Shonn Greene is a TERRIBLE feature back. Serviceable player? Sure, but as a feature back, he is god awful. Greene is not above average at anything... not power, not quickness, not speed, not vision, not pass-catching, not elusiveness... and the list goes on. In fact, he is BELOW AVERAGE almost across the board in my opinion. If a guy is not going to be spectacular athletically, then he has to be spectacular in terms of reliability and ball-security (see C. Martin). Greene fumbles too much, AND is always injured, or appears shaken-up.

Yeah, I missed the Bengal TD at the half. Thought it was 17-3 and maybe the Ravens would add to it then go to a work horse backup at RB.

There he was, hitting the whole hard. (Shonn Greene, Jr.)

He played well at Georgia Tech, big kid.

At the combine he was 228, ran a 4.59, was a top performer in vertical leap (41.5), 3 cone, and 20 yard shuttle. A real "under the radar" player in my book. Ravens got him in the 6th or 7th (I forget).

The ground and pound isn't sposed to be sexy. Its supposed to wear the defense down and keep them honest.

Mission accomplished. Anyone notice our wrs had alot of 1 on 1s? I wish thix msg board respected our run game as much as NFL DEfENSIVE COORDINATORS do.

And im one of those people who complains about the OL. Namely the interior run blocking. Im beginning to think most people here don't understand line play and run blocking schemes.

Greene "running into OL" is him doing what he's told and having faith in his OL. Greene isn't Lesean mccoy, quit expecting to see him make on the dime cuts for holes that open up two gaps over or let alone opposite of playside. Were not zone blocking anymore.

I will give you this, Greene can be a workhorse, just not a gamebreaker. And I think Powell is legit I've been on his bandwaggon since his days at Louisville, that being said until the interior OL plays more consistently Greene is the only back here who can make chicken salad out of chicken shit and guarantee positive yards albeit it in small chunks.

And please some of these RBs you guys are throwing out as obvious improvements and the supposed answer to a more explosive running game are downright laughable.

Dwyer is the only name I've seen so far that is intriguing. I liked him at GT. Quick feet for his frame and usually has good pad level.

Ps. Brandon moore is on his farewell tour, id like to see him replaced next yr. He went from a top tier Run blocker to solid. His footwork has slowed down, but that's to be expected at his age.

Slauson is solid but nothing worth writing home about.

So call me crazy but the OL needs more time to gel in the scheme switch and our OGs aren't as good as people think.

There's as much room for improvement there as people point fingers at greene.

    Thanks for making sense...
A- Its a the 1st game of the year
B- He kept at it and found the end zone
    finally...
    C- what is 94X16=???

Let me help you football geniuses... its 1504 yards!
Sounds a lil low for da perfect Jets. Since when was rushing for 90+ yards bad???

YesI agree id like the ypc to be higher but to complain after 1 game plz.

His ypc last year was over 4 also

Greene does better as the defense gets worn out and the tackles aren't as strong.

He did best in the playoffs in the second half after Thomas Jones wore them out.
TJ knew how to fall forward and get the extra yards needed which Shonn doesn't.

From what it looked like Powell was getting the extra yard or two from falling forward. Would it be too farfetched for Powell to play the first half and Greene the second?

Larger number of carries comes with a larger time of possesion, Greene did a fine job.

If we block for greene, we will be fine, seems to be only a step away from from breaking a long one here and there.....i know he hasnt done much since those couple of playoff runs but dammit, he is ours!.....better backs out there?, and maybe available?....yeah maybe.....give him another couple games, lets see what happens, i smell something special.....i been rooting for this team for 43 years....this game against the steelers in week 2 is gonna be defining for our season...dont miss this one, spread the word, and watch mr. greene move the sticks when they need to be moved........Go Jets

How about running McKnight? Dude has got explosive speed. I think the Jets started running him in a few games last year or the year before and he did well. Use Greene as a power/short yardage back. McKnight is a waste to use strictly on special teams.

The only worrisome thing from Greene was the fumbles. One of them seemed like he wasn't even touched and just straight dropped it.

I read that stat that 24 or 25 of the 27 rushes went for positive gain. That's all we needed. According to reports, the Bills came out to stop the run so we kept them honest and passed at will.

    Thanks.

What did the people crying that he sucks, think of him before Alan Faneca & Damien Woody were replaced by Slauson and whoever......?

Yea, when he was at USC. But, as a Jet he has not fumbled once (I know it is a very small sample size).

My bad...didn't look at special teams. Didn't realize he lost that many last year. I will retract my opinion about McKnight.
