it's me amazing that people are defending Philip Rivers, if Rivers played for us the way he has in SD he'd be being bashed and our great fasn would be looking for another QB.
I'd be wary of Rivers. He has played okay since the talent around him has been depleted, but he is over 30 and prone to turnovers recently. If SD was willing to do Sanchez for Rivers straight up, sure I would. If the cost is anywhere near the OAK cost for Palmer, I'll pass and tough it out a few years.
To the second one you quoted, the way I read it was it wasn't worth the resources to trade Sanchez and picks/players for Rivers since he isn't great anymore but I might have misread it.
Gotta love Jets fans, last year no one wanted to attempt a trade for Peyton or MJD, this year we're too good for Rivers and Romo (neither is happening anyway I understand that). Either Rivers or Romo could be our best QB in 30 years, and we're too good for them? If we landed Tony Romo I would dance a jig are you kidding me?
Everyone keeps refering to the Palmer deal like it's the benchmark for vet QB deals. The reason Oak gave up so much to get Palmer is first of all it was mid season and the Raiders looked really good at the time, good enough to make a playoff push till Campbell went down. The second factor was Cincinnati owner Mike Brown was pissed at Palmer for pulling his stunt and saying he would just retire if the Bengals didn't trade him. I'm sure he never imagined getting two 1st round picks for him! So there was a lot more going on than just a decent vet QB going to another team.
this isn't Madden, we can't wave a magic wand and get every player we want. There is a cap, there is a $17 mil cap hit if we release Sanchez. I deal in the real world. Peyton was too expensive to come here and too smart seeing the talent we had on O. Rivers or Romo would get killed here, thoe can't win w/ much better talent and you expect them to play under pressure here? Seriously? do they award more wins for 4,000 yd seasons? that 4,000 season in 1967 we missed the playoffs b/c Joe sucked down the stretch but he had 4,000 yards!
I'm not sure why so many people on here feel this entitlement, like we're too good to target an established player. It's beneath us somehow. If we don't aquire them through the draft people act like they are worthless. I made the case for many players like this in the past and was ridiculed Marshwn Lynch - That seemed to work out... Carlos Rogers - Didn't he make the probowl last year? Steve Smith(car) - Too old, he's washed up. Wait.. he went to the pro bowl too Peyton Manning - He'll never be the same, his arm's gone, he'll get hit once and be done. Yeeaaaaah, not so much.
AGAIN, we can't wave a magic wand every time we want a player. Marshawn Lynch was traded during the 2010 season when to that point LT was great and we had an up and coming Greene. We have Revis and Cromartie at corner or did you forget? Was Smith ever a FA? Peyton would have cost too much and he's not stupid, he wasn't coming to a team w/ Jeremy kerley as his 2nd best weapon. He hand picked a team that made the div rd w/ Tim tebow at QB. He's a choker in january but he's not stupid.
I believe the Jets certainly would have won more games if they had Rivers production instead of Sanchez production. The Jets probably would have hosted at least one of those AFCCG's and made the playoffs at least one of the last two years if they had a QB with Rivers production. And yes, I'm fully aware that the Jets went into SD and beat the Chargers in '09.
NC State fan here. I'd love to see Philip with the Jets and Norv as OC (what he should be). Philip needs a good pocket to move in and some Frisbee catching dogs and a good running game. Give him that and he's a winner! He'd also need a nice area for his family...I know he's enjoying San Diego but not so much the football "want to" ownership has shown. I'd love seeing him play for good ownership. I don't really keep up with who's who in Professional football but I know the Jets have great fans; ownership....I don't know but I question their moves. I knew long ago that the Jets didn't have a good QB...then you brought in Tebow? I also think the Jets need a new HEAD COACH too!
maybe more reg season games or maybe not as he's had boatloads of talent around him in a weaker division and still hasn't been able to win enough to get to postseason the last 3 years. A huge reason we beat SD in the '09 playoffs was b/c of how bad Rivers was that day. So you think we beat out NE for the div if we have Rivers? really? not a chance. Rivers would be run out of town w/in 2 years and Mark is a MUCH better postseason QB. Rivers was outplayed at home in the div rd by a rookie QB. do people forget how SD plays in a much weaker division and how they were SB favorites every year for about 3-4-5 years? have you guyss een Philip Rivers in big games? he's played a lot longer than Mark and on better teams yet has only 1 title game app and the reason SD made it was b/c Rivers got hurt and Billy Volek came in and led SD to the GW TD.
junc I have a ton of respect for you. But please give up. Rivers is much better than Sanchez and you know it. And Norv is superior to Sporano as an OC. If we could make the swap without giving up much, I would be delighted.
