It's not just about the one game . If you had actually read my post you would realize its about Peyton's super powered choke career in the post season. The anomaly being the Rex Grossman led Bears. About the last game though , while I will conceded Peyton did not lose it by himself in regulation ( although he contributed 14 points to the Ravens off of his turnovers, the pass to Decker was in a ridiculously close window AND late ) , he certainly did lose it in OT. Please tell me how Peyton's post season record has nothing to do with him, wait let me go grab the popcorn ......
Bill Barnwell having fun on twitter below. Also shows you how much narrative drives sports. I mentioned in another post, it's been a big topic in basketball writing I read, but you see it all across sports. Like the Knicks are considered a "top defensive" team even though they haven't played like it since the first 5 games. They also have a wrose defensive rating than last year but their defense is supposedly "improved" because it fits the narrative of the Knicks getting better. Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell Brady: 20 INT/22 gms. PM: 21/20. RT @speefmoney: About as many as he'd have if he turned it over 4 million times in the playoffs like PM. Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell TB: 7 D/ST TDs. PM: 4 D/ST TDs. RT @Danobert7: how many rings would tom brady have if he had a special teams that returned 2 kicks for TDs? Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell You know who lost a playoff game where his team had fumble & INT TDs? Tom Brady! Guess who he lost to: Peyton Manning! http://bit.ly/11sVCvB Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell I don't really care about Manning/Brady debate. But idea that Brady is eons better than Manning in playoffs is silly/defense-driven. Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell Correction on the INTs: Brady has 11 in 11 Rd 1/2 games and Manning has 14 in 15 Rd 1/2 games. Bill Barnwell @billbarnwell Like he did in 2007? Or 2009? RT @BrianByrdman: how many rings would Brady have if he turned the ball over 3 times at home in 1 playoff game Just reeniforces my arguments that we tend to overrate how much impact a QB has on wins, playoff wins, and SBs What's hilarious is that Junc says the defense lost the Jets/Denver game and lost the Jets/Steelers AFC championship game and this Dev/BAL games falls under defense lost category by his standards but since the QB is Peyton, it doesn't fit his narrative of Peyton being a choker. Just like last year the defense carried Brady against BAL, but that doesn't fit the narrative of Brady being clutch, so everyone pretends he played well and put his team in a position to win even though he had worse stats than Manning agaisnt BAL and his team won and Manning's team lost. You guys really have a hard time understand the whole concept of a "team" sport
Tebow fans been waiting for this moment all season, they couldn't say anything all season because the Broncos were playing well. Now they lose and they all come out in full force happy that the Bronocs lost, you guys are funny.
what about Peyton who was handed 14 pts? what about peyton who gave 7 of them back? what about Peyton who couldn't run out the clock? what about peyton who his coach didn't trust in a big spot late in the game? There is blame to go around but when Peyton is handed 14 pts at home the game should never even be close let alone losing it.
In the postseason you HAVE to throw the ball in tight windows. Decker should have caught the pass. The "fumble" was a tuck and should have been called correctly AFTER the replay. He gave the Broncos a 7 point lead until the Defense blew it with :30 seconds left. The OT INT was Favre-esque, but he put them in position to win the game in regulation. You can minimize his 2006 run all you want, but Manning will forever have something that Tebow never will. And that is a SB ring as a starting QB.
he was handed 14 points that the DEFENSE gave right back. The INT returned for 6 was Decker's fault as the pass was placed perfectly. The fumble was actually a tuck. At the end of regulation did he give them the lead? Did the defense blow it? Yes and Yes.
just to correct those tweets: Brady has 20 INts in 23 games manning 21 in 20 Brady has 20 INts in 833 attempts Manning has 20 INTs in 761 attempts Brady has never thrown an INT for a TD in postseason Manning has THREE times including throwing away the SB w/ one of them Brady never lost a playoff game when he had a return TD and an INT TD. he did lose one where Peyton threw an INT for a TD but the fumble return for a TD was by their offense. Our D allowed Tim tebow to go 95 yds to win the game, Peyton's D stunk but mark never got another shot after the Tebow drive. Peyton had THREE chances to set up for a FIELD GOAL to win the game. See the difference? It is an insult to Tom Brady to ever compare Peyton Manning to him, he is beneath Brady by a wide margin and this weekend illustrated that.
of course the INT for 6 was someone else's fault just like the SB one was Wayne's fault. The fumble may have been a tuck though he was losing up top whihc is different than the tuck rule but he got saved w/ an awful call from another fumble earlier so it worked out and I guess the INT in OT was the WRs fault too? It's becoming clearer and clearer Peyton is just the next Breet Favre. Great #s guy, can't play under January pressure.
You're kidding right? You cannot see the pass was a) catchable and b) bounced off Decker's hands. Of course it's Manning's fault :WTF?!: The fumble was a tuck. Did I say the INT in OT was the WR's fault? Did I even allude to that statement? Get real dude. Manning gave the Broncos the lead in which the defense blew.
Lol, you just told junc to get real? Remember to him reality is a narcissistic fantasy land where he has never been proven wrong. This is him being real. :breakdance:
The ball wasn't high and hard or anything w/ a defender pushing the receiver in the back, it was all the WRs fault. the fumble play was close but he got away w/ one earlier so it evened up. Peyton gave Den a lead after getting 14 pts as a gift and giving away 7- what is the point? did he not have the ball in his hands late to seal it? did he not have a chance w/ 2 TOs at the end of regulation? did he not get TWO possessions in OT?
it was a catchable pass correct? Decker let it bounce off his hands. If you can't catch a "non-perfect" pass, then maybe you shouldn't be playing in the NFL. The pass was catchable and Decker let the ball bounce off his hands. I don't remember the one he "got away with", and I don't trust your opinion on Manning matters. I'll review it later. Either way, the fumble was a tuck and should have been called correctly after reivew. Did the defense have a lead with less than a minute to go and blew it? Just because the offense didn't get the first down that would have sealed it doesn't mean the defense had to blow it.
