I have a question about expectations. What wold it take for people to feel Tebow is "effective"? a certain yards per carry? I feel like there is some imaginary bar that detractors have set and I can't get a feel for where it is

And while we're at it, you can give the Jets FO your considerable advice in evaluating NFL quarterbacks, such as Tebow.

He's the backup, so I think they nailed it.

Oh, okay. So Tebow is a good, competent choice to play backup quarterback in the NFL. He belongs in the league as a quarterback. You agree with that. Got it.

Not quite, but you're close. It's more like he was worth the Jets taking a shot with a 4th round pick, being that their backup situation had much to be desired. That, and Sparano has always liked to slide in a gimmick play from time to time.

As far as a competent backup, sure, why not. All busts were a competent backups at some point on their way out of the league.

They have to actually use him to misuse him.

Good to know. I also think he's definitely NFL caliber, and the Jets were wise to acquire him.

IIRC, I do believe Aaron Rodgers and Steve Young were both "competent backups" for a time as well. :)

Expecting Phaytal to make a positive contribution to a serious discussion is a mistake. It won't break my heart if I never saw a comment by him again (I have no intention of using ignore options), after all, he is a Bronco fan not a Jets fan.

and thats why normal people have issues with Tebow supporters.

Phaytal, may be a dickwad, but his point is that many backups, in fact a majority I would say, never become an effective starter, yet you guys start bringing up the best of the best that played second fiddle at one point or another.

If you think Tebow's ceiling is tom brady...well youre insane and need help. But if you think Tebow's ceiling is say a Jeff Hostetler or Garciathen we can have an intelligent conversation but at this point youre just proving his point.

you can only name a handful of back ups that ever came out of obscurity to do anything.

Here's a small sample of starters that are now backups.

    Orton - sucks
    Quinn - sucks
hasslebeck - meh... had a couple of good seasons but never did shit for the seahawks
hill - started for the rams and sucked ass now he's a detroit back up.

    and on and on.

98% of the back-ups in the nfl will remain so. chances are tim will either remain a side-show or disappear into the ether that is the history of the NFL backup QB.

Most of us understand your points (you repeat them often) and the impact your words have on a reasonable conversation. If nothing else, you are persistant and as valid as your points.

Yo dude. You have problems with Tebow supporters for things that you imagine they said. By giving examples of backup QBs who were competent, in no way does that suggest that we are saying Tebow's ceiling is Tom Brady. You just invented that statement on your own, using faulty logic. So, continue to have problems with people for things you made up about them.:breakdance:

Is Tebow's ceiling Tom Brady? Too early to say at this point. I certainly would not make that leap at this time.

The smartest thing ever said on the forum... because it probably true.

The dumbest thing ever said on the forum... because no one has ever said it.
