Putting real thought in this rather than slamming. LOL!! Just stumbled on to a former member of this site at another Jets forum. Trying to start a "Don't blackball Tebow" movement. I think I have a better idea that can improve his game, and even work around the dyslexia problem he has, which requires more hands on learning he's just not going to get in the film room. Might in part explain why coaches don't seem to be working with him much for the last 3 years, just a guess. Before I do however, I gotta ask: Is he really being blackballed? I mean, the Jets don't want him, the Broncos don't want him, the Jags have said they didn't want him. Teams aren't exactly beating his door down, but I only know of 3 out of the 32 teams that absolutely won't be making a play for him. That is assuming the Jets part ways with him, though there are some that believe he will remain with the jets. But is there really a conspiracy to keep Tebow out of the league or to keep him from playing? It is that kind of hyperbole that teams are looking to avoid. Nonsense like this. he's not starting QB or playing everywhere else because he doesn't have the skillset for it. Or at least, they aren't developed to NFL standards. That is the perception and as long as that exists, he's not going to have much of a career if he stays at QB. The league isn't going to change for Tebow, Tebow is going to have to change. START THERE. Fix THAT problem, and your golden boy might actually see more playing time in his future. Running around the internet screaming that he's being blackballed is NOT doing him any favors. you guys wanna take a more proactive approach? I'm gonna offer something more constructive than running around the internet sites whining that poor Tebow just can't get a shot and people are plotting to keep him off the field. (Cuz I'm THAT bored.) You want him back in the league? Here's how: You must convince Tebow to change. Step 1: Get him out of the spotlight. Stick him out in the middle of Zimbabwe or something, but FFS, get him away from the media. Obviously they haven't abandoned the story because his workout in Arizona is still front page of the news. It is a distraction for the team, it is a distraction for Tim Tebow. NO good has ever come from it when it comes to his career, (other than getting him signed for marketing purposes) and his platform can wait. Anyway his platform would do much better with a longer career in the NFL, if he indeed needs the NFL for it anymore, wouldn't you agree Tebow fans? Let him develop out of the public eye just like damn near any other young prospect. No pressure from fans and media to start, no billboards, and nobody up in the coach's grill telling them they better start him. Step 2: Make him a better practice player. I know it doesn't make sense for some, but what coaches see in practice, believe it or not, has an impact on who gets the nod on Sunday. I truly believe it was a factor in why he was passed over for McElroy. I believe this is why he couldn't beat out Orton until he played himself out of a job. Other GMs know the knocks on him, I'm betting it comes into play with their decision making. Spend more than a couple of weeks with a QB guru. He has a buttload of money, but his NFL money is about to run out if he can't get re-signed. There are plenty of former players and those that didn't quite make the NFL that can either volunteer, or collect some cash for helping. There won't be any CBA rules limiting the time he spends practicing in an organized fashion, he can do whatever he wants with him at the focal point. This will also IMO work around his dyslexia issue as well since he's more of a hands on kind of learner rather than a film study kind of guy. Some call it a learning disability. It is only defined as such, because it is out of the norm. He just needs a different method. I think this is why a lot of coaches have given up on him. Step 3. Showcase the improvment. In about a year of this intensive bootcamp with him getting all that time with faster paced practices, and different looks from those experienced at doing it in the NFL (like hiring an unemployed ex NFL coach,) Start auditioning tapes and get invites for a look. Go to the CFL for awhile if he can and get some game tape. NFL scouts will notice. Step 4. Get invited to a training camp somewhere and kick someone's ass in training camp. Wouldn't THAT be sweet. come back to the NFL and actually get the job other than by default or injury. This is just one way that I think would work. Here's the catch though, Tebow fans. You're gonna have to convince he and some of his handlers to do something like this. The league ain't gonna change for him. They're not gonna see the light because you show them some cherry picked stat sheet. It ain't gonna happen by arguing on the internet. As stated many times even in this forum. BOTH sides are actually right and wrong on most of the debate. Like I said, convincing Tebow to change is your ONLY real recourse. You're not gonna change the NFL establishment to see your way. Arguing on the internet does nothing. You only have to convince one person. Surely a group of pro-tebow supporters can get his attention. Think he'll change for all of you? Sure beats running around whining that he's being "blackballed" and begging for a team to give him a shot.
In other words, "Stay out of the spotlight, get better as a passer and learn how to read defenses." Seriously, though, I pretty much agree with the above, except, "his workout in Arizona is still front page of the news." It was on TMZ for Pete's sake. Hopefully the media is getting Tebow fatigued. I said last year, his best move would be to go to an established team with an unquestioned starting QB. I thought the Steelers would've been great, if they'd shown any interest.
