It goes beyond supporting the Jets football team. It's much deeper than that. It reflects a person's general attitude and outlook on life. You either see the glass as half full or half empty. That is what leads people down either path. In real life, Darksiders generally do not seem like happy people, often affected by emotional swings of anger or depression. They look more for people to blame, rather than possible solutions to fix the situation. Thus the "Mark Sanchez sucks" thread, and "Cromartie is a piece of shit" thread, and countless others after they make mistakes or struggle. Sunshiners are easy going, easy to get along with, and generally content with the way life is. They aren't picky about petty things. They don't believe in anger or other negative emotions to solve problems. This is why they remain positive about our chances to win, even in tough times. Those are 2 extremes, and believe me, not everybody fits in one category or the other. The majority of people on here do not, but there are plenty of extremists. Some people ride the middle and are objective about it. Some people only post to complain. Some people only post to hype players up. But then again, on a fansite you'd expect way more of the supporters, than neigh sayers, but it's simply not like that on here. I'm in the minority that supports Sanchez, and I've been called a homer for it. I consider myself positive leaning, but not to the extreme. There have been players who performed poorly and I have pointed it out, I don't blindly think all players on the team are future pro bowlers. One win doesn't mean we're going 13-3, just like one loss doesn't mean 4-12. It's really just people over reacting to the good and the bad. Ha, maybe there should be a 1 day lockout period following a game, just so peeps get their emotions in check before posting. I just noticed that half the people that voted top 30 are on my ignore list. Top 20 or 25 is logical based on stats. Nobody has picked top 10 or top 5 except one by mistake. This shows that even the "homers" are realistic where as I'm pretty confident if an option for top 60 was there, it would be picked by the same people. Fun stuff. Maybe a better poll would be 'Where do you rank the Jets as a team?' It might get slightly more accurate results. A lot of people are down on Sanchez because he has performed poor in recent times.
If they're not better than Sanchez then they're preferable for other reasons (upside or whatever). I find it difficult to rate QBs solely in terms of "ability" or how they'd impact the Jets compared to Sanchez today. And Newton's not getting exposed, he's just been trying too hard/trying to do everything. And Freeman may be a game manager but he's a better one than Sanchez. Also, I disagree with you pointing out Schaub, he's clearly better than Sanchez.
Thank you, ESPN Stats & Information for this: • Sanchez is currently the only qualified quarterback in the league to have a sub-50.0 completion percentage. • A quarterback's Points Above Average figure measures the number of points contributed by a quarterback over the season, accounting for QBR and how much he plays, above the level of an average quarterback. A 50.0 Total QBR is the league average. • So how badly is Sanchez performing? Since the start of the 2008 season, no quarterback has cost his team more net points than Sanchez, if replaced by a league-average quarterback. Sanchez has been worth minus-75.0 points to the Jets over the course of his career -- worse than JaMarcus Russell, Derek Anderson, Jimmy Clausen, et al. • Sanchez has overthrown or underthrown 47 passes this season, or 26.6 percent of his total attempts -- the highest percentage of any qualified quarterback. • Sanchez is completing only 47.6 percent of his passes thrown five yards or fewer downfield this season, easily the worst in the league. The next-lowest figure belongs to Josh Freeman, who has completed 58.6 percent of his short throws. • Mark Sanchez, Total QBR by Season, 2009-12: 2009: 31.6 -- 26th in NFL 2010: 48.0 -- 18th in NFL 2011: 33.6 -- 30th in NFL 2012: 33.2 -- 31st in NFL http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8...ez-do-stats-indicate-chiefs-jets-need-new-qbs
How could anybody say Sanchez is a top 20 QB when he has never been in the top 20 even once in his career? (normal ratings, not ESPN's)
To bad if you cannot understand what I posted. Ask 1 of your friends then to translate who may understand more then U. As a clue it concerns that the NYJs have won NOTHING since 01/12/69
I don't consider myself to be either a sunshiner or darksider. I consider myself to be a realist. That is what I think everyone should try to be. Realistic. I put Sanchez at 25 and feel that is probably giving him too much credit. If I added the criterion of upside potential over who I would want to start for the Jets this Sunday, he would go down to thirty or worse. But since my criteria include who I want to play for the Jets right now, i gave him a break and voted 25. Imo anyone who ranks him higher than 25 is a pom pom waving rose colored eye glass wearing reality ignoring wishful thinking homer.
Barcs, I generally consider you to be a good poster, and sometimes agree with you, and sometimes do not. But you seem to be equating being a Jet fan with being a Sanchez Fan. I think you are in error to do so. Many times I find myself in agreement with you, it is when we both defend this or that player from the know nothing angry mobs, like those who (though quiet now) were hating on Cromartie. But that doesn't mean I think being a Jet fan means all players currently on the roster are beyond criticism. To put it simply, I am a Jet fan, not a Sanchez Fan.
I agree. That's why I mentioned that a better poll would be on the Jets team rather than MS. A lot of fans are down on Sanchez but not necessarily the team as a whole. I don't think Sanchez is great, I just think he's average and his stats this year don't reflect his actual skills because of numerous factors. He's under rated. I believe last year the stats didn't do him justice either. Maybe I'm wrong, I just don't think so. One thing I guarantee is that his stats will improve week to week with Keller back.
