Now that Darrelle Revis is out for the season, or at least a significat part of the season (new IR rule), how are the Jets going to adjust? It is no secret that Revis is the corner piece of our defense, no pun intented, and allowed Rex to call the game a specific way. As Rex mentioned, we are fortunate to have another #1 for most teams as our #2, but we can't leave him on an island like we did with Revis. It doesn't even sound the same, Cro Island. I believe that the Jets will now need to depend on our non-existant pass rush even more. In my opinion, we are now going to need to move a base 4-3 defense, and play a lot more zone. How do you believe we will adjust to losing our best defensive player, and arguably the best defensive player in the NFL?
Teams are going to attack the secondary more, especially Wilson and Cromartie. They need to step up badly.
I'm pretty intrigued to see how the jets adjust now. Looks like coples and others will get the reigns taken off them. Instead the DLine may have do TONS more stunts and more exotic defensive line pressures instead of wanting to have their Line push the pocket towards the face of the QB.
Honestly I really dont think we have the personnel to step up and generate the pass rush that is needed, hopefully I am wrong but guys like Wilk,Coples,Ellis and Wilson have to start really proving they were worth their high draft picks. Will this happen?depends on the heart of the players I suppose.
well our linebackers suck anyway, so i guess if other teams try to attack the secondary more it can only be better, if cro and kyle step up
Its not over. Kyle Wilson probably starts on most other teams. He hasn't played bad this year. Cromartie just needs to play more safe and not give up the big play. Man to Man hes solid.
every other team in the league plays without a guy like Revis, so we are just gonna have to to bottom line, Cro and Wilson are still great corners not as consistant as Revis but still top two on any team in the league. My question is who plays the num 3 corner??? Lankster??? are there any free agents still availabe at corner??
Its terrible news and its a big blow, but you know rex is right we have to continue on as a team and win games as a team. Cro will do fine at #1 i think we have all become so used to having revis that we dont realise how good cro truely is...Anyway the first thing i do when revis hits the IR is bring in Andre Carter for a visit. If he is over the quad injury last year you sign him and bring in plax...and no i dont love plax either but he is a presence in the red zone. right there we hopefully inprove in to major things...scoreing and sacking the qb. The other thing i look at is maybe bringing in Tim Hightower if he is healthy. Those would be my moves to keep this thing rolling. Get well Revis.
Lankster can't be the number 3 corner. He just can't he's terrible right now and needs time to improve. We need to get Strickland back or look for another vet option.
You know who HAS TO step it up the most for us? Not Cro, not Wilson, but MARK SANCHEZ. This is the time for him to truly step up, be a leader, command his troops and take total control of this team. If he can pull out a winning season without Revis, it'll go a long long way. Now our offense cannot rely on our defense. Lets see.
Time for Rex Ryan to step up and show us he really IS the Best Defensive Mind in Football today. He's gonna need new schemes to make up for both the loss of Revis AND the lack of a pass rush. Now if the offense can't carry its weight, the remainder of the season is in deep trouble.
Yes this is not the ideal situation. I bet we see more Blitzing to generate a pass rush and more zone blitz looks. We just dont have the monsters up front to generate pressure consistently without brining additional guys. If our blitzed are picked up, we could be in for a long season as neither our SS or FS excell in coverage.
No opponent with a decent rushing attack is going to care much about whether or not Revis is out there. We already had real issues stopping fast backs before the injury. We might actually gain from the injury if opponents decide to pass more and run less. Rex can scheme to make pass coverages harder to read. He can't scheme speed into aging linebacker's legs.
Gotta get Coples and Demario Davis going. We need to be a little more aggressive and creative on blitzes. Rex's 1st yr with team Revis hadn't come into his own yet, and we brought the house on a regular basis. I actually liked that defense better than what weve been running.
I agree - back to 2009. We were blitzing on 53% of downs. I want the opposing offense to see a wave of green heading towards them.
Its very simple. If the offense produces and stays on the field it takes pressure of the D. but if we do this 3 and out BS every series the D gets tired and these no huddle Offenses will pick us apart. its all about ball control.
The way to think of this season is like it's the Little Rascals ladder engine rolling down the hill sort of out of control. Stymie just fell off the back and everybody else is going "oh no!" and making scared faces but all Stymie was doing was steering the back end and it's the front end that's going to determine where the thing winds up at the bottom of the hill. If Spanky and Alfalfa manage to get things squared away up front the Jets will be just fine when that big turn comes up and if they don't, well Stymie wasn't going to save things from the back end anyway.
