Kind of funny how even the media (PFT) is having fun with how everything is over-analyzed when it comes to the Jets.

Jets postpone Rex presser, trigger collective “Hmmmmmm”

If you take it at face value, the fact Rex Ryan isn’t talking today might mean nothing.

But with the Jets, seldom does anything mean nothing.

Ryan, who the owner has already said he would retain after the firing of general manager Mike Tannenbaum, had been scheduled to meet with the media at 4:45 p.m.

The team’s PR staff just passed along word that press conference was postponed because of an “organizational decision.”

Does that mean Rex isn’t as safe as we thought an hour or so ago when the owner said he was? Does that mean there’s a secret plot afoot? What do the unnamed sources have to say? How does Tim Tebow factor into all of this?

If the Jets did not exist, we would simply have to invent them.

    Stay tuned.

I saw the news on twitter. Usually the GM speaks the day after, so not sure why they scheduled Rex and then now cancelled Rex. It could be as simple as Rex lost voice or it could be as complicated as the new GM is close to being hired and he doesn't want Rex.

Also, Rex usually goes on a ESPN NY radio show in the afternoons, so it will be interesting if he's on this afternoon still

probably because they were going to ask questions that a GM would need to answer and Rex isn't a GM. yes, it is probably that simple

What is he going to say? He can't really comment on the stuff media will pepper him with until he sits down with the new GM. Starting now, the flapping up the gums is no more. Woody put a stop to it. It's a new beginning.

Nothing would surprise me at this point. A new GM may very well fire Rex. They may also keep him but put a big muzzle on him and the rest of the CS.

The first press conference should probably be the announcement of the new GM.

a New GM isn't gonna have the power to fire Rex if Woody want's Rex, There isn't much to understand here. They are probably waiting until they fire Sparano because the media is gonna ask about it and Rex won't have a straight answer .Woody endorsed Rex there's nothing a new GM can do about that if the owner wants him. They will find a GM who is ok with Rex being the coach for the oppurtunity of being the GM of a New York franchise they don't have a big say in the matter

What's the point of Rex speaking today? He has no answers to the questions we all want to know the answers to.

Why would anybody schedule Rex to speak on Black Monday after Mike Tannenbaum was fired? I can't see anything good coming out of that. He's going to have an opinion one way or the other and all giving him a mic would do is to dig the Jets hole a bit deeper.

My guess is that it just took a bit for people in the PR department to realize that this is not a normal Monday with Rex's usual presser on tap. They auto-piloted to Rex is going to speak to the press and then got reined in by common sense.

He's got to fire his offensive coordinator and the other offensive coaches.

Maybe Rex is having deep issues with being one of the few survivors?

If Tannenbaum, Sparano and Pettine are all going and Westhoff is retiring that makes Rex kind of lonely at the moment. Throw in that Joe Guglielmo, Sanjay Lal and Bob Sutton might be on the bubble too and things could get really quiet in the team complex until the new GM is hired.

Having a coach have a PC the day the GM was fired without a replacement in place, not to mention other coaches/coordinators most likely out the door as well would be stupid...... this is a "NON story story"

Rex should do the presser and say he'll have a new GM in place as soon as possible....

Well, changes for the OC, DC and Special Teams coaching units for starters. How about a dedicated QB coach for Sanchez? Maybe the Flight Crew needs an overhaul, too. They don't even put out anymore! :)
