Although the ultimate team player, Tebow is also a 'football-aholic' who craves to be a starting quarterback in the NFL. And, according to a league source, a permanent backup role to Mark Sanchez could lead to him to request a trade Tim Tebow is fired up as he runs over to the Broncos sidelines between plays, a wild-eyed look on his menacing face. He’s consumed by the moment as his athletic arrogance and competitiveness take over from the respectful personality he displays off the field. “There is only one person who carries the ball right here!” Tebow screams at the Broncos coaches. He doesn’t mean Knowshon Moreno. It is Tebow’s rookie year in 2010, the next-to-last game of the season, and Denver has a second and goal from the Texans’ 6. “Did you score on the next play?” Tebow is asked Wednesday. “Yes, sir,” he says. Tebow runs around the left side for the winning touchdown with 3:02 remaining in the Broncos’ 24-23 victory. He has had success in the NFL as a starting quarterback, he’s just 25 years old and he’s extremely competitive. So how long can he possibly be satisfied as an afterthought in the Jets’ offense after taking just nine snaps in the ineffective Wildcat — it was more like the Pussycat offense — in the opener against the Bills? He ran five times for just 11 yards and didn’t attempt one pass. He won’t make a stink during the season, but if Mark Sanchez doesn’t provide an opening to play, then I think Tebow is one-and-done as a Jet. I believe he endorsed the trade to the Jets rather than his hometown Jaguars because he felt he would have a better opportunity to get on the field as a quarterback. Sanchez was vulnerable, but he has responded to the pressure put on by Tebow. If what the Jets saw from Sanchez against the Bills is what they will see all season, then not only won’t Tebow have a chance to take over as the starter, but the Wildcat snaps could diminish as well. The entire Tebow package is what has made him so popular: his unique style of play, his faith, his mild-mannered way, the guy John Elway says he would want his daughter to marry the day he signed Peyton Manning and two days before he traded Tebow to the Jets. Tebow is a football player. Football players want to play. “I definitely am very competitive, but the number one thing to help competitiveness is winning football games,” Tebow said. “However I can help this team to win football games - that’s the ultimate goal and that’s why we’re all here. Whatever I can do to help us win football games, that’s what I am going to do.” Just eight months ago, he threw an 80-yard touchdown pass on the first play of overtime against the Steelers in the wild-card round of the playoffs. He passed for 316 yards and two touchdowns and no interceptions as the Steelers dared him to throw. On Sunday, the Jets play the Steelers, and Tebow craves any scraps the Jets throw at him to get on the field against the team he knocked out of the playoffs. He continues to provide all the politically correct answers about playing time and his role, but you know it has to be eating him up. “I think he will be a good soldier,” one NFL source said Wednesday. “At the end of the year, I think he will express those concerns to the Jets. He will want to move on. The one thing about Tebow is he is the quintessential team player. He would never do anything that is going to undermine the team. But he’s football-aholic. It’s in his blood.” If Tebow remains in his limited role all season, then the source anticipates the QB will sit down with Jets decision-makers and ask them to trade him. His contract runs through the 2014 season, and Tebow is not ready to concede defeat on being a starting quarterback again. “Absolutely he will talk to the Jets or we will have misevaluated his competitive nature,” the source said. “There comes a point, where they get it and realize this is who I am and just accept that role. Tebow is not there yet.” Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/f...-ny-jets-2013-article-1.1158125#ixzz26MDU4TlX
Rotoworld: An NFL source tells the Daily News that Tim Tebow could ask for a trade following this season. This is a case of connecting the dots, not a report from Tebow's camp. He is a highly competitive guy that wants to start. And if Week 1 is a sign of things to come, Mark Sanchez isn't going to relinquish the starting job this season. So the source suggests that Tebow, who won't hit free agency until 2015, will ask for a ticket out of town. This will probably be a moot point because we anticipate Week 1 being Sanchez's finest performance of the season.
