I think a better example is the Hail Mary against DEN. If that play isn't completed, the Ravens fall short of a SB again with Flacco. They would still pay him this offseaosn, but there would some doubt if Flacco could "put them over the top". But the play was made, Flacco and the Ravens continued to play some great ball, and the won the SB. And they didn't have to hide Flacco to win it, which I think BAL is very happy about, until contract negotiations start.
Yeahreally. How many teams would love it if they could call a 35 minute time out just as the other team is pounding them into nothing? Any CS worth half its pay would be able to come up with some measures and implement them to counter at least some of what was going on before then. Yeah, let's feel sorry for the Niners because they "fell short" at the end??? I don't see how anyone who saw the game could feel that way. I have been saying for years now that Flacco was all along much better than Sanchez. The Sanchez Fans have nothing left on this so called discussion. Moving along now...
This is the way I felt as well. It is a huge advantage to the team that is behind. On the other hand the team with the lead is forced to overthink things, tighten up, and lose momentum. I agree that if there was no blackout the Ravens keep the pedal to the metal.
And another thing! Heh, but seriously I didn't follow too much of the lead up to the SB, but one thing that is of relevance to the Revis situation is, if you think about it, In a year when the NFC won more in head to head than the AFC, when teams like Green Bay, Atlanta, even Seattle were being touted as possible winners, what actually happened is if not for that blackout the Niners would have gotten stomped by an AFC wild card team. Meanwhile before the game the Niners were favored. Think about that. In other words, it should be clear not only that the Niners were overrated, I don't see how they "just fell short" of a win in general. I don't know who they are losing in FA this off season, and it is true Kaepernick will likely be somewhat better (if no sophomore slump - not to digress but opposing DC's will have plenty of film to work with before facing him next season). But for all my appreciation for Revis, it is far from clear to me they were just Revis away from winning the big one. The game after the blackout was somewhat illusory. I wasn't impressed with either of SF's cb's. Revis could cover Smith, or he could cover Boldin. But he couldn't cover both, so maybe the Niners have more to do than some blockbuster trade with the Jets, which is not likely to happen anyway. The smart money at this point would not likely be laying even odds or better that the Niners are back in teh SB next year, in other words. And maybe the SF GM understands this, and if he's smart he does not see Revis as the only missing piece of the puzzle.
Flacco still would've killed it, just like he did the rest of the playoffs. Sanchez sucks, get over it.
