I agree with this 100%...The fact that the Jets stood pat more or less with the running back corps is a real indictment on Tannenbaum and the front office. Everyone could see last year that Greene wasn't getting it done and there was no stud waiting in the wings. It seems like every team has 2 RBs better than Greene.
I'm thinking it'll probably be about week four or five before Greene is too injured to start. Money would be on week four.
Greene is a solid #2 Rb nothing more. Powell may not even be that, but we dont know what we have. Mcknight stinks. Pretty obvious to me we need to grab a RB in the first round next draft.
We needed a RB in the first rd this year, but no we went with a Defensive lineman. That worked out good for the D eh?
Yes, two games, CLEARLY enough sample size to say we made a mistake drafting Coples... Should've drafted David Wilson, he's making a huge impact... We need to draft a running back next year. We could have drafted one in this past draft, but we had a LOT of needs. Defensive end may not have been on top of the needs list, but if the line can create more pressure up front without blitzing, it will be worth it. Everyone wanted to improve the pass rush in the offseason. Can't argue with the Hill pick. Maybe a RB or OT in the 3rd instead of Davis, but the LB corps sorely needed some speed. We do need a running back, but that was definitely not our #1 need last offseason.
I know...my poor attempt at humor. But you raise a point...if a player IS a starter on Special Teams, but not O/D, is he still considered a 'starter'? As in so and so 'started' 10,000 straight games?
Powell is garbage. He played in the big east and was hardly even impressive (look at the Colts RB Brown who tore up the big east and is just an average player). McKnight should play over him for at least the threat of a big play. Greene>>>>>Powell.
Really? I mean I don't follow the Big East, as I'm in SEC country, but you can't be seriously knocking somebody for playing in one conference over another. A few Big East players that aren't exactly sucking it up, just off the top of my head: Brent Celek Michael Vick Gary Brackett Keith Bullock Dwight Freeney Larry Fitzgerald Oh yeah, and Ray Rice, if you're looking for a runningback who managed to play in the Big East and not suck in the NFL. And if that's not enough for you: Revis, the island itself played in the Big East. Oh wait...........and Curtis Martin, the #4 All time rusher, NFL HOFer. There are plenty of reasons Powell sucks, and plenty of backs who are better than he........but the Conference he played college football for isn't one.
Are you thick? He didn't say no good players come out of the big east. He said the guy played in the big east which is not a very strong conference and wasn't really a standout, both comments are true. The players you listed did perform extremely well and stood out in that conference. Powell did not stand out.
He's Got Finesse Blockers Brick, Mangold, Moore and Howard are all finesse blockers not road graders. The Jets need some mashers on the front line. Hopefully Moore will be replaced next year and maybe a powerful RT. Then you will see the Jets force their will on defensive lineman.
Powell will see more time, he has laterall movement...Greene is becoming more and more like a bull rusher who needs another RB to compliment him. Hope Powell is that guy
Powell is more shifty and seems to fall forward pretty well. Serviceable in pass pro and he seems like he has pretty good hands out of the backfield, other than that drop of course. They should split carries 55-45, 50-50 at the least.