Mull This Over For a Second TT took Denver farther in the POs then Peyton did. Think about that for a second
Obviously it wasn't all Manning. But he was definitely partially to blame. As for the Decker pass that was "dropped", Peyton was very late on the throw. I saw it open early and he waited and gave time for the defender to make a play. Sure there were other members of the Broncos who failed, but Peyton is supposed to be an all-time great, and spotted 14 pts from his kick returner, he failed yet again.
Murrell its so awesome you are still fixated on Tebow welcome to the club . Tebow will probably be out of the NFL soon. This thread is about his former team choking and Peyton specifically. Manning has led his teams to the playoffs an NFL-record 12 different times. His teams have been bounced without a win eight different times, also a record. They failed to earn a single victory in 1999, 2000, 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010 and 2012. ( info form coldghardfootballfacts.com) Here are Peyton playoff games through 2004, I don't have enough time to research and post the rest. . (info from cold hard football facts.com) Lets take a drive down Manning's postseason memory lane. But roll up the windows and lock the doors. It's an ugly neighborhood. 1999 – In Manning's second year in the league he led the Colts to a 13-3 record and an AFC East title while averaging 26.4 PPG in the regular season. In Indy's first playoff game the Colts hosted wildcard-game winner Tennessee. The Indy defense played well, surrendering just 19 points to a solid offense that averaged 24.5 points per game. But Manning, at home in the dome, put just 16 points on the board, the team's third lowest output of the season, while completing just 19 of 43 passes for 227 yards and zero touchdowns. Manning's 60.9 passer rating was his lowest of the entire season. Result: Manning chokes. Colts lose, 19-16. 2000 – The Colts went 10-6 behind Manning's 33 touchdown passes and an offense that averaged 26.8 PPG in the regular season. Indy went to Miami in the wildcard round and its defense played very well, intercepting Jay Fiedler three times and surrendering just 23 points in a game decided in overtime. But Manning struggled against the Dolphins and, in a game that lasted more than 70 minutes, was a non-factor. He completed barely 50 percent of his passes (17 for 32) for just 194 yards and a touchdown. The Colts generated 11 points off Fiedler's interceptions but put a total of just 17 on the board, 10 points fewer than their regular-season average. It was Indy's second lowest scoring output of the season. Result: Manning chokes. Colts lose, 23-17, in overtime. 2002 – The Colts went 10-6 and drew a gimme in the wildcard round: a 9-7 Jets team with a paper-thin defense that surrendered 336 points that year (Indy boasted the better D, surrendering 313 points). Manning played the single worst statistical game of his entire career (14 for 31, 137 yards, 0 TDs, 2 INTs and a career-low 31.2 passer rating) and failed to put a single point on the board. Result: Manning chokes. Colts lose, 41-0. 2003 – The Colts went 12-4 in the regular season and scored 27.9 PPG. Manning kept it going in Indy's first two playoff games and was spectacular leading 41-10 and 38-31 victories over Denver and Kansas City. But Manning, facing foul weather and a good defense, returned to his historic postseason form in the AFC title game against New England. Indy's D again played well under postseason pressure, stifling the Patriots in the red zone and forcing them to settle for five field goals. But Manning tossed four interceptions and posted the third lowest passer rating of his entire career (35.5). Result: Manning chokes. Colts lose, 24-14. 2004 – The Colts again went 12-4 in the regular season, this time scoring 522 points (32.6 PPG) and entering the playoffs a seemingly unstoppable offensive juggernaut with the fifth-highest scoring offense in NFL history. Manning, of course, set numerous regular season records. Most notably, he tossed 49 touchdown passes while shattering the single-season passer rating record, with a mark of 121.1. It all took a familiar turn for the worse in the playoffs. In a divisional game at New England, the Colts mustered just 3 points – their lowest offensive output since the 2002 playoff loss to the Jets. Once again, Manning played his very worst game of the season in the playoffs, completing 27 of 42 passes for 238 yards with 0 TDs and 1 INT and a passer rating of 69.3, his lowest of the year. Result: Manning chokes. Colts lose, 20-3. MORE TO FOLLOW
I saw Barnwell's tweets and they are kinda misleading since you can't just look at stats that way without looking at the context of them. Interception does not equal interception. Brady has played much better than Peyton in the playoffs and anyone who has watched the game over the years knows that. I can't speak for Junc but I think the reason it is different is because when you have Peyton Manning, that is who the team is built around thus he gets more glory with a win and more blame with a loss. The Jets are a team led by the Defense, so if the D has an uncharacteristically poor/choke type of game they are going to get more blame. You don't get to have the type of reputation that Peyton has when things are going great and then blame everyone else when they aren't.
He could have caught it but it was not an easy catch. You shouldn't trust YOUR opinion on Manning matters. Manning was sacked and fumbled and they threw a very questionable illegal use of hands call to rescue him. They would have had the ball around the Denver 40. they wound up getting at at their own 3 after den eventually punted.
All come out in force? There is 3 of us who posted and 2 of them only posted once or twice...LOL its mostly me, direct it at me. I am the bad guy. here is my bad guy speech. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E7GgDUz6SFg
I wonder if a thread like this was created last year when the Tebow-led Broncos got embarrassed by the Patriots in the Divisional round.
