for success. He was part of a 2 year run that ended miutes from a SB both years. Since that time his talent pool has been drained considerably and his offensive line has been less then stellar. I'm not m,aking any excuses for his play, but the facts are the facts. I'm not ready to throw in the towel on this kid. He needs legit competetion, and a competent coaching staff.
Sanchez has only one losing season? You're saying he gets full credit for winning even though Jets had a top defense & offensive line. Yet this last season the losing is not his fault because he didn't have enough support? You can't credit him for the winning & then pass the blame of losing onto somebody else.
The QB gets to much credit for winning and to much blame for losing. The modern NFL is really not that hard to figure out. You stay healthy you have a good chance of winning have key injuries you struggle. The Jets got killed by the Injury bug Holmes, Sanchez, Keller Mcknight Kerly I think every receiver on the roster was hurt at some point. You cannot look good at QB with injured second tier receivers. With that being said you cannot hide your QB and Sanchez went 9-7 with more talent on O went 11-5 beating Manning and Brady in the playoffs. Did he do it by no Holmes was Clutch Edwards was clutch and we had a solid running game. To say the Jets problem are all QB is very short sighted.
Sanchez has shown that he can make throws that very few can in the NFL. He also can be very inconsistent. (this is the problem with Mark) I think A good back-up over the last couple of years would have helped Mark to sit a couple games. Here is why I think MM will be good for Mark. Mark is a streak or Rhythm passer. When he gets hot and in Rhythm he can make throws that not many QBs can make. The WCO is about getting the QB into a Rhythm I think he will thrive. I will admit Sanchez's clock is ticking in NY. HE needs to show progress and quickly. MM should help install confidence as well as some healthy weapons.
Are we all together on this? Hopefully we can all agree that Sanchez as a minimum has run out of excuses entering 2013. No more the OL sucks, the WR core was depleted, the OC sucked, on and on. It's fair to say that much of that happened, but it's also accurate to point out that Sanchez play was horrendous in 2012. He will be given a chance ( so appears) to regain ownership of the offense, but hopefully on a short leash. He either gets his act together quickly, or we write him off, and we posture the future drafts/trades accordingly. Making excuses for Mark is officially over. The real question still remains in most of our minds. Does he have what it takes to be a difference maker and lead this team, or is he just a game manager, or purely dragging the team down? Many fear the worst, most think he will not improve appreciably but will be somewhat serviceable. If they are right, keeping him one more year is purely a financial decision in hope of a miracle, but the plan for the real NYJ QB of the future should already be in the works. We deserve a winner that makes people around him better, not the other way around.
