What is Sione worth? I think maybe a 3rd or 4th but am not sure what people would give up for him. We save close to 4 mil if we get rid of him and I think cutting him is worthless because he is still a very solid player. I also think that Kenrick Ellis is ready for the starting role.

    So what is Sione worth?

probably not much w/ a new contract on the other side of 30, he'd be a valuable FA if we cut him though.

maybe a 5th or 6th to a team transitioning to the 3-4 like New Orleans and Indianapolis

Lets just trade the whole team...lol

We can play 22 draft picks.

According to Madden that would result in the largest net increase in player rating over one year.

Pouha might net a late round pick if the Jets shopped him. His salary is going to be an issue though. $4.9M is a lot for a NT who is not on the field for three downs.

I think the benefit of trading him and what we would get in return is not greater than keeping him at this point.

There are rarely NT on the field for 3 downs, Pouha's value is big in January however when plugging those holes comes in handy

    New Orleans seems ideal

Pouha is a primary candidate for a cap cut this season. Anything the Jets get for him before they have to do that is probably a bonus. He's going to get $4.9M in salary and count $6.167M against the cap. If the Jets cut him they pay him nothing and he counts only $3.83M on the cap. That's a cut that's too good to ignore given the situation the Jets are in.

If its at all possible, I'd tell him to take a paycut. Like its been mentioned, Pouha is more serviceable to us than a 7th rd pick.

The point is that a NT that has very little value in the pass defense just isn't worth that much. Pouha doesn't have a lot of value when they other team is throwing the ball around because he doesn't provide inside pressure.

Three downs is kind of synonymous with being good against both the run and the pass. NFL teams pass a lot on first down these days.

I understood your point, I was saying he wouldn't be of much value during the regular season but in the playoffs where teams run more he'd be of great value

Absolutely no trade value. Back injury and over 30.

I agree, and can be borderline dominant when healthy. Ellis showed me nothing last year; lacked leverage and strength...

also, he seems to be a great team mate and to have very high character - its good to keep those guys around so long as they can contribute something on the field.

You need to have two nose tackles. Don't trade a player that knows your system and can contribute positively in a role for a 5th round pick you don't even know will be any good.

Do people actually think he is worth a 3rd or 4th round pick? LOL
