Because you, and anyone who would take Campbell now is a loser and have a mediocre mind set for this team. I'm not saying Sanchez is the greatest QB ever, or whatever but some of the names you people say you'd "take in a heartbeat" are just ridiculous. Jason Campbell? Really? If he was such a stud, he wouldn't be a backup to Cutler. If he was such a stud, he would have made Washington be better before he left, and before the Raiders took Palmer instead of this guy.
he doesnt need to be a stud. he just needs to be a close to average player. the reasons people would take so many guys "in a heartbeat" is because we have the leagues worst quarterback starting. so obviously, any upgrade would be phenominal... even if its just for an ok player. campbell has been pretty solid. on this team, if we dont turn it over and have ok qb play, we can win some games. campbell would allow that. sanchez doesnt, clearly.
In Campbell's defense while in Washington he had four different OC's in four seasons. How can any QB be successful with that? Also, he was starting to take off last season in Oakland after having his first consecutive OC since HIGH SCHOOL before he got injured and THAT'S why Oakland traded for Palmer.
Doubt the Lions would give him up but I would love to see how much they wanted for Shaun Hill. He may not be the long term answer but he's proven himself more than servicable and he can complete around 60%. Truth is we may need to think about a stopgap at some point because I don't see us drafting a QB high for another 5 years.
Let's see: Matt Flynn: No. Matt Barkley: HELL NO. Geno Smith: Okay. Jason Campbell: Eh. Matt Moore: Yes. Wilson/Samuel/Jones: Kill me now. Kirk Cousins: YES. Sanchez/Kolb swap: Enticing. T.J. Yates: Eh. Michael Vick: HELL YES. Kyle Orton: Fuck No!
Vick turns the ball at about the same rate as Sanchez and can't stay healthy. TJ Yates? LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL I wouldn't mind Moore as a stop gap. I also wouldn't mind seeing what Flynn can do for the right price. Either way I'd want to draft someone. Not sure if this is a good year to draft a QB though. I'd rather take the BPA on the offensive side of the ball and wait for a better QB draft class. A stop gap not named Tebow seems pretty necessary at this point though.
Every QB they mentioned with the arguable exceptions of Barkley, Smith and Cousins was a big step down from Sanchez low perch on the totem pole right now. Jason Campbell? Give me a break, the guy has lost the starting QB position at two franchises already. Why would the Jets want to trade to be strike three? Matt Flynn was a 7th round pick who couldn't beat out a rookie drafted in the third round even though his team had $10 million guaranteed reasons to give him the job. Matt Moore? Oh yeah, that's the guy that will take us to a Super Bowl. I can just see it now: castoff Panthers and Dolphins QB takes Jets to Super Bowl! This article was useless. It was designed to sell ads and subscriptions not reasonably inform.
Another USC QB? No thank you. Robo QB, Palmer, Leinart, Sanchez. (and he's had better weapons around him than any of these guys, save for maybe Leinart) hmy: I'm a fan of Geno. As a Top 10 or 15 pick? No. But a late 1st/early 2nd? Why not? He's accurate.
Palmer was the best provisioned USC QB once he reached the NFL. Chad Johnson, long-ass name guy, Rudi Johnson, Cedric Benson, etc.
I think some of it is the fear of picking up another USC QB and failing again as well as all the trouble that has been going on in USC. The deflated balls during the Oregon game (you gotta question how long that has been going on before they were caught), the jersey switching (don't know if anyone would've fallen for that), but a lot of it has to be Lane Kiffen and anyone connected to him leaving a sour taste in a lot of minds. Personally, I just don't trust anything coming out of USC. Carroll and Kiffen, ugh that place is just a mess.... Opinion on Johnny Manziel who plays against the supposedly best defense in College football in the SEC?
Matt Moore is the only enticing option as a stop gap for 2 years until we reach a draft with a good QB. Besides that, no to everyone that list.
Kolb/Sanchez swap is an interesting idea. Of all the current players, I'd like to pursue Moore. Moore won't cost much & he looks like he'll be a steady average-level QB. Jets won't have the best QB on the field most of the time but they'll also be putting a QB on the field who won't throw games away. Moore could also hold the position down while a younger qb develops. Not sure why Jets fans would gag on any of those names except for Vick. With our QB play this fanbase needs to realize how low the bar is when it comes to improvement.
We also need to realize that trading for a QB is not worth it because none of those QBs have shown they are franchise guys. You don't waste draft picks on a QB that isn't the future. Although we did that with Tebow already
Yes, but he's not a stiff guaranteed 8.25 million next year. I think the Jets probably should hold onto Sanchez as a placeholder while they go get the new guy. If they can find a way to manage the situation that is cheaper on the cap then that's a very enticing option.
