I don't believe Revis' value is at it's lowest. Age determines value. This is a young man's game. Value drops every single year that a player is in the league once he gets into his late 20s.

Huh, I was responding to not restructuring deals.

If it were possible, I would restructure Holmes and Cro. Like them or not, they are both competent at there positions.

Gotta admit I laughed when Brad said Cro is fragile. Heh. Brad sometimes tends to overtstate his case.

In everyday business you would be correct. You don't sell or in this case trade an asset that is "broken" or valued less. However, in this situation, if we are able to trade Revis, we are able to use the money for upgrades, and draft picks to build with. In all likelyhood, we get better by moving away from our most valued asset.

Appreciate the point of view on selling when the value is lowest, but it's not. Lowest value is mid season before the deadline where it's a few games rental or letting him walk at the end of 2013 for, in essence, a 4th round pick.
In my viewpoint you either sign him long term this off season or trade him. Losing him for what all intrinsic purposes is a 4th round pick is "selling" at it's lowest value.

Sounds like u really need it.

Ferguson converts $5mil of his $7+m base in to roster bonus. His cap hit for 2013 gets reduced by $4m. His dead money if released in 2014 goes from 7.8m to 8.8 mil. 2015 dead money goes up from $5.1m to $6.1m.

And the $-7.5mil bs u talk about is for the year 2013. Why the hell would we worry about what B'ricks cap hit would be if released in 2013? We can release him 2014 with a net cap savings of $2.5 mil. If he restructures like I said, his net cap saving for 2014 goes down to $-1.5m.

Same with Mangold, but his restructure doesn't save much money so we might not even touch his contract. I can guarantee you we will restructure Harris' $13mil cap charge and push $3mil to 2014 (his cap charge for 2014 is just $7mil). Why would Harris agree to that? Because he's smart and would know that the Jets would save $2mil in 2014 if they decide to release him as opposed to saving $5 mil.

And another reason to restructure is, if the player is getting paid the same money regardless of contract language, why would he NOT wanna help his team? Why not?

We extended the misery by restructuring aging vets. Thats where the downfall for Tanny came. You only restructure a player you know you are going to keep and who will produce at a high level (Brick, Mangold, Harris, Cro).

You really have a hard time reading, don't you? I mentioned $35m in cap savings by cuts and another $14-15 in savings via restructures. To me, that brings $146 down to $96 and last time I checked, 126-96 gave us $30m of cap space. Yes, we would be pushing about $5 mil over to 2014 but Sanchez, Holmes and most likely Revis' contracts would be off the books by then. Sanchez and Holmes combine for $25mil, money that will give u the production of maybe $4mil at best.

Understand the game. Tanny's downfall was due to restructuring aging vets that were past their primes and very quickly declined. If u think Jets can fill in all roster spots with $15m of cap space and about 10 starters, then u are highly misinformed. Jets will restructure contracts and you'd be better off "drilling that to ur head"

If you were making the case for one guy, I'd understand. But TWO corners? No thank you.

I get ur point here, but there is never a time Id want this team to go 4-12 or worse. Never.

    YUP!!!!

Been "Here" for quite a while and, not sure if mentioned but, dealing with "Team Revis" every single year is a huge factor....

So what do you think is the "realistic" compensation if you choose to trade Revis? This is an all-time great, shutdown CB coming off major knee surgery with 1 year remaining on his contract and a history of holding out.

I agree completely with your point concerning age but value also drops with uncertainty and major knee injuries breed uncertainty. Put another way, we would have gotten more for him last offseason than we would this offseason, more so because of his relatively uncertain injured status than for his extra year of aging.

What determines value is the cost of performance. Revis at the top of his game doesn't provide great value anymore. He was a great value in his first 4years.

In order to get well compensated we need a team that's a CB away with enough cap space to make a deal that's good for both teams.

I would certainly trade Revis for 2 first rounders, and use next years 1st to trade up and finally get a QB.

