Should the Jets go with a base 4-3 going forward? We need more interior pressure. They should really look to start Coples and Ellis. Give DeVito reps, but not starting DE reps. Ellis and Pouha would give us more interior pressure and hopefully open up things on the outside. Also give Davis more reps especially on passing downs. The question is, how will the linebackers respond?

Well, there is one main issue without Revis, our CB depth sucks. Revis and Cro might be the best CB tandem in the NFL, but Cro and Wilson are probably still top 10. The problem I see is our #3 and #4 CB's. Hopefully we bring in someone like Drew Coleman or Donald Strickland, Lankster just can't get the job done.

I think our defense needs to move to a 4-3, with Pouha and Devito at the DT's and Coples and Wilkerson at the DE's. Harris at MLB, Pace at one LB spot, rotate Demario Davis and Bryan Thomas at the other one.

Also, our defensive line needs to step the fuck up. Wilkerson and Coples were first round picks for a reason, they need to put some pressure on opposing QB's. Maybin also needs to provide some pass rush. He is on the team for ONE reason, do your fucking job.

You're right, Wilson has been beyond bad, three years in the NFL and he still does not turn around for the football and is called for pass interference.
He is a liability on defense and teams will force the jets into using nickel formations and kill Wilson. They will have to play more zone and do the best they can to get to the QB with a 4 man rush.

The truth is its time for Kyle Wilson to step up. He plays well and we will survive. He doesn't and we am could be looking at a top 5 pick in next years draft.

We will see what kind of coach Ryan is now. He has to have had a plan all along for no Revis as he was always a threat to be sitting home watching looney tunes waiting for a new contract.

WITH Revis our defense was at best a middling defense and absolutely awful against the run. WITH Revis it was 21st overall and possibly the worst in the NFL against the run. I don't see how it gets better with the personnel we have.

Only thing I can hope for is see Wilson really step up, or a lot more picks as QBs try to really take advantage of our secondary.

Teams would be stupid to try and go to the air when everyone is running all over the Jets.

And so you see the scenario where losing Revis might even be a positive. Teams decide to go to the air more often. The Jets 28th ranked rushing defense is not exposed as much. The Jets actually maintain some defensive consistency in the process.

The Jets have been maddeningly inconsistent on defense since the beginning of 2011. They were in fact maddeningly inconsistent on defense at the end of 2010.

Is it possible that trying to build an entire defense around a cornerback causes inconsistency when the people closer to the ball aren't stars? Unfortunately we can't answer that question this season because the people closer to the ball still aren't stars.

The one thing we can answer this season is whether or not Rex Ryan is capable of coaching at a high level. If he can keep things together and keep the Jets in the thick of things it will be a helluva coaching job.

I was afraid of this kind of nonsense from you when i heard that Revis was out for the year. Building a D around cb's causes other players to be inconsistent??? How does that follow?

You should have taken the day off to celebrate and not posted anything.

Building a D around the CB's leaves MUCH less money to pay people closer to the ball.

Does that make sense or do I need to explain the economics of having one of the highest paid CBs and another CB averaging $8.8 million a season and also having a recent 1st round pick back there as well?

    Think about it.

Your obvious implicit assumption is that this clown show front office headed by the chief accountant would make proper and efficient use of that money after having exacted maximum value in getting rid of Revis.

Which I think is a laughable assumption.

Ever heard of the saying a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush?

Revis would be the bird in the hand, in case you were wondering.

Yeah but a small bird isn't going to get the job done no matter how pretty it is.

The Jets are going to be in a position of doubling down on the CB's in a season at the outside. My point is that there is no post 2009 evidence that you can build a strong defense around the CB's and it's pretty clear the Jets used smoke and mirrors that season.

Looking at 2009, if you'd been told the Jets were going to add Cromartie and a 1st round pick CB to that what would you have interpolated as the likely results?

    What did we get instead?

    Think about it.

The Jets created a real cap problem this year because they were chasing Asomugha last off-season. What would that have gotten them if it succeeded? What did it get the team who did succeed?

    Think.

Said this in another thread but might as well put it here....

For better or worse, get ready for more blitzing now with Revis gone. That will lead to more sacks/pressure but also lead to more big plays that lead to TDs.

We go from a conservative defense because of Revis to one that will go feasting or end up having a famine. Now whether you like that or not is up to you.

We almost lost the Miami game and Revis was playing in that game, Revis played every game last season and we went 8-8. Guys Revis is not the whole team he's one player. Our offense is more important then our defense. He is not the end all be all like everyone is making it sound like. Is he Elite ?? Yes of course but people are acting like we never lost a game that Revis played in, that's a joke we can win without Revis and we will. Revis couln't save our season alone last year, its up to the entire team to start heading in the right direction its a team sport

Woah is me, waaaaah waaaah waaaah!!!

Cmon fellas!! Heads up! Guy got hurt, this sh*t happens. Maybe it'll be a wake up call for the rest of the defense and they'll come out like their hair is on fire. Maybe it's a blow that will knock some urgency into this offensive line and the running game. Maybe it'll bring out the leader in Sanchez.

I'm not sure about all that, but I am sure that there are still 13 regular season football games left, Revis or not. Love the guy, hope for a speedy recovery, but I'm not gonna let this bring me down.
