    1. Ok. I know Jets do not have the likes of Frank Gore. I get that. But that does not explain why their backup was averaging healthy 4.x yards a pop. (Hunter ran 5 times for 23 yards.) (Powell ran 9 times for 33 yards, in contrast.)

    2. I really think Conner has to contribute more as a blocking fullback than now. Sure, he is about 10 lbs lighter than Bruce Miller, but at 245 lbs, he should pack a punch as a blocker still.

    3. 49ers run game featured a lot of old school running; but it's nothing we didn't see during Callahan's lead as an OL coach; they just added a few extra flavors with their fullback to make their rushing attack more potent. They utilized Bruce Miller in various blocking scheme and they consistently created good running lanes; the most 'salient' type of blocking from Miller was a simple inside trap - it was very simple yet Gore and Hunter could gash Lions front seven run after run.

    4. It's not that complicated, really; it's a simple Wing-T football. It simply starts from making sure that you always have a number superiority at the point of attack. Ok. Greene is not the premier back that Adrian Peterson or Frank Gore is - that I admit. Still, I do not think, scheme-wise, Jets rushing attack makes sure that they always have more men to block the defenders.

    5. Which brings us to: why Greene gets so many haters. He simply does not have any move. He has no means to make the first guy miss - which becomes paramount in a rushing scheme that does not always punish the defense with superior numbers.

    6. Thus, unless something changes, Jets running game will stay mired throughout the course of the season. Not a comforting thought, but it's what it is.

We need to draft a more speedy/tough RB. Someone who can break a tackle and makes an effort to get loose. +Speedy backs are funner to watch.

Your team already has one. His name is Joe McKnight. I dont know why the fans and coaching staff hates him. He's a good back if given the opportunity. Ive been saying all offseason that I think by the end of the year he'll be your starter/split time. I like this guy.

Conner looked like he had a bad knee injury today.

I like McKnight but like Greene, I don't see him ever reaching 1000 yards if he was to start, he looks like Reggie Bush looked last year at the beggining of the year, when he was scared to run between the tackles.

EDIT: I know Greene could have 1000 yard seasons but averaging 4.2 yards a carry, I meant like Greene as in he just can't get the job done as a #1.

Kinda funny when the pass game isn't clicking how we are so quick to realize the run game is necessary as a means of moving the football.

haven't seen much explosiveness from the jets backfield since the good days with sir leon washington.

The Jets have no backs that are above replacement level at this point. Shonn Greene is an average to slightly below average runner and a weak receiver. His overall value is well below average. The other guys just aren't that good.

For whatever reason the Jets do not do a good job of scouting college backs. They don't find good ones very often and they have not found a solid all-around back in the college draft since before Bill Parcells came to town.

They put together one really good RB committee in 2009 with Jones, Greene and Washington and then they lost Washington to injury. They had on ok but nothing special committee in 2010 with LT and Greene but LT was getting old so it was a one-year solution.

The problem the Jets have right now is they just don't find enough really good players in the draft, even with all the trading up. They're always fixing last year's problems and never creating any strategic depth in the process.

When was the last time a Jets draftee came out of nowhere to be really good?

I'm thinking it was Jason Ferguson in 1997.

Powell ran for 33 yards on 9 carries but 2 of those carries were at the end of the 1st half when Rex just wanted to eat the clock so take out those 2 carries and 4 yards and you got 7/29 thats 4 per carry not to mention he hit holes faster, spinned, jumped over guys and was solid is pass protection

Greene is good for late in the season but when the game is trying to be won he is useless

Would it be nice to have a Gore, Rice, AP, MJD, Foster, McCoy....yes but we dont and we need to either let Powell blossom or make a move

I'm half convinced right now that it isn't the back, but rather, the Oline or the actual blocking schemes that Sparano has installed.

Take the San Fran game and Gore, most of his runs were due to the fact that the Oline, the TEs and the FB opened up nice holes for him to run through. There were a couple of times where the blocking broke down, and Detroit completely stuffed him.

Unless your name is Barry Sanders, if you don't have good blocking up front opening up holes, you aren't going to get many yards.

For young RB, the leash gets smaller and smaller when you turn ball over. Only recent example I can think of where young RB that fumbles continues to get carries was Adrian Peterson. If he wasn't showing franchise-level talent I'm sure he would've been yanked off & maybe even shipped elsewhere in the early years.

RB with "fumblitis" and WR with "dropsies" sometimes turn it around when they move to another team. Jets fans saw pretty good hands from Braylon Edwards during his tenure to the surprise of Browns fans. Other teams should be looking at acquiring McKnight for something cheap next offseason - maybe a 5/6th rounder would pull it off.

We have one of the top 5 RB's in the league, but he just stands on the sideline with a chart.

Get Tebow in there to get us yards.

    Remember GROUND and pound.

He can run and sometimes throw it.
