the most impotant aspect for the jets.is to make the offensive line a top priority.we are stuck with sanchez for another year.slauson howard and moore will have to be replaced.looking at the available picks in the draft.there are some very good offensive tackles and guards to be had.teams like the steelers and the ravens.have a history of drafting offensive linemen early.lets go jets
i think there is a real possibility that next years line will look very similar to last years line. howard and one of moore/slauson will probably be back. ducasse is going to start and howard was not bad enough that you can guarantee a rookie will beat him out in camp. now if we add a dynamic rb that can keep defenses honest i think the o line play will be ok. edit: i am not against the drafting of an ol early in the draft. just saying there may not be a big change in personnel
We are certainly not stuck with starting Sanchez next year, even if he is on the roster. That said, i agree Oline needs to be a priority. Hopeful we draft 2 lineman in first 4 rounds. If we were to target Warmack, i would be fine with Moore at RG one more year and Howard/other draft pick competing for RT. Any way you carve it up tho, i think 2 draft picks need to be spent here.
There's multiple holes on this roster to fill but some of them are much easier to fill with later picks. OL players can be drafted in the 2nd round and still start for the Jets. Odds of getting LB that can consistently seal the edge or DL/LB providing consistent pass rush much smaller after first round.
I'd certainly be ok with OLB round 1. Its a huge hole for the team, and some interesting prospects for the position out there. Would still like 2 OLineman in first 4 rounds though.
Why does Howard have to be replaced???? Do your research Howard had been fine and improved every week minus a few hiccups and he should get better with another Camp under his belt. Ducasse will likely start next year which is make or break for him leaving 1 guard spot to be filled by a rookie/free agent
I want us to take an OLB first round and go for OL thereafter but I'd be fine if we decided to use our pick on Warmack. Considering this teams draft history I'm fine with anybody that's not a total bust.
Every single year Jet fans want the team to go OL....sheesh even in 2008 & 2009 when we had arguably the best OL in the NFL people were screaming for us to draft O-linemen Is it b/c they are typically safe picks? Is it b/c their profiles are built on reputation and their downsides are not as publicized as more popular positions? O-line is certainly important. But aren't any of you sick of us never having that great equalizer at the skill position? I mean at some point we HAVE to address that void within this franchise.
Without decent qb play, it's difficult to determine what our offensive needs truly are. I think this year we take the best available for needs due to loss in FA and not cut anyone that is serviceable and cheap. Howard is cheap, he stays. That leaves us with our biggest needs/losses on defense...again. Not really what I want, but I think that's the way it will play out. Unless we can pick up a couple early round picks with trade deals.
Well, the Jets could well have one of their better (that being a relative term) units at receiver this coming year, as discussed on that thread. TE seems to be a problem, and they could use an upgrade at RB. But I do think the OL will have to get two new starters, probably both guards, and that will require attention this off season.
It's not a bad idea to draft an offensive lineman every season. The reason is that even if you have 5 good starters it's going to be hard to keep that together for more than a few years at the outside. Some guys are going to get hurt. Some guys are going to decline due to age. Some guys are going to go free agent despite your best intentions to keep them around. So having a pipeline of developmental talent on the offensive line that you can draw on is a great asset for a team. It's hard to find 300 lb guys that can play well enough to be an asset. Having a couple on the roster that you took in the 4th to 7th rounds recently gives you a better chance of filling that slot that suddenly comes open. They know your system. The other guys on the line will be more confident that they can fill a gap than with anybody other than a solid free agent starter and those guys are expensive to sign even if they are available when you need them.
Nothing makes an offense overachieve like a quality offensive line. If we can't fix the QB position immediately, then offensive line is a great place to bolster the entire offense.
Playmaker in general... RB, WR, LB... QB If we really do lose Landry / Cro / Revis then that void will grow even wider.
More than likely Slausen and Vlad will start at the guard spots. Howard is fine as a RT, we just need to add depth in the event one of them were to get hurt.
I think we have a lot of OL and LB holes on the horizon. We also have obvious needs at QB and RB. I'm afraid our Safety position may look a whole lot worse soon as we start shedding players to get under the cap. I'm mortified that we're going to slip back into 2011 mode, watching WRs and TEs zip past some traffic cones we throw out there wearing SMITH jerseys. Are last years' picks going to step up with Landry and possibly Bell gone? If only we could get enough first round picks to get a QB, RT, LG, RG, RB, WR, OLBx2, ILB, and TE this year.....

Anybody with half a brain would scream for that. I did for some time. 2008: Faneca AND Woody aging - and Jets neglected the replacement 2009: Faneca offloaded - and Jets got lucky with Slauson 2011: Woody was forced to retire. WFH came along It is not about safe picks, Kurt. Jets had a need coming up along OL - just Tannenbaum (or whoever was responsible for trading up) obliviously ignored that fact. And the need is STILL not filled as we speak now. RT remains a problem, LG remains a problem and now Moore is getting up there in age too. So Jets should keep on ignoring this while expecting Sanchez to somehow magically transform himself? That's what we call insanity. Ok?
