I don't know if I would say Roethlisberger has had "elite" weapons. I don't think during the Giants first Super Bowl you'd say that about their offense. Even the Saints team that won the Super Bowl I wouldn't put them in that class. Is it better than what the Jets offense wound up looking like due to injuries? Absolutely. But if you have to put elite talent on both sides of the ball in order for a top 5 pick to play league average to above average football, you've got a problem.
Eric Decker Tebow/Orton: 612 Yards and 8 TDs Manning: 988 Yards 11 TDs Demaryius Thomas Tebow/Orton: 551 Yards 4 TD's (11 games, 50 yards per game) Manning: 1312 Yards 9 TD's (15 games, 87 yards per game) Good QB's make WR's look elite. How good a WR looks depends a great deal on his QB. Larry Fitzgerald has 785 yards and 4 TD's this year. Bad QB's can really make WR's look bad.
What dont you guys understand that good to great QBs make those around them better? Its truly not a hard concept. Fact- Sanchez does not do that. He does not make those around him better. Actually, it seems like he makes those around him worse... Its time to move on from him.
It works both ways. Look around the league and tell me how many better QBs have worse WRs than what Sanchez has had this year. I'd be surprised if you found more than one.
I don't get your point? Stating the obvious means exactly what? There are a handful of QB's who make those around them better. There are a bunch of NFL QB's who are servicable and there are several starters who aren't that good. Sanchez is a mediocre talent with really poor talent around him and bad coaching to boot. Moving on makes perfect sense when and if you can upgrade the position. Tannenbaum has drafted 4 QB's traded for a couple and signed a couple off waivers. Sanchez is the best talent still standing. I would love to upgrade the position but there is no easy way to do it.
Here's the thing, Plax, Braylon, and Cotch have all done nothing since leaving the Jets. It is what it is, but sometimes if neither the QB nor WR are great, the chemistry does matter. Hell, Chansi Stuckey looked promising with Sanchez. Sanchez was never a great QB, but he was a QB we could win it. Only the elite raise the level, once you get past those 4-7 QBs then you need to find a QB you can win with. Sanchez was that until we removed the talent around him. None of this absolves Sanchez as every QB should try to be elite but he wasn't and isn't
Sanchez fanboys, when will the excuses STOP? When is enough enough? It's been four years of HORRIFIC TO VERY AVERAGE performance by Sanchez. If somehow we magically get Calvin Johnson, Wes Welker, and Andre Johnson... Sanchez will make them look like 3rd string WRs... And stupid Sanchez supporters excuses will be "they are past their prime... the OC sucks... they aren't dedicated to the passing game... they ruined Sanchez last year by getting Tebow... Sanchez isn't getting enough time...". You can make excuses for ANYTHING in life... but where does it get you.
You named 3 WRs who never play. You state it like they are now bad but were good with Sanchez. Braylon has been hurt since he left both years, Plax is old and washed up, and Jerricho is a 4th string WR on a team loaded with WRs. Surely you can make a better argument then that....
Minnesota (missed Harvin half the year), Miami, Tennessee, Cleveland, and Washington (Garcon = Holmes when both healthy).
So you agree? Neither the QB nor WR were great but they made it work when together, hence the chemistry comment.
MIN - Ponder is not better than Sanchez. MIA - Our receivers would be better only if we had Holmes, but we don't. I'd take both Bess and Hartline over any of our remaining receivers except Braylon Edwards, who has only been here two weeks. TEN - Seriously? Kenny Britt + Nate Washington >>>>>>>>>>>>> Kerley and Schilens CLE - Weeden is not better than Sanchez. I'd also take their top three WR over ours. WAS - Santana Moss is light years better than Schilens and Kerley. I'd also take Morgan over them too.
Braylon is the only receiver it seems Sanchez had chemistry with. Him and Plax had nothing going... A few nice catches/passes here and there, but nothing good or special. Listen, I do think that organization royally fucked up with Sanchez. I think he truly showed promise and I had a ton of faith in him up until about two months ago. The whole offense stinks, that the problem. We can try and pin point where the blame goes, but honestly each and every person in the organization deserves some blame. At this point, I just find if hard to imagine Sanchez turning into even an average QB. He has just regressed in all aspects... Its really sad. If we are going to start over with a new GM, I just dont see what good starting Sanchez does. We need to start over, especially at the QB situation. We need a GM with an actual vision of this team and one who knows how to develop a young QB.
the weapons excuse isn't valid enough to excuse his shitty play. this guy is a bottom 5 QB, so is the talent level that bad that it makes him look that terrible? i'm not buying it.
An elite QB can elevate the talent around him. Mark is not one of them. Mark's play is determined by those around him. Bad players= Bad Mark. Decent players= Decent Mark.
Some of those INTs are just horrific... And then there is the infamous butt fumble... I think his confidence is shot...Time to cut the losses I say.
I still wonder where Sanchez / the Jets would be today if they hadn't let Braylon Edwards walk. I really believe that move was the fuse for the catastrophic chain of events that has followed. First off, Holmes wasn't as effective as he had been because in '10 all the double teams were going on Edwards, not Holmes. Holmes is not a legit 1. Second, even though Burress was a competent replacement for Edwards, he has a vastly different skillset. He helped in the redzone but was useless between the 20s, where Edwards excelled. More efficient but less opportunities = declining offense. Third, the Holmes / Hunter explosion at the end of the year. In a way it may have been a blessing because it exposed a lot of flaws with this team in general, but again if Edwards is around and the offense is moving the way it was capable of in '10 that may never have happened. Then to go from that to giving Sanchez an extension, which is an OK move... UNTIL they go trade a fourth round pick for Tebow and paint a target on the already reeling Jets organization. I don't know if that move ever happens if the Jets offense is more competent in 2011. Then enter this year, Burress gone too, and all the offensive players who actually deserve to wear an NFL jersey getting hurt... and the program implodes. ...I agree that Sanchez is shot at this point. Totally David Carr territory. However, it didn't have to be this way. The Jets front office and coaching staff deserve blame for that. I don't buy that Sanchez is the worst QB in the league, even if he played like it at times this year. Earlier in the year Sanchez had direct contributions to some of the victories we did have, including a dominant performance in Buffalo week 1. This was what he did in past years too... had some great games, had some awful games. The Jets should've realized this inconsistency and done more to protect him but they just assumed he'd magically morph into Tom Brady without any weapons. The thinking up top REALLY needs to change.
