Alex Smith for Cromartie straight up??? No way. I'd rather watch the best corner tandem in football and have Sanchez at quarterback and draft a qb next year (assuming Sanchez doesn't have an incredible turnaround year).

That's the kind of deal it'd have to be. Even then I'm not sure but Smith, Kendall Hunter, 2013 first rounder and maybe a 2014 3rd? I've drank much worse green kool-aid and convinced myself I enjoyed it.

Some of you people need to get a clue.

Firstly, I was only speculating trades and discussing with the ONLY players we have worth trading. No where did I say Revis for Smith straight up. That was Cromartie and Smith...and, let's take a look at Smith's career vs. Sanchez thus far:

    Smith

    2005 9 84	165	50.9 1	11	9	40.8

    2007 7	94	193	48.7 2	4	6	57.2
    2009 11	225	372	60.5 18	12	3	81.5
    2010 11	204	342	59.6 14	10	4	82.1
    2011 16	273	445	61.3 17	5	5	90.7
    2012 10	153	218	70.2 13	5	3	104.1

    Career 80	1,290	2,177	59.3 81	63	36	79.1
    Sanchez

SEASON	GP	CMP	ATT	CMP%	TD	INT	FUM	QBR	RAT
    2009 15	196	364	53.8 12	20	8	31.6	63
    2010 16	278	507	54.8 17	13	5	48	75.3
    2011 16	308	543	56.7 26	18	4	33.6	78.2

    Career 62	1,028	1,867	55.1 68	69	26	-	71.7

Now...all you IDIOTS who say Sanchez would win in a competion...yeah...go back and hit the crack pipe. You know what I see there...continued PROGRESS! While Sanchez has actually regressed Smith has had steady improvement. Take a look at the turnovers. I could waste my time and go back and find quotes from many of you haters of my idea that say "if Sanchez had one or two less turnovers we would have won such and such a game. Well, shit. Smith has fewer interceptions in 3 more years and Sanchez is ten fumbles away from tying Smith! In Sanchez's world that's ONE season!

Now, while you may agree Revis is a bit much to trade even if you consider adding in a 49'ers late 1st round pick it's not a far stretch for Cromartie. I think some of you need to start actually WATCHING the games and understand circumstance before you spout off at the foaming mouth.

I wouldn't propose something on this board to simply look like a fool. You give Smith a decent O.C. those first 5 years and not FIVE different ones and it probably looks better. Sanchez had the same guy for the first 3 and did nothing. One other point of note Smith is ONLY 28 years old to Sanchez's 26. Even if he played the same as this year...I'd take that for the next decade with Ryan's defense in place. Lastly...outside this year Smith has had a "pedestrian" receiving corps to throw to outside Vernon Davis...and other than the NFCCG Vernon Davis has been a non-factor for Kaepernick. The only constant has been Frank Gore. Yeah...Alex Smith SUCKS...and REALLY sucks compared to Sanchez...

To answer a few other posts...NO...if Smith doesn't go down he does not get sat on the bench. The guy was having a CAREER year and was top 3 in the league and on pace to break the single season completion percentage record or some such thing.

I really like Kaepernick and hopefully he goes on to a wonderful career...but no concussion and he's still riding the pine. He's one in a thousand...many more QB's have come off the bench to only "manage" a situation until the starter gets back. This guy just happened to explode. So it is what it is...but I'll tell you WHAT is...Smith is better than Sanchez and he's worth a look. And as I said above if his progress continues we have our QB for the next decade. Not 2 or 3 years. THEN you can draft a good guy to groom and not sit on shit QB play for the next 2 years.

Ever heard of the expression apples to apples? Comparing their first 4 years or first certain number of game would be a fairer comparison. You are obviously not a math major. The funniest part of this post is "Smith has fewer interceptions in 3 more years"...LOL. It's like saying Frank Gore has 4 more 1,000 yards season than Shady McCoy and completely neglecting the fact that the former was drafter 4 YEARS EARLIER than the latter.

Hey...you don't like it...lump it. That's how these things are compared. I don't write the rules. I forgot to mention Smith is in the league 8 years...he sat for the first one.

No, I'm comparing apples to apples here...it's QB's to QB's...I'm not comparing a QB to a RB. If you REALLY want to go down that technical road Sanchez, for the first 2 years had a DOMINATE defense with him...dominant enough to make it to the AFCCG two years in a row. Smith had SHIT around him for the first 4-5 years of his career...on both sides of the ball. Utter shit plain and simple. Like I said...know your subject!

That was our first game without Revis. It wasn't really that shocking. It took a little bit to gain our composure back on D after that.

Harbaugh put Smith in an MMA choke hold and wouldn't release him until he signed a press release asking for him to be released from his $10M guaranteed payday.

Im sorry Alex was loaded with talent, and Harbaugh had a clear effect on him. I see him struggling here.

That could be...I was just initiating debate on the topic. Some think I'm spreading gospel. I just wanted to have a well informed discussion.

Outside of Smith there is nothing out there in the way of QB's I'd waste my time on...suck another year under Sanchez and get a QB next year if this isn't the Jets cup of tea. Just an opinion.

Mediocre in the frame work of being a ball control QB. If the Jets are going back to being a top 5 defense and a ground and pound ball control offense then he's an ideal QB. But as a QB who can carry a team, in that sense, yes Mediocre.

Here's a novel idea, trade Tebow for Smith. The Jets may have to throw a 3rd or 4th round pick in to get it done but it would be a win win situation for both the Jets and the Gang Green. The Jets would get a WCO QB who has been improving, SF would get a backup that would compliment Kaepernick, and the gang green would be rid of us tebots. With a WCO Sanchez as backup NYJ would be in a better situation next year than they were this year. An added benefit would be that Rex can wait another year before modifying his tattoos. :)

Smith is not great. But he would not be a stopgap. If they brought him in we would be stuck with his talent level for 5 years. No thanks

Mezz, it's not a fair comparison.

Sanchez, actually improved under Schittenheimer, each year....coupled with the fact that even Westhoff said Sparano had zero clue how to run an offense, the jury remains out on Sanchez, because.....in truth....this is his first real OC.

I don't want Alex Smith or Mark Sanchez. We probably have to live with Sanchez for another year but I don't see how we bring in Smith for cheap for 1 year?

The goal is to win a SB. Smith with a SB ready team on both sides of the ball, at his absolute peak of performance based on knowledge of the system, NFL maturity and experience was essentially benched for a complete unknown on the roster who the HC thought brought more to the table.

Technically he wasn't exactly benched because he had to come out for a mild concussion, but you get the general picture. Harbaugh took a huge gamble because at the end of the day Smith didn't bring enough to the table.

If we are going to unload cap and rebuild we might as well do it right. Alex Smith is pure stop gap.

He didn't play great in the NFC Championship game but it wouldn't be fair to also not mention he was a couple muffed punts away from bringing San Fran to the Super Bowl last year. Granted you can say the same thing for Sanchez.

You just answered your own question. Stick with Mark and a cheap option at QB, then draft a QB you fall in love with in 2014, one that can make a difference. Mark and the majority of bad contracts come off the books.

Alex Smith was awful in the 2nd half of the NFCCG. Rewatch the game or even check the game log. Incomplete pass after incomplete pass, couple balls thrown into the dirt here and there
