Dawkins is a great player. Love his perspective. Says its not time for Tebow to start . However says that Tebow should get some series to establish some rhythm. Says that its impossible to make his game work 1 snap at a time. Needs to see the speed of the DE's and LB'ers to make good decisions. Skirted the question of if Tebow made Denver's defense play harder. (good move on his part) Said that the defense did know that they needed it to stay close, because a different Tebow showed up in the 4th once he stopped thinking and played "his game" Eh I love that Dawkins doesn't feel like an ESPN mouth piece. Anyone see/hear this? Or care? Is it just the first take hype machine?
Dawkins is one of the biggest supporters of tebow and yet he says Tebow should not start yet? I guess Tebow just isn't that good. Looks like we gotta stick to Mark. My only question to Dawkins is... "Isn't there a chance Tebow has improved since last year as far as throwing the ball?" I am curious to find out and fast...
Substitute in place of the words in bold, "in the 4th quarter the team was behind and the coaches finally allowed Tebow to throw the ball and play like a real QB, spreading the field and giving Tebow lots of throwing options", and that is much closer to the truth.
It's a big decision to bench Sanchez. Once you do it, it's over. The timing needs to be right for the organization to move on. I don't think they will consider a mid-season replacement at the QB position. Not unless things just completely fall apart. They've all said Sanchez played well against the Texans. If that's the standard they're judging by, I can't see him getting benched. Because surely he'll pull it together and have some better games.
I didn't take it that way. I took it as its not time to sit Sanchez yet. All players know how hard it is to be a starter in the league, and Dawkins isn't ready to throw Sanchez under the bus yet. 99% of the players in the NFL aren't going to advocate benching a starter.
even if you dont want tebow to start i cant see how anyone would want sanchez to start. a pessimistic person could rightfully argue he is the current worst starting qb in football with plenty to back it up. at best, an optomistic person could say he is bottom 6 in the league right now. a super homer could argue he is an average qb. why would you want any of those after 5 years, with the last year or so being putrid and things getting worse every few games? everyone should be begging for one of the following 3: - tebow - mcelroy - someone not currently on the roster i see no sense is wanting to start sanchez. he doesnt give us a decent chance to win any week.
You are correct. All of the Denver games followed a similar pattern that was attributed to Tebow's 4th quarter heroics, but it was actually the coaches over managing Tebow for the 1st 3 quarters. They were obviously afraid of him, but everytime they turned him loose he made plays. That said, Tebow's last 3 regular season games were some of the worse I have ever seen.
I wouldn't put the first Pats game in with the last 2. I would agree the last 2 were atrocious, the firts Pats game he threw gor 200 yards and ran for another hundred. three turnovers in the 2nd quarter sunk that game
I watched the interview on First Take also. He seemed conflicted about supporting Tebow which is a bit shocking to me after playing through Orton and watching Tebow turn it around. Would he have been happier just keeping Orton as the QB? He also said the defense held many of the games close but isn't that a defenses job; to limited the opposing teams scoring?
Most people are a little gun shy -- the detractors scream the loudest, with the mocking tone, and you're supposed to just "know" he can't play. So nobody wants to be painted as a Tebow guy, but at the same time most of them are afraid to bet against him.
 A retired Hall of Fame safety, who was both a leader, and very outspoken for the entirety of his career, is suddenly afraid to go on record to back Tim Tebow because he's worried that he'll be painted as a 'Tebow guy' in the media?!? Can you even smell the horse shit you are shoveling anymore?
Trying to make a go of it as an on-screen commentator. They won't be handing him the job just because he's a Hall of Fame caliber player. I'm sure he's very mindful of putting his best foot forward in the studio. There's a subconscious tendency to conform, to avoid risky pronouncements, or to at least hedge a bit. And that's what I would describe his position as -- just hedging. It wasn't a decisive thing either way.
Weapon X is the same person that he was the day he stepped on the gridiron 16 years ago. Polite, and outspoken. He is an intelligent, articulate and opinionated man that I guarantee has already been offered a job on one of the many sports outlets out there. He doesn't hedge his bets. He goes all in. The last person in the world he is, is a conformist. You, sir, have it wrong.
Yep. At the same time, he gave a pretty darn ringing endorsement of Tebow's "clutch" abilities in the 4th quarter when it comes to time to make plays to win the game. I almost got the impression that he was in "awe" of Tebow's play in that regard.
He had a great point when he said that Tebow stops thinking and just starts playing. I believe a lot of that comes from the coaches letting him play his game in the fourth quarter which they should have been doing the whole game. My issue is this, if they say Sanchez is in his fourth year as a professional with a limited college career And still developing, then wouldn't it also be equally right to say that Tebow is still developing after only a couple years and only one partial year starting? With his entire body of work counted, from high school to the pros, we can say that Tebow does have more experience winning than Sanchez right?
I concur with your observations. However, I have some suspicions that our take on your first point may not be the actual circumstance. It just occured to me that it would be to cool if Tim is making a journal and plans to publish a couple of books in the future. A Book about his take on being a Bronco would be way interesting and considering the size of the Gator Nation, would sell well.
Of course....except that this is Tim Tebow we're talking about, and he gets subjected to an unbelievably blatant double standard compared to other young QB's in the NFL.
Dawkins was actually cut-off by the other analysts before he could answer the question about Tebow uplifting the team and they didn't go back to the question. They talked over him.