They won't get Tebow fatigue anymore than they get Kardashian fatigue. Tebow likes the limelight. A trait that has been shared by any number of people, including many NFL players. Why I've heard stories about a qb that once wore panty hose in a commercial... It is a character trait, nothing more nothing less. But in this case Tebow has that elusive quality that makes people interested in him. As for getting him "back in the league as a starter," I think he needs to go to a team that is willing to commit to an offense like Washington, San Francisco and to a lesser extent Seattle have run this year. Look I have nothing against Tebow's religious beliefs or lifestyle. Nothing for it either, it is a non-issue to me. To his credit he actually seems to believe what he professes, which is a rare trait in this age. He also tries to do good as he sees it off the field, another rare trait. What fascinated me about Tebow was a chance to bring a different kind of offense to the NFL. Right now it seems to me it is stagnant. Most teams run some form of Gibb's old Washington offense (I've seen it called different things), less run the West Coast now. Some run an NFL'ized version of the Air Raid. It looks to me now though, that the genie was let out of the bag by RGIII, Kaepernick, and Russell Wilson. It could have been Tebow. Last year some of the things that Denver was able to do on offense kind of paved the way, but those three rookies are the ones that have really planted the seed. I think we are going to see more teams use elements of this. The draft is going to be interesting to me. Colin Klein is a player I'm really interested in, as far as where he goes. In a lot of ways he is very similar to Tebow, warts and all. If I ran an NFL team, I'd snap up Tebow. I'd also take Klein. I would plan on playing multiple quarterbacks throughout the season, and during the game. My thinking is with the spread I can find more qb's who can run and make the throws I need them too. I also think this offense can fare better than the "conventional" NFL offense. I don't think there is a magic bullet to stop it, the core of the whole thing to me is that the quarterback is always a running threat, and the defense has to play 11 on 11. No gimmicks, no double coverage, and the offense knows where the ball is going. I know the NFL is different, with better players. But Johnny Manziel did well against Alabama, and a defense that has a number of future pros on it. This has been going on for years, and the colleges haven't found a sure fire way to stuff it. Nothing like the Orange Bowl with Miami and Oklahoma has happened to put a blueprint in everyone's mind. I tend to think it is because there isn't one. My contention is that I can find lots of quarterbacks to play this offense at the NFL level. You can't find many like Andrew Luck, but guys that can run the spread well come out every year. If a quarterback has a lifespan like an NFL running back, well that is just what the position turned into. Go cry on a fullback's shoulder. I do think Tebow could become a drop back passer. Joe Kapp did it, with a lot fewer physical tools than Tebow. But that is not using him the best way you could use him.
Yes, but would you trust the level of commitment Pittsburgh or New England would make to "groom" him to be their successor? Or would they simply use him as more of a wildcat package player? Because Roethlisberger ain't going anywhere anytime soon. tebow himself will be in his low 30s by the time that happens. Brady could play 3, 4, 5, years and Tebow will be pretty much over 30. By that point, I'm betting Belichek will have someone else in mind. Besides, McDaniels would be coaching him again, and we already saw him use tebow as more of a package player and did little else for him once already. you trust it to be different this time around? I wouldn't. So while it sounds nice to be in a situation where there is no demand for him to be out there, and it gives him an NFL home.... is it really best for his development? Not if you're hoping they're put in the extra time and effort and work around his special needs to hopefully turn him into something you all envision. These guys didn't win a bunch of championships because they devoted an excessive amount of time on one player, especially a backup. I think you are kidding yourselves if you think he's not going to get sucked back into being a gimmick wild-cat player if going to those teams. About the only element missing on those teams would be the demand to put Tebow in in the belief that Tebow is somehow better than the starter. But that alone won't save him. I truly think a year break from the NFL and getting into a training regiment geared for HIM would do far more good for him than sitting behind the bench as a side show for Brady. Pats aren't gonna make him into Brady's successor, are you kidding me? He'll be part time RB again, I'd bet ANY amount.
Well, that's the trick then, isn't it? You gotta convince Tebow to give that up for awhile. Might be easier said than done. But do you have a better idea? You know a better way to convince the NFL establishment other than to try to force or beg Tebow's way in at starter? We all know it is possible to improve. But what is the best WAY to accomplish it? Only way you guys are gonna get it to happen. Either: #1. A bunch of you try to convince the NFL establishment that they are wrong, and should go all in with Tebow, turn him loose, and he'll just win you games. #2. Get legions of fans all across the country to boycott games, sinche hitting them in the pocket book is all that will FORCE a GM to notice. #3. Convince Tebow... one man is all that is needed, to put him in a situation where he CAN get all the reps he needs, all the HANDS ON work he needs to improve, give it a year. #4. Piss and moan all over Jets forums and who knows where else on the internet that he's being "blackballed," making more and more people think the hyperbole surrounding Tebow is getting crazier and crazier. Yeah, looking like a batshit crazy loon is the PERFECT way to get people to give Tebow a shot. As difficult as option #3 sounds, it is far far far far easier to accomplish that than 1 and 2. #4, all the screaming hasn't worked for 3 years. Made it worse and people are saying, if anything, it is killing his career. Just sayin'. You wanna take a proactive approach? Get in touch with Tebow. Or sit back and whine while his career sinks. The current method seems to be sinking him, not helping. Tebow fan should figure that out sooner or later.... right? Probably not. Probably sit back and blame everyone else as they have for 3 years. That ought to do it
Sure thing sport... I'll get right on that On a side note, I don't totally disagree with everything your saying.... which is saying something
No, I didn't see them grooming him as successor. Here's the scenario I envisioned in Pitt: Tebow gets picked up as the second or third string QB and also short yardage/redzone specialist. He gets a chance to develop himself and contribute to the team. Roethlesberger rarely completes an entire season. I figured that would give Tebow time to develop, perhaps get a shot at starting one or two games and show he can play the position and hopefully sign with another team. Looking at what happened in Pitt this year, he would have gotten his chance.