However, no team would give up 2 first rounders for a guy coming off ACL surgery. maybe they would 2 years ago, but not now.

Trading him away solely to free up cap issues is not a good idea.
Has to be solid return in value, which could help us land a QB in 2014, as well as help us fill holes this year. I'm not seeing a scenario where trading Revis would work well for both teams.

On a side note, Cro value is at its highest. If we could trade him for a 1st, I'd definitely do it. I realize this is far fetched too.

Is it though..... for the right team on the cusp? better than hoping a draft pick works out....

If they financially can't keep the duo, I'm more for trading Cro than Revis right now, while good he's been more of an up and down player and has had a career year this season, making his value the highest it's ever been. We all know Revis is rock solid (with this injury being the only wildcard).

Of course feelers with both their agents need to be made to gauge their respective overall values.

Of course I'd also love to see the duo on the field w/ a good pass rusher and a solid complementing safety. It would be the "no fly zone" that Rex would love, esepcially with the development of their new young D-line. (Coples, Wilk, Ellis 2.0)

I think the decision on whether or not to trade Cro depends on whether or not the team decides to transition to being in full blown rebuilding mode. If the new FO plans to tear everything down then it would make sense to acquire as many draft picks as possible. But if the new FO thinks the Jets can be competitive with just a few fixes/upgrades, then it would probably make more sense to keep Cro.

TRADE THEM ALL.... My wish would have been to Blow it up - Fire them all trade them all - Strip it down - Get great cap room - Trade down - Stockpile picks for this and next year and then Suck for one of the great QB's coming out next year like IND did and then BAM - you have the potential to be a top team for the next decade starting in 2014

Jets won't do that though - they Keep Rex, hire a second tier GM, Give Revis a huge chunk of the entire Defensive $$$$, and win 6-8 games for the next decade.

The issue with not trading Cro is that he takes up approximately $7M in recoverable cap space for 2013. That's like gold for the Jets right now. After all the cuts they're sitting at $12M to $13M under the cap. They only have 10 or 11 starters under contract. They're going to need the cap space he represents. Now throw in the fact that they're clearly in rebuild mode at this point and Antonio Cromartie represents maybe 10 developmental players on the cap at this point. He also represents at least one good draft pick, maybe more.

I just don't see any scenario where the Jets can keep him and make things work. Even if they decide to go for it Cromartie represents 2 good players on the cap. The Jets could re-sign LaRon Landry and add a capable guard for the amount Cro takes up on the cap.

    He's got to go.

Releasing Cro will save the Jets $1.25mil. From what I see, most of his base is guaranteed in 2013 (part of the $14mil guarantee) Even if Jets had guaranteed his entire 2011 and 2012 base salary, that adds to $4.8 mil. He got a $5mil signing bonus. Thats $9.8m he has received in guarantees. He still has to recover another $4.2 mil as part of his guarantees and then Jets still have to account for his remaing $2.5m of signing bonus. Thats $6.7m that Jets will not be off the hook for out of 10.75m and thats assuming his entire base salary in 2011 and 12 were guaranteed. From what I see, trading him away would still be a far better scenario than trading Revis away (whom you won't get a ton based on his contract - FA in 2014). Cro is still in his prime and just had his best season as a pro.

I don't mind trading away Cro as long as we get equivalent value. I just don't see Revis being traded. Its just not possible this year, financially.

Trade cromartie . We are not getting an all star QB for revis. And every other team knows about next years crop of studs. We trade cro now get some help at LB or tackle or guard (chance womack = beast).

    1. womack
    2. best tackle on board
    3. best player
    3. what we get for cro?

You are 1000% right! Do like the colts did. Give sanchez another year. That alone will guarantee a top 5 pick alone! We just stockpile on meat and potato guys this draft and no skill players. Give the sanchez+holmes+edwards one more year. They are sure to get rex fired and dirty, holmes and braylon gone and a top 5 pick.
