I still think this could be Tannenbaum playing his cards for a future GM spot - maybe even at the reque$t of Woody. It seems more likely that I was wrong about Woody being the one who wanted Tebow.

Maybe I'm misunderstanding but the way it's written (since we're taking this at face value) is that Mike T. and Rex hatched the idea about adding a running QB to the offense. It then says in Tanny's mind, acquiring Tebow made sense.

Nowhere does it say Tanny and Rex hatched a plan to get Tebow.

It says the idea came up in the airport over Ben and Jerry's. They'd already been discussing getting a running QB to replace Smith and then this idea came up in the airport.

I suppose you could argue that Tannenbaum stunned Rex with a bowl of ice cream and then popped the question through the sugary haze.

Quite possibly. It's semantics, but I just don't wanna read too much into it just like we're not reading too much into Tanny trying to play good soldier to his previous employer with hopes of getting another chance to GM another team.

Clearly Tannenbaum is taking the high road for a reason. If he wants to work in the NFL he will work for an owner who will not take the blame unless it's for Jones.

Notice his langauge. While taking responsability the word we is used an awful lot. We is used by Idzik an awful lot so far. We is not the same as I.

This theory that Tanny is taking the blame for a catastrophic fuck up so he can get a job in the future is fucking retarded. Beyond retarded. It wasnt Woody. End of story. Way too many people on here think they know everything. So much so, that even after the TRUTH comes out, they claim its a lie and that they know better. Fools.

I never bought the theory that Woody insisted on bringing in Tebow to make noise and sell PSLs and I always stated as such. It just never made any sense.

Oh to have last years 4th and 6th round picks back. Tanny just had no idea how precious draft picks are, he could of added a little depth with those picks to maybe safeguard his job.

Anyway all in the past, i wish him well.

    Two choices for Tanny:

    1. Blame owner for Tebow...Never get another NFL job

    OR

    2. Take full responsibility...Maybe get another NFL job...

    Easy decision for Tanny.

It's always been both Rex and Tanny that initially wanted Tebow. Then they brought in Woody and Sparano for final consultation. All of them agreed Tebow could help them win games. Not complicated. Everything else like PSL's and the buzz generated by signing Tebow was a distant second.

The fact that Rex thought Tebow was a good idea should have gotten him canned. Head coach should have foreseen the potential for epic disaster within the team, especially with Sanchez who they just gave a big contract to.

considering how badly the trade went and is viewed, Tanny has zero motivation to take the fall if he wants to ever get another GM job. doing so hurts him.

your attempt to dismiss what he said has zero merit or sense.

It's one thing to take responsibility because you were the GM and had final having say but it's a whole other ball game to volunteer that it was your idea. That's going above and beyond the pale. That's tossing a grenade in an diving over it when you were all alone in the woods.

LOL...I was reading all these posts and thinking the same thing. How does telling anyone that it was your idea to get Tebow, thought it was a good idea and didn't think it would be a circus more or less, help you get another GM job? I guess he's putting it out there that if you are an owner who want to make very dumb football decisions that will hurt your chances of winning and need a guy to take the fall, I'm your guy. That's quite the cover letter.

or 3, be vague, say it was a group decision and actually help himself possibly get another job. Your theory is nonsense

Because all the owners know the truth because most of them operate the same way.

Say what you want about Tanny but if he was so bad why did Woody after all the interviews hire a clone of Tanny?

Tanny was arguably the best Jets GM since Werblin. Best off seasons ever and two afc finals, not to mention before Favre got hurt we had arguably the best team in the NFL in 08.

    thats a perfect analogy.

" oooh, oooh, I made the dumbest move ever and completly sabotaged my QB and my lockerroom.......now give me another job"

Tanny is taking a fall. The guy built 3 SB competitive teams under 2 different coaches. They couldn't get those teams over the hump and the team went into decline. If Mangini or Rex got anyone of those teams to the finish line Tanny is considered the best GM in Jets history.

Every owner knows Woody is full of it and Mike is just good enough at taking the fall and building a team that lots of them are going to have him on their list for next in line.

Don't kid yourself about Tannenbaum the guy is well respected.

I didn't say anything about how good or bad Tanny was. Just commenting on how stupid the conspiracy theory of him lying so he can another GM job is. He could have simply said I take full responsibility as the GM as I gave the final go ahead and kept the Ben and Jerry's airport story to himself.
