Encouraging for Mangini because that's a great technique to make sure players know their assignments at the drop of a hat, which is how they'll need to do it in the game. I knew he quizzed them periodicially, but it's the choosing who gets to go next when you are wrong which is the genius bit about it. You may be publicly shamed, but you become the next arbiter of justice. Mangini gives them a way to call out each other and keep each other in line - which is obviously preferable to a coach calling you out and keeping you in line. Encouraging for Bryan Thomas because he needs to show us something. I always felt he was pretty sound last year, playing his assignments, not putting the rest of the defense in a bad position (ahem, John Abraham) and it suggests that maybe Thomas will be better suited to a role which requires more sound intelligence than freakish athletic ability. There was also something somewhere about Bobby Hamilton and Eric Mangini being best friends. Did anyone catch that?!?!
Listening to Bobby Hamilton last week, I'd say that he's probably our Joey Porter. In that, he'd probably be most likely to kiss coach.
Plus it keeps all the players sharp duing the team meetings since they never know when they may be called upon. I use to HATE teachers that would randomly call on a student to answer a question. They instinctively knew when I wasn't paying attention and would call on me. They knew they had me when I asked them to repeat the question!!! If I got it wrong I would choose vilmatic to be next....
Now explain how classroom work, hard work, the endless hours put in film study and drawing diagrams failed to make the Patriots execute the program. Mangini is either an awful game day coach or someone who can't motivate players. Pats under Mangini were the 26th ranked defense, 31st in pass defense, 31st in defensive takeaways, and the 5th most penalized defensive unit in the NFL... Worse Patriot defensive performance since before Parcells arrived and he called every play. Explain it... you can't.
Blah, blah, blah, the broken record is back again. We've explained it fifty times and you never come back to refute. I believe the ignore list is where you belong....
when I first read about Mangini's tactic of stopping players in the hallways and asking them situational questions - I immediately called LV Coach to tell him: "We finally have a real coach!" I love this! Smart, tough players...
