I'm more upset about some of the pathetic responses in the thread that at the press conference. So now, some of the so called Jets fans are upset because they did not volunteer straight answers about who will be the QB, GM, OC etc.....really? You think they should in the absence of the final decisions and proper approvals? That would make them look like buffoons, but when you are bent on hating Rex and the owner any BS excuse will do to criticize them. Further calling the owner and HC idiots for not answering the questions shows the extreme ignorance of some of this fan base. I now more than ever support the OP of a previous thread....some of our fan base is worse that the very media that creates this shit. Agree that in general the Jets organization has been disappointing to the many true fans, and should strive to do better, but it is also becoming apparent they could use a better fan base that see things as they are and not looking for excuses to trash them.
Ok, so then why exactly is Rex staying, when we are amidst a complete coaching staff overhaul, including a new OC, DC, and many supporting assitant coaches? Why is the ONE remaining constant Rex? I am not saying it's a bad thing, because I like Rex AS A COACH and think he does a great job motivating and getting the best out of his players. However, it's clear to me after that PC that Woody really does not have a clue, and from my perception of the situation, it appears he relies on Rex WAY too much. E.g. mere presence at the PC. Rex overshadowed Woody far and away, and as the OWNER that should not be happening at the end-of-year press conference. I just think Woody has instilled entirely too much faith in Rex. It's almost like he looks up to him in a weird older brother/friend-who-can't-do-any-wrong type of relationship. He's a fan of Rex. That's a problem going forward.
Woody Johnson displayed leadership with his conviction concerning Rex. He didn't tip toe around the fact that he thinks Rex is the man. I understand that many will disagree vehemently with him, but it takes courage to stick to your convictions when the entire world is telling you that you're wrong.
The work is the work. If the Jets suck they could be perfect at the pressers and it wouldn't matter. If the Jets do well they have lots of latitide at the pressers and will not get bitten hard. It's a sound media strategy to play things close to the vest and predictable given that they cannot make things a lot better based on press conference performance but they clearly can make things a lot worse.
Is that leadership, or the unwillingness to take leadership? I am not an expert, but one could argue 95% of owners in the Jets situation clean house. Why keep Rex when overhauling the entire coaching staff and front office?
That's a whole differnet argument than Rex is running the GM the search. My point was that Rex is not running the GM search and really from all reports hasn't had much if any influence on them.
Yeah, but that's the GM again. Some of the Jets talent mismatches were a bit accidental. Trading up to get Santana Moss to play with Vinny when Vinny was tied to the Jets for at least two more seasons by cap repercussions and was the starter was at least matching strengths. Then Vinny loses it overnight at 38, surprise, surprise, and Chad and Moss are not really the same kind of fit. But giving Mark Sanchez three slot receivers and a sloth in 2011 was ridiculous.
There was nothing stopping Woody from canning Rex. He got rid of Mangini after a 9-7 season. Woody Johnson seems to legitimately feel that Rex is the guy who can get it done. He sees an evolution in Rex's mindset. Teams that have constant turnover suck. The Jets are having turnover right now however their keeping in place the center piece that Rex believes in. This is a reloading by both Woody and Rex. I feel a lot better about this team after the press conference.
I don't know, I think it's an accurate statement...unfortunately I think he meant dangerous to the mental health of Jet fans and TV screens in Jets households.
This...the franchise is inherently flawed because you have an owner who knows absolutely nothing about football or the day to day operation of a football team. You don't ever get the sense from Woody like he really loves this team or this sport, hence the Romney comment which he'll never live down and rightfully so. We can only hope that the new GM can thrive even under the most dysfunctional of circumstances.
And why would we trust Woody Johnson to be a good judge of evaluating Rex's coaching ability? He doesn't have the football acumen to make that kind of decision.
Woody's not evaluating X's and O's, he's evaluating a leader of men. Rex has proven he can coach. What he hasn't proven is that he can lead the team. Rex's answers lead me to believe he's making progress in that area. We need to actually see it happen, however it is completely reasonable to think that Rex is evolving into a more mature coach.
Woody is wrong. Jets don't have the best fans. They have the most delusional simple minded fans whose expectations are astronomical and take every word as if is the law. The amount a silly comments about the presser is typical over-reacting drama queens who expect the straight answers NO coach or owner would ever give at a presser a week after the season ended. But the idiots here will demand and clamor till they're blue in the face because they are just that simple. How do you people watch the news or read the paper. The team is going in a better direction, that's all that can be said. If you are so agitated about this PC, do yourself and other Jet fans a favor and jump in front of the 7 train.
Only the Shitty owners do. The good organizations stand by a head coach especially during a rebuilding phase. The Jets personnel warranted this team to be much worse than they were especially with the injuries. That is why Tanny is gone. Rex proved this year that he was a very good coach winning with the crap he had. It is funny the same people that said this team is 2-4 win team are the same ones calling for Rex's head and that was before all the injuries. Presser Woody has faith in Rex - Positive Sparano gone - Positive Want to be more Dynamic on offense- Positive Rex gets to hire his own coaching staff- Positive QB- will be looking for or drafting a QB-positive Have several good candidates for GM- Positive Where was the negative again?
This is the exact type of tight lip close the vest shit that BB says in Bawston. As much as I hate them, it's working for them. Maybe a few more PC's like this will help cute the circus problem.
Winning and winning alone will cure PR problems the Jets have. The press loves Tom Brady and he only left his pregnant wife to get with a hotter woman. It's simple, win and you can be an axe murdering, clown suit wearing terrorist and get away with it. The Jets aren't winning, so they're not getting away with their antics.
Sounds like the press conference was all fluff. Woody is clueless, and Rex will be here regardless of results. Woody is the new Leon Hess . Lost in space. We are the worst run orginazation in the NFL.
