And how does this come out in the open the night before the game???? The guy who made this comment is just trying to make himself look like he has "inside info" so if we use Tebow at RB or anything like that he can take credit for it and gain more faggot followers on twitter, its BS
The big plan is to not use any linebackers as part of the regular defense. Putting DBs to cover the wideouts man to man, then putting everyone else on the line to rush the passer to prevent Brady from sitting back and picking us apart using the no huddle. a 7-0 defense if you will. Risky, just like the rumor says, but it forces either 5 o-linemen to block 7 guys, or forces Brady to not use 5 wide and at most 3 wide to prevent an unblocked man. Major risk is if Ridley breaks through the first line of defense, then he is likely to gain a big chunk of yards until Landry or Bell gets to him or if Brady decides to allow an unblocked man if he can get a wide open receiver on a short route for big YAC.
So assuming the Pats are in a 1 back, 2 TE, 2 WR formation who covers who? It sounds like Cover 0 with Landry and Bell up on the TE's and Cro and Wilson covering Lloyd and Welker. That's like a recipe for disaster since nobody will be backstopping the defense. One of the TE's has to be covered by a nickel safety or a linebacker. If you don't do that there's nobody back there and any breakthrough by Ridley is going a long way and anybody who beats their man on a slant is going a long way.
I don't think it's Tebow Tebow gets 3 touches per game THREE ( out side of special teams) . Rex stated that Tebow could not take over Green because Green had been a runningback his entire life , and no matter what Tebow did not have the same experience in order to do it . So understanding that Tebow is not going on defense ...
Yep, hence the "if it works he'll be called a genius, if not he'll get killed" from the original tweet, this is all predicated on the notion that Brady won't have more than 2 seconds to pass and that no one will be open in time. 7 on the line versus 5 o line will force Brady to make Gronkowski and Hernandez blockers more than receivers if he wants to have more than 2 seconds to get a throw off. In your scenario, Brady signals for Gronk and Hernandez to get on the line to block, then it's only 2 wr and a rb. Cro and Wilson on the two wrs one of the safetys on the rb and one safety in the rear.
The only thing I can think of is playing with 3 lineman, and 8 dbs. Wilkerson, Harrison, and Coples Landry, Bell, Bush and Smith Cromartie, Wilson, Lankster, and Trufant or Berry Switch up Pace, Thomas, Maybin, Harris, and Scott with Wilkerson and Coples at the line.
This has Tebow written all over it. Hell, if he can cover better than Bart Scott, send him out there.
But is that really risky? If it doesn't work they just go back to a standard D formation , not sure ......
Has Rex pointed this out? If he hasn't, don't count Tebow out. It did say biggest gamble of Rex Ryan era.
This is why the Jets have been outspoken all week about the reffing in regards to substitution rules. They want this recourse in case the 7-0 plan doesn't work so they can get linemen off the field. The Jets have accused the officials, and accurately, of not enforcing the substitution rules correctly with the defenses playing the patriots this year, when the patriots substitute, the defense has to be allowed to sub as well, this hasn't been happening, and the refs are blowing the whistle for 12 men on the field illegally.
Using the 3-3-5 or "Big Nickel" is hardly a risk or unexpected. We brought in Landry and Bell to combat NE's TEs and drafted a passrusher to help disrupt.
The only way Tebow is going on the defense is if we have somehow figured out a way to punt fake for three without possession of the ball.
The only thing you need to "cook up" to beat us Sunday is throwing passes! Our secondary is so poor you will either catch it or get a flag. No joke. This is going to be a beat down.
Or maybe he pulled a Ronnie Lott and had his leg amputated above the knee! Wait a minute ... I've got it ... Every position on Defense will be played by Bugs Bunny!
As much as I hate to say it, you're really underrating your Pats. Just because they are 3-3 doesn't mean they're not a great team anymore. They have the upper hand over the Jets tomorrow by far.