ehh, he hasn't shown enough in preseason to have any stock to demand a trade. He needs a pre-season where he looks at least borderline as a passer before he is able to go anywhere. He will be a jet in 2013, unless the jets cut him.
this article comes from the daily news and Gary fucktard Myers whose just trying to stir shit up and make a controversy. Why? Because Sanchez played well so he couldn't write a HOLY SHIT ITS TEBOW TIME article. Guaren-mother fucking-tee if Sanchez has a half way bad game this week M0nday morning it'll be.... Sanchez Comes Up Short...Tebow Eyes #1 Spot Permanently Mark Sanchez is one more bad game away from being permanently replaced by the newest NY Jets superstar Time Tebow. i cant even read the papers anymore or watch these TV assholes...its so predictable and enraging. Like all the guys who shit on the Offense in the preseason and talked up Buffalo. SO the Jets come out and hang 48 on Buffalo and its....Well, Week 1 also doesnt mean much and Buffalo sucks a dick. Samething...if we happen to beat Pitt this week it'll be....Well, Pitts oline is weak...their D is old...San Fran will be the real test!! Then we'll fuck up and lose to the Fins...article - PRETENDERS!!!
Yeah I posted the article without really reading it all then soon after realized it was conjecture. My bad. Nothing to see here.
Seems likely he feels that way, he just wouldn't say so to create distraction at this time. He's looking for a starting gig.
Oh come on... after one game!? I'm hating this Tebow shit by the media... BTW how many team would offer him a starting role?
Tebow thought he'd have a better chance beating out Sanchez then Gabbert? I don't know if i believe that. He can request anything he wants but if he's under contract it's not his call. I personally wouldn't care if he left.
Tebow wants to start, but he'll be a good teammate to Mark and anyone else while he is in NY. Who knows how long he will be a Jet? The author could be correct.
It had zero to do with Sanchez or Gabbert. There was a reason he didn't go to Jax and I doubt he will ever go there as long as that reason remains or it is his only option.
the reason that was kicked around at the time of the trade is that the coach specifically told Tebow he had no interest in him and there would be no QB competition. He would only see the field as a special teams player and would not be the backup The coach has been very vocal against having Tebow in Jax
This is bs speculation, Tebow or his agents would be retarded to demand a trade. Tim Tebows known for being a team player and doing so would erase his reputation, which is what makes him most appealing. Now maybe if the jets season ends a disaster and tebow still as a backup qb. But if the jets see success it will do nothing but make him look like a me first player. Furthermore if he's good enough to be a starting qb it'll show in time. Im getting sick of people complaining that ne needs to be given snaps under center to throw this offense out of rhythym during regular season games. He's a backup qb. How do other backup qbs beat people out? In the offseason and making it obvious they should be starting in camp People keep blaiming the NFL and its coaches for why he hasn't developed, blame Urban Meyer and his system. It will never produce a franchise qb. Mark that down. Furthermore while I've been a critic of tebow in the sense I don't see him as a full time starter in a conventional offense, he has the talent, but I've read each offseason about him working on his mechanics and throwing motion and have yet to see the results. These storieshave been coming out of UF after his sophmore season and the only time I saw a legit change in his mechanics and a visible atempt of a shortened throwing motion is this yr in jets training camp. Id love for him to remain on this team because I think he contributes in many ways being as athletic as he is, plus in the locker room. That being said I don't ever see him getting his shot here so the question is does he want to win or does he want that final shot to prove everyone wrong? My guess is he would never demand a trade. If so certainly not after this season.
I don't think anyone here is making that argument. If he gets snaps during the game, he should typically be in the shotgun with WRs spread out. Most people think he should be a punt protector/FB/TE/wildcat QB. There are some people, like me, who think that he should just hold the clipboard and improve his QB skills so that he is ready if Sanchez gets injured or very seriously struggles. My only complaint is that I think that his special teams/WR packages don't do much for the Jets and he should focus on the craft of QBing. There are legitimate special teams guys who would do a better job than Tebow on special teams.
