6 mil isnt a bad price for a guy like landry, i dont know if the jets have the room to keep him though. depends on how they view the state of the team. if they think they can compete, they might try to keep him on. if not, i think theyll most likely let the younger guys get some experience with a cheaper veteran.
Probably not happening. Landry is an excellent player but the Jets have real cap issues and there is still always going to be concern about the achilles tendon issues. I wouldn't want to give Landry $15-20 million guaranteed at this point, which is what it will take to lock him up. He might wind up back in Washington again.
Peace bro. His injury history makes me nervous, if they could negotiate a signing bonus to off-set the 6M / year then it's worth a try. I always thought of him as a one year thing anyway.
I think we can sign him a 5 year deal with a low 2013 salary as someone mentioned offer a good sized signing bonus predicting our cap will be light years in 2014
That would just be continuing Tannenbaum's usual strategy, though, wouldn't it? And look where that has gotten us. I would pay the man but there would need to be some form of insurance for the Jets in case of injury. This, of course, would require us to trade either Cro or Revis...I think having Landry is crucial for our defense next year, more so than the combo of Revis and Cromartie.
Only if by "lock him up" you mean in jail! We can't afford that and I don't think he is worth it.....
I agree that it is crucial and we need him but I think after cuts we might be able to toss him what he wants... but that means we can't sign luxerys back like Devito or Pouha
Just to add some context to that figure ... http://www.overthecap.com/top-player-salaries.php?Position=S I'd love for the Jets to figure out a way to keep him, but I don't know if they can take that risk on an injury prone player when they're cap purging.
