Rex is a very bombastic character , shooting from the hip and happy to invite soundbite after soundbite. Is he the right person to get this current circus tour back on track...this year is a write off but can he really change what is a seemingly trash talk locker room mentalitywith no on the field product. Our problems with skillset are clear but at the moment our lack of discipline on and off the field are troublesome.

We now have 18 months of the Jets being a laughing stock in NFL , from Anonymous sources seemingly ripping a different player , Holmes being benched for quitting on the team , superbowl guarantees in the trash , undisciplined play on the field on all sides of the ball fumbles , break downs in protection , sloppy route running etcand thats before we even get to the Tebow circus

My concern is that Rex doesnt have the personality to shut down the bulletin board material as he is as much of a provider of it than his team.

I think the vast majority of us are sick of seeing us in the headlines for the wrong reasons and 99% of the time for cringeworthy reasons

Can Rex do an about turn or at least a 180 and become a bit more like a Tomlin , Coughlin type....respected top tier coach known for his undoubted skills as a coach and someone who takes no shit and keeps a lid on the vast majority of things.....I fear his bravado will always get the better of him and this shit will continue...but I hope I am wrong

I believe it would take a much more disciplined coach to sort this out. The only way to get a grip on that locker room is to start taking names and numbers and making people afraid for their professional lives. That's not Rex's style.

I agree thats my concern , you look at where Rex came from Baltmore and they carry a heavy stick on the field but Harbaugh is a coach who you can see takes no shit. We talk shit all week and play like a pop warner team

Rex needs to really understand his weaknesses , my fear is it will be inbetween this job and his next one....

You right the ship by winning. Winning makes everything better, its the ultimate remedy. However, this team just isn't good enough (far worse with the significant injuries that have plagued the team).

No coach could make this a winning team. And I define a winning team as one that can make it to the playoffs.

I could be wrong here but I think Rex doesn't have another HC gig waiting for him anytime soon, if ever. He carries some baggage with him from his personal life and the Jets implosion is going to count against him even if it's not all his fault, which it isn't.

Eric Mangini was a surprise insta-hire when he left the Jets, but Woody fired him off of a 9-7 missed the playoffs narrowly scenario. The Browns bit on a Kotite situation - successful head coach who was on the ropes.

Rex is now 3-9 in his last 12 games coached. By the end of the year he could pretty easily be 6-13 in his last 19. That doesn't get you hired fast.

Agree. I have my doubts that an organization wants to gamble on this type of atmosphere unfolding around their franchise. I'll even take it a step further and this is obviously pure speculation, but, I think Rob Ryan getting a HC shot in the near future is in jeopardy as well.

Has there been anything that has happened in the last four years that would indicate Rex can control his locker room or wants to control it?

More than likely no. He's going to have to change and actually hold players accountable, if he can't do that then were in big trouble

If Rex were fired right now, there'd be a bidding war before the sun set.

    Probably not, no.

He's lost the locker room for two consecutive seasons and the only thing that cures this crap is winning. Unfortunately he doesn't have a Quarterback he can rely on him to win him games and that's his fault.

He's as good as done here if the season rides out to a 5-11, 6-10 record. I can't see him back in 2013.

Rex will be in demand as a DC not Head Coach.

I can't see him back either..I think Tannenbaum similar to the guy in Houston will get a pass . We will go to a disciplinarian style coach...I think WJ whilst loving publicity knows this type of publicity is bad..very bad

Everyone should remember that RR promised a SB win but instead has driven the team further down the crapper then Herm & Man did together

No Rex can't right this ship, He has no control of anything and it's coming back to bite him in the ass. After Sunday when Rex is done crying again in the locker room we will be 3-7 after Sanchez goes 5 for 32 for 30 yards and Rex will still stand by Sanchez and i hope it gets him fired at this point. On any other team in the league Sanchez would have gotten benched by now,I don't think Tebow will be much better but anything is better then Sanchez at this point. The one thing about Tebow is I think he can keep us in the game till the very end because he rarely turns the ball over, Every close game this season we lost because of a Mark Sanchez turn over, and any other game including the Seahawks game we lost momentem due to a turnover. Tebow will keep us in football games

Rex is too one dimensional to be a head coach. His complete ambivalence
to the offensive side of the ball, coupled with his willful ignorance regarding
Sanchez's performance, have him ticketed to going back to being a
    defensive coordinator.

Because TT is a totally different QB then MS so the entire O has to be realigned so that TT may have at least a chance to succeed. Sorry to say the coaches RR hired are far to incompetant to accomplish that very important task

No, I don't think Rex has it in him to right this sinking ship. He continues to make the same mistakes, his clock management is awful, he continues to allow the Offensive Coordinator to call every single play and his players are completely undisciplined.

How in the world did he allow Sparano to call for a passing play on third and one against the Pats a few weeks ago, you're the head coach you need to step up and make the important calls.

In his first season Rex was a breath of fresh air now he is nothing but, a windbag full of hot air that none of us can buy into and his team stuck in the same quagmire they were last season a change here is needed.
