Hats off to Cro for another great game. I know some of you are already thinking WTF. Yes he had a couple bone headed penalties but hear me out. All of those penalties were from being aggresive. He ripped the ball out of the colt's WR's hand even though it was negated by his illegal contact. I think it was Maybin's hand-plant that called back Cro's pick-6. But the Jets scored 7 anyways. And while he didn't hold Wayne to 0 yards like Revis has, he didn't let any big plays get away from him. Then he goes out on ST for a KR. I was cringing -> for two opposite reasons: flashbacks of last year's Oakland game and him getting into a collision that would injur him. He's been playing really aggressively and that aggressive style may come with some penalties. His positives are definitely outweighing his negatives and in my opinion well worth it. Since Revis has gone down, the guy is playing out of his mind. Kick Returns, WR. Defense. I have a feeling he is going to keep playing WR until he scores a TD - I can almost see how bad he wants one. Rex has put Cro on an island with the oppositions #1 WR most of the time (formation and play pending) and Cro has held his own. No he's not Revis, but all things considered, you could not have asked for more from you #2 CB. That's right folks, our #2 CB is playing like a #1 on most teams AND he's out there on offense and ST. You have to admit, while a lot of the Jets money is tied up in the CB position, this was a great move considering all of Cro's contributions on three facets of the team. Discuss...
If he keeps this up, no doubt he'll be on the All-Pro team. I love the way he's been playing, very aggressive jamming WRs at the LOS, TACKLING, and making plays. IMO he's been our MVP this season so far
I am on board, he's been playing great. Some guys struggle as #2s, it's like a closer in baseball becoming an 8th inning guy. maybe that is his issue? he's been playing great football.
When Revis first went down I said we were very lucky to have another CB who could be a #1CB on any other team in the NFL. The Jets are VERY fortunate to have signed Cromartie. Cro has shown that he is ready to step up and be the #1 guy in the past and he's proving it again. He has great hands, and if you throw the ball up in his direction he is more likely to come down with it than your reciever. Now instead of QB's not throwing to Revis side they'll just not throw to Cromartie's side. If you throw to Cro's side you better be very very accurate (hard to do with a deep ball) because if it's a jump ball you are looking at an INT, and he is fantastic after the catch too. Very very happy to have Cro right now. He gives us a fighting chance every week this season. When they signed him they really scored!
He's playing like his 2007 self. Out of his mind. The way I see it is that while Cro isn't as technical and mistake-proof as Revis, he has more potential for making the big play, so it all evens out. I wish Cro plays like this next year if/when Revis returns. We can finally have the Revis clone we were looking for when we were chasing after Aso.
...or (I know I'll get flamed for this) you trade Revis for some help on the offensive side of the ball. Revis makes a lot of money.
He does, and while its not inconceivable, its very rare that a team has 2 really good CBs. We complain about Rex going Ground n Pound in today's NFL which is a passing league. But we are ready to jettison one of the 2 peices that make passing on the Jets so difficult? Really? With Wilson developing as a solid nickle and another really good FS on this team (as long as Landry and Bell are here another year or two) opponents would have no choice but to run the ball.
Cro has been amazing the past few games - all of a sudden he's the most exciting Jet on the field. Watching the game yesterday it just felt like he was going to make a big play at any moment - and he did have some great plays regardless of the bogus/questionable calls that took back his pick 6's. You have to love a guy that wants to play (and actually has the skills to) on both sides of the ball. Adding him to the WR mix when we already have Hill, Kerley and Schilens puts a hell of a lot of speed on the field - seems like just a matter of time before he makes a big play on O. Maybe not having Revis out there taking most of the shine has really motivated Cro. He just looks like a different guy and is showing the exact opposite of what everyone criticized him for - not tackling, not jamming WRs, not playing to his potential. All of a sudden not having Revis for the season doesn't look quite so dire as it did at first.
the man has stepped up in revis' absence. he's done a great job and can't wait to see what he does against wes
He's definitely been playing lights out, been very impressed with him so far. I think he has risen to the challenge of being the #1 CB, he's always been good but I feel he didn't play this well as the #2 CB behind Revis while covering inferior WRs. Obviously he got more throws his way because a lot of QBs just don't throw it to Revis Island but if he was doing as good a job as he has been at #1 that would mean more interceptions or at least blocked passes. Not to mention he's also helping out on ST and on offense. Even if he's not making huge catches on offense he's at least making things more difficult for the defense.
I have said alot of shitty things about Cro, and even though I believed them at the time, he is making me eat my words. So Thank you Cro!
Cro's biggest issue has always been over aggressiveness, he can run with anyone, he can close on anyone, there's no need for him to grab the way he sometimes does. He's been great the last couple of weeks, Wilson has held his own pretty well too.
Cromartie frusturated Reggie Wayne all game long, should of had a pick 6 and another pick six that both got called back, but his first int led to Jets td ,so great job Cromartie, he's my favorite Jets player right now along with Joe McKnight
Gotta love it, imagine if he can play at this level when Revis comes back (assuming both are still around).
He is playing like a few of the posters on this board said he would. The guy is an excellent corner; he's always been overshadowed by Revis. I honestly never understood the hate for the guy outside of the couple bonehead penalties he takes (and the fact that he has a million kids).
He was awesome in 2010 and 11 as well I don't know how you guys can't see that. How did we have a top 5 pass D the last two years with no passrush, slow linebackers and crappy safeties?
