Prevent D typically plays way back to prevent big plays. Many normal defenses give up some space underneath in the belief that teams won't be able to string enough plays together before getting stopped. Not all teams play "tight man coverage". Actually, very few do.
It is only a saying that has been used for decades. One Google search found hundreds of results. Here are a few about the Broncos last year: http://usatoday30.usatoday.com/sports/football/nfl/story/2012-01-01/chiefs-broncos/52323990/1 http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...ncos-back-into-the-playoffs-with-raiders-loss http://www.9news.com/news/article/239386/345/Tebow-Broncos-win-AFC-West-head-to-playoffs http://www.christianpost.com/news/tebow-haters-gain-steam-as-broncos-back-in-to-nfl-playoffs-66374/ I'll throw in one from last week from the MLB: http://sports.yahoo.com/blogs/mlb-b...ack-playoffs-dodgers-loss-062420780--mlb.html Losing your final 3 games, and needing another team to lose to get in, is the very definition of backing in to the fucking playoffs. Read my post again. I specifically said during the winning 'run', nothing more.
The fact that it is a "saying", does not make it any more real. I am aware that you did not invent the saying. By that measure, we could say Tebow made sure to win all his games early so he didn't have to stress over having to win his last game to make it into the playoffs. I looked back at your statement, and you did in fact specify during the "winning run". It is clear, though, that you chose that time period to exclude the Broncos first playoff game and playoff win in six years.
dr.velociraptor... I wouldn't mind seeing Tebow cut at this point. I'd like to see him sign with Jacksonville and hopefully get to start for them. Exciting to watch this guy play. Would like to see a team build around him. Tebow just doesn't have the support in NY. The coaching staff and most of fans seem happy living in mediocrity with the fragile psyche of Sanchez. I have a brother serving in middle east and I really worry about him day to day over there, almost as much as some goofy Jets fans worry about Sanchez psyche in dealing with Tebow as his backup. Now that's real pressure eh?
The Broncos were in the exact same scenario 3 seasons before. All they had to do is win any one of the last 3, (buffalo being one of the three in BOTH instances) and they never took care of business. They got in last year because of the third tiebreaker when two other teams finished with the same 8-8 record. Pure.... dumb... luck... 3 years ago, the same thing happened, only the Broncos didn't win the tiebreaker. It got Shannahan fired, McHoodie the Imploder hired, Cutler traded... and irrelevancy. A bunch of picks traded to get back into the first round to draft.... a publicity stunt.
The 1-4 record to start the season really hurt them. Luckily, the were able to win the division at 8-8 anyway, which is a good thing. It's a good thing the Broncos beat the Chargers and Raiders (on the road) the second time they played them (after losing to both teams at home the first time), or else the Chargers and Raiders would have tied at 9-7, and the Broncos would have been 6-8.
I'm starting to come around to the "Cut Tebow" Point of view. Atleast we wouldn't have to listen to the same chit from the same people on every thread. Is what it feels like on every thread.
It'll get worse when Tim is making indisputable contributions to Jets' scores, like powering in TDs like the one Rex and/or Tony stopped this past game. I bet the last thing Rex and Tony wanted is Tim to score on that drive. Why else would they pull him? 3 freakin' yards from the goal line with 3 plays to make it. Hell, Tim made that many yards on the Jets' 20 yard line with 4th and 2ish and got the 1st and 10.
I for one was happy he did that well on the first play. Less happy about the second. However, you can't really believe that's why they pulled him. If they didn't want him to score they wouldn't have put him in at all when he was so close to the endzone.
I think they pulled him because they had used all three of the secret Tebow offensive plays they had for the game.
At this point, it's not a matter of whether they should cut Tebow... they should FREE Tebow. Let him go. KC, Jax Tennessee, Sea, to name a few could be possible starting options. Hell, maybe even Dallas next year. Doubt any of these situations would happen, but Rex is making a mockery of Tebow.
Yes I know how dare Rex Ryan make a mockery of Tebow by trying to do what's best for the team. Poor Tebow. Having to play WildCat QB like other similar players in the league, I feel so sorry for him. It's completely ruining his "brand" too... THE NERVE!
I guess you forgot but he got the first then got stopped for a loss. That'd why they took him out, too predictable.
