Remember 2010's Hard Knocks? Remember Week 2 in Pittsburgh? The Jets and their fans know how important Darrelle Revis is. Losing him will hurt. This is officially Sanchez's team. They will win or lose by him.
I may be looking at this game with my green goggles on, but I think that this game is much more winnable than the Miami game. Hear me out. First off, the 9ers are still a running team. They control you with the run, then they throw quick passes to Crabtree and Manningham. They send Davis down the middle of the field to keep the safeties back. Randy Moss has not been a huge part of this offense yet, so we'll just assume that when he does see the field, he'll sprint down the field as he has done so far. Alex Smith is a very limited QB, IMO, BUT the thing that makes him work is that he does not turn the ball over a lot. He's efficient at the short, quick passing game. Having Davis helps that alot. Here's why I think we can beat them: On the ground, on paper, so far we suck. However, we suck for a very specific reason. We have no speed at the LB level so guys like Spiller and Bush can bounce it to the outside on us and get huge chunks. RBs that are bruisers and like contact (like Gore) get bottled up by our DL pretty fast. The 9ers do like to pull their OGs alot, so look for our LBers to shoot the gaps. I think that this is a favorable matchup for Wilkerson and DeVito. Both guys are very stout and if the RB isn't a sprinter, they won't let him loose. My guess is, Gore is going to be the focal point of the defense. Shut him down and make Alex Smith throw. People predicting 120 yards for Gore are overly cynical. I'd be shocked if he cracks 80. Manningham & Crabtree are good WRs but they're not elite. This isn't the 99 Rams. Unfortunately, neither one really is a good matchup for Cro. I guess he covers Manningham who likes to use the sideline. Crabtree is very physical and I think would be matched up with Wilson (who is better than people think). I don't expect Wilson to become Revis, but keeping Crabtree to "about" his average of 6 catches for 65-70 yards would be great. Vernon Davis is going to be someone we have to eliminate. Plain and simple, Bell or Landry are going to be on him every play over the top, with a LBer or a CB underneath. The problem is, which CB? Is Lankster up to the challenge? McKnight is supposedly making a transition but do he have enough technique to stay with Davis? Is this the game where we see DeMario Davis a lot? Whatever it is, I hope that Rex is not counting on Calvin Pace for his coverage skills. On the other side of the ball, we're going to need Powell. A lot of him. The 9ers are aggressive to a fault and they will throw the kitchen sink. We're going to need screens and a lot of them. I liked what Holmes did last game where he basically decided to start earning his money and routinely beat double coverage. If that guy shows up, we have a good chance. We also brought back Turner, who isn't much use in the vertical passing game but he's a big physical guy who can beat up on the 9er DBs. Kerley in the slot will have some room if Keller is finally back. Don't underestimate the 1PM start. This is a WC team flying across the country and playing an early game. That's a big advantage for us.
It's interesting analysis but it seems like we have struggled to contain the run the past three games. That suggests we would be more at risk of losing a game to a running-centric team than a passing-centric team.
Different style runners. Guys like Spiller and Bush have a lot of speed, that's the achilles heel of our defense. Guys that are smashmouth downhill backs, they're not as big of a problem.
Excellent post. But the 9'ers flew from Minnesota to Ohio where they are training for Sunday. They didnt go back west.
Even with Revis this is Sanchez's team, we don't have the running game to say otherwise, we need to Sanchez to perform.
hey everybody, niner fan here. hopefully this turns out to be a great game with no serious injuries on both sides!
The Jets need to get the lead in this game, on ESPN they said that the 49ers are not a good comeback team and play much better with a lead, and then again, it's ESPN talking here, so let's just retract my post and just hope the Jets show up and play their asses off for our fallen Revis. Would love an upset this weekend. The 9ers are seriously going to be a mountain to conquer. If the Vikes did it, then so can the Jets. Alex Smith has looked very poised to me this year, he's improved in a big way which started last year and looks much steadier than Sanchez does right now. C'mon Jets, you owe Frisco a little payback, do it!!
I see this becoming a high scoring game for some reason. I think both defense are going to falter and its going to end up being back and forth for while for scoring touchdowns. Now that I said this, it will probably be a 6-5 game or something
They are already running in mud it seems. Can't be too big a difference. I'm pretty sure Willis has a bad ankle though after last week so I'm hoping he will be a bit slower this week anyway. Holmes on Rodgers this week will be a fun match up. I'm hoping Hill will be able to break out and play like his first home game this week. The last 2 weeks of dropping everything needs to end.
Our team is accustom to not so great weather. Not to mention our defense is a bit slow as it is, so the difference for us wouldn't be as great. For them however, they are use to good weather, and very very fast. It'll bring them down a notch.
Latest forecast is only calling for a 30% chance of rain. Weather will probably be fine http://tiny.cc/nrtalw
Jets Will Beat 49'ers Jets will get a victory this Sunday vs 49'ers. 49'ers don't have enough offense to beat Jets. So put on ur party hats Jets fans & "Lets get ready to rumble"...:beer::beer:
I hope so, as last week proved anything can happen. If Sanchez plays to his abilities like week 1 and Hill remembers how to catch we will have a good shot.
I wasn't aware the Jets had enough offense to beat the 49ers. In any event, I sure hope you're right. It would be a HUGE win.
