Trent Dilfer @TDESPN Gonna take me about an hour to get through #filmstudy of Sanchez. Stand by Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez Biggest thing that jumped off tape was how decisive he played. Saw pictures clearly, processed quickly & #Dealt Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez His timing & anticipation were as good as I've seen from him. 1st two TD's he utilized nice pump fakes & anticipated well Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez=Excellent on 3rd down making the correct decision "quickly" & getting to weakness of D. Also, very good location on passes Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez One of the best plays was flea flicker to Hill to open up 3rd. D had soft cov on corner route & 6 throws back shoulder Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez showed some #GraduateLevelQuarterbacking with quick eyes, pump fakes, & shoulder nods to help open up receivers. Surgeon? Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez/Jets Lots of credit to Oline for clean pocket on most throws, but Sanchez also got ball out really quick. Combo=effecient Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez Concerns are when he has to play 2nd reaction game. Ball security is brutal & wasted movement. Pocket conflict=breakdown Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Sanchez Also concerned he hasn't fixed over stride w/front leg when climbing forward in pocket=inconsistent location & ball speed Trent Dilfer @TDESPN #filmstudy Jets Holmes struggled w/tough bump & run cov. Tebow plays had a chance, but poor execution of blocking, & Hill has nice feel 4 gm Trent Dilfer @TDESPN Sorry, definition of terms: 2nd reaction quarterbacking is when the D forces the QB to change is foot platform in or around the pocket. Trent Dilfer @TDESPN definition of terms part 2: 3rd reaction quarterbacking=D forces QB to avoid in pocket then turn into scramble/pass mode out of pocket
Dilfer's also been a supporter of Sanchez at times. I think he kind of flows with what he's seeing in front of him.
Dilfer has been a Sanchez supporter since draft day 2009. I'd like to buy into this, but I'll need to see more from MS before I buy in. Not that I disagree with his analysis, but I want more. Don't call the guy a surgeon after game one.
We've seen the very good Sanchez before. He has had games in the past where he has looked elite. The biggest issue with Sanchez will always be consistency. He reminds me of Joe Flacco in that department. A guy who at times has you shaking your head because of the careless mistake but at other times looks to be as good of a QB as there is in the league. With Flacco it looks to all be coming together (going back to last year). I still thikn Mark can be that guy but he needs to be consistent. No games like the Ravens game last year.
Hes always had the potential at every level, until he got to the NFL, and got saddled with a Pop Warner coordinator.
I dont think hes calling him a surgeon. Its his analysis of Sanchez based on the Bills vs Jets film alone, and nothing else
Dilfer has been more critical of the Jets FO for the way they have handled Sanchez. I think Dilfer sees a lot of ability in 6 but The Jets have not developed it properly. I remember after the 45-3 loss to Pats in 2010 Dilfer was on ESPN radio at 9pm or something and whomever the host was let him go on and on about the Jets and Sanchez and what they could do better and what 6 can do etc. It was like 20 minutes of him going over the team, the FO & 6. Thought it was pretty insightful. Steve young has been the same way. And the interview of Steve when he talked about how Rex called him to look for pointers after Steve was on the radio being critical of Rex and how Sanchez was handled. I thought that was a great moment in radio. /tangent
As everyone else said, Dilfer is a Sanchez fan, but not a fan of how the FO has developed him. I remember he said something along the lines of---If you want to look at how not to develop a QB, look at the Jets---
I believe Dilfer is the one that said if you want to write book on how not to raise a QB you can title it JETS. I was excited to see that Sanchez was going through reads quickly. It wasn't just one read and throw. He had to progress according to Dilfer
I know Dilfer annexed those two definitions of 2nd and 3rd Reaction QBing, but I still don't totally understand what they mean. Can someone who's knowledgeable about those two facets explain them in clearer wording?
I don't disagree with any of that. But I still want to see consistency. I have been a Sanchez fan for a while but I want to see the pudding skin in the sink.
It was a great line and it happened right after the Tebow trade. "If you wrote a book on how not to develop a young QB you'd just title it Jets."
Any QB who was taking hits like that throughout the game, would have a game like Sanchez. He was getting absolutely destroyed. The Ngata hit to the chest hmy:hmy: But, I do agree. His biggest thing he needs to improve on his how consistent he is. All we need from the offense is for them to be in the middle of the pack. Having an elite defense, an elite special teams and an average offense should put you where you need to be come January -- and that is in in the promise land.
Debatable. Wouldn't it nice to have all three elements working? If anything, week one shows that Sanchez (and protecting him) is key.