Well, if you guys are looking to take a more proactive approach that might actually accomplish something, then what do you suggest? Cuz from the look of one of your fellow Tebow supporters who now posts on another Jets board, he seems to think kicking and screaming about blackballing is accomplishing something. Another thread on another Jets forum talking about Tebow getting a raw deal? there are tens of thousands of fans and journalists doing things like that. that ain't changing anything.
I'm not going to disagree with you. But I am going to point out once again that you're a bronco fan.... who doesn't care for Tebow. Yet your jumping around multiple messages boards searching out Tebow fans. You're weird... but I mean that in the nicest way possible
Is he willing to do all that? Everyone's talking like Tebow had zero part in his own situation, but things don't haappen in a vacuum. With a media that reports everything he does, I haven't read one word of Tebow going to the QB coaching staff and asking for extra practice work. Asking what he needs to do to become a bona fide NFL QB candidate. Asking how to improve his game. Throwing after practice. If there have been articles, I apoligize for missing them, but I'm pretty sure it would've been brought up if it happened. Is it a possiblility that the same stubborness, faith in his own ability, or whatever you want to call it, that leads him to refuse to admit he might not be NFL QB material might also be preventing him from asking for help to reach his goal? We got a picture of him running...well, we know he can work out, we know he can run, no coach seems to know that he can play QB...I think that if he were serious, we would see pictures of him working out by passing the ball 100 times a day, not jogging... JMO, but he might be his own worst enemy in his quest for NFL stardom - or at least a starting job...
Couple things there. He was in fact always reported to be one of the first ones at practice and one of the last to leave. But there is a difference between working hard and working smart. But there is also merit in him thinking that maybe he isn't having the problems others are pointing out. His whole life, he had proved doubters wrong, and did pretty well at all levels... until he hit the NFL. Why WOULDN'T he have an inflated view of his abilities? It had been a pretty charmed life for him up until that point. Reality has got to be setting in though at some point. Be a hell of a story if he pulls it off though after going through all that. Now THAT is something to write momoirs about. Not when you had pretty much everything go your way throughout your football life even when people said it wouldn't. because eventually , you meet your match.
Seriously, what are the chances Tebow makes it to San Diego with his old OC? If anyone knows how to use the guy, Mckoy would right?
I'd say between 0 and 0.0001% Not with Rivers there. I also don't think McCoy was that fond of Tebow, though I concede that's entirely speculation on my part with no hard evidence to back it up. I'd be thrilled to be wrong though!
I think if it were to happen he would be successful with their current roster offensively. I like the idea of Tebow playing QB, just not for my beloved Jets
You know, this is a well though out post and makes sense. I even think he can avoid the leaving the NFL portion if he can convince a GM he will sit on the bench as a backup. He would have to be put on a team with an established QB already, like GB for instance, and just practice. Out of the limelight, work on his game, get better, and get insight from the successful QB. He would get a Matt Flynn, Schaubb, Kolb type chance to show what he's got after a year or two of this. He's a physical freak and that helps to his nature. A good person to model his game off of is Big Ben I feel like. Hard to bring down in the pocket, destroys your defensive psych by extending plays and finding some open, always can take off and run easily too if needed.
I cosign also...........! As much as I have ragged on Teblow & his apparent lack of qb skillz, I do have some empathy for how poorly dude was utilized by my Jets. He at LEAST deserves the chance to prove he's either capable or is a 1-hit wonder. Teblow should go all ballz-out during the off-season doing whatever is necessary to improve his qb skill-set. Hire & work out with..... Marino for arm-strength & accuracy; Montana for strategy & perf'ing under pressure; Manning(E) for completing deep, ridiculous passes to blanketed rec'vrs in SB games & lastly Mark(u-kno-who)...on what makes a qb suck!! Good luck Teblow.
Fightin'Jet he has plenty of arm strength to be an NFL qb believe it or not. Where he needs to improve at IMHO is accuracy and "reading" an NFL defense if he is going to a system that requires such. If he goes to a system that runs the pistol formation 34 times a game like the 49ers, he would've been fine this year. Look, this dude is going to put the time in to get as good as his potential will allow him to be. All it takes is for one GM and coaching staff to give him the tools needed to succeed after he shows he is capable. I believe it is going to happen because I believe in destiny but you can call me a Jesus lover all you want to and I'm fine with that.
