The only year Mangini was the DC, Belichick took the defensive play calling duties away from him after week 8. They had been giving up 20+ points a week and had given up 40 twice.

The defensive players were complaining and the results were not very good, the Pats were 4-4.

The 2nd half of the season the Pats went 6-2 (including a loss to Miami with Brady on the bench the last week). They gave up 20+ points only twice the rest of the season.

I doubt bringing Mangini back would be a big help.

The article isn't suggesting that the Pats hire him as DC.

It's amazing how Mangini, who's been fired from 2 teams as a HC for poor performance, is looked at as a savior for, of all coaches, Bill Belicheck.
    PRICELESS.

Well, I highly doubt Mangina would take a DB coacking gig.

The biggest difference is they were so good in the front 7 back in those days, the DBs could play zone and ballhawk. Law was never a great man to man DB, he had great anticipation. Same with Samuel, tho he got burned guessing wrong too often for BB's tastes.

Come on. Just because they started to shake hands again doesn't mean Belichick has, or ever will, forgiven Ratgini.

It'll never happen. Mangini's done more damage to Belichick than any single individual in football, player/coach/GM, doesn't matter.

I'll always have negative feelings for Mangini, but he was one hell of a DC and secondary coach for us. From interviews done recently, I get the feeling he has a lot of remorse for the way the entire situation went down and the repercussions. I believe him when he says he didn't know or want it to go where it went. But it did. Everyone paid their price and moved on.

It's just a situation where this would never happen, though I do agree we really need a coach with his mind.

Our defense (really the secondary) is just flat out terrible! The worst. I forgot Schotty went to the Rams because after their first score against us, he never tried it again. Figures. All you have to do to beat us is throw deep. It's unreal.

He WAS NOT a great DC for the Pats. They were not a good defensive team the year he took over as DC from Romeo. and as I mentioned earlier had the defensive playcalling taken away from him midseason.

The author goes out of his way to say and reiterate that this will never happen yet some people still feel the need to respond with explanations as to why it will never happen.

    Thanks guys.

I thought for a minute they were going to talk about trading for Revis. Chandler Jones, McCourty, Welker and a pick for Revis?

Maybe we could throw in Brady as well, just to make it even.

This is fairly unthinkable. I can only imagine what it's going to be like when Talib and Gronk hit the town. The entire New England region is going to have its gene pool irreparably altered.

  17. Just fantastic. Thanks Tampa for feeding the Patriot machine.

Seriously..if the Super Bowl is another Patriots-Giants rematch I'm selling my season tickets & forgetting the NFL ever existed.

Solid pick up, depending on the compensation. He's in the last year of his deal.

Just posted a new thread on this before stopping in on this one.

Not sure how I feel about it... he's a guy who was suspended for the entire 2010 season and is coming off another suspension on Monday for using Adderall (sp?).

Desperate times I guess. Hopefully he keeps his shit together and actually helps the team.

Assuming the Giants won, would you be more upset than if the Pats won? I don't think it's bad that you've got a foil for the Patriots (especially considering it's after spygate).

For real though, I don't think the Patriots are one Aqib Talib away from being in the Super Bowl. They need to learn to play defense and their offense has underachieved compared to years past.
