Oh I don't think Reid is even going to be an OC, I was just commenting on Rex's "ground and pound" philosophy. That shit isn't going to cut it in the NFL in 2013 IMO. The rules favor the passing game way too much and other teams are taking advantage while the Jets have been trying to invent a good wheel.
You are right Rex would want a ground and pound, but he made the dumb choice of letting Callly go to the Cowboys and hiring Sparano. Cally for all hes worth is a great OC, but is under utilized every where he goes. Rex made a huge mistake keeping Shotty the extra years and not promoting him. Jackson from the Rams could be your next ground an pound?
It's official NFL: AroundTheLeague @NFL_ATL Chargers fire A.J. Smith and coach Norv Turner. That makes six head coaching changes today.
The top 4 rushing teams in the NFL have made the play offs (Redskins, Vikings, Seahawks and 49ers). It's still a solid way to build your offense but you need a QB capable of punishing defenses on play action. Or Adrian Peterson. It would be better if we had a franchise QB who we lean on to win us every game but that's pure fantasy. If we get a rookie or an inexperienced QB which is more likely, ground and pound is the way to go.
Jets luck is that we hire Norv as OC, Rex gets fired after a 2-8 start and Norv is our HC for the next 10 years..
He made dynamos like AJ Feely and Kevin Kolb look like good QBs...... I do agree with his disregard of the running game not meshing though, but maybe the 2 would make for a happy medium (which is what the JETS need)
I mentioned this in another thread, but I really wouldn't be surprised to see the Bills hire Norv as their head coach. He perfectly fits their Chan Gailey, Dick Jauron, "how the fuck did I convince someone to hire me again?" hiring pattern.
Would love to see Norv here as an OC. Can't imagine any team will ever give him another shot at being a HC.
Would be decent scenario for Norv. OC with full control of offense and Assistant HC. Ownership and FO know we need to focus on offense, so he'll have some say in the rebuilding and approach. Turning this O around gives him best chance at HC somewhere again.
Mike Lombardi reported on the NFL Network that Norv might be returning to Dallas as OC. Jason Garrett will hire an OC.
Remember when Rex said if he were the Chargers coach that he would have a couple of rings? Norv will never come here becasue he is still mad at Rex. Seriously though, I don't think he would choose the Jets when he will have a lot of options that are better for him.
Garrett calls all the plays and runs the offense. I would be shoched if Norv doesnt wind up back with Jerry.
Hiring an assistant that Jerry Jones would never hire to replace him would be a smart move by Garrett.
Why is Norv so highly regarded anyway? Here are his teams' offensive rankings over the past decade. I honestly don't see anything special outside of a couple years.
