well it looks like the Offense really sucked today...chad would look like crap...and in the middle of typing swear words he would wow us with a nice pass...then in the middle of us praising him..he would somehow screw it up again...albiet a floating pass to coles that gets him creamed..my initial though was he isnt on his game due to his time off...i hope thats it and he comes back next week and lights up phili...Clemens didnt look much better either...our offense really was horrible...but our defense held up very nicely against a tough NFC contender which should give us something to smile about...enough about people saying that winning this game being important...its a PRESEASON GAME...its just to get the idea of where we stay and who needs to stay and who needs to go ** ahem JOLLEY ahem** but otherwise..im sadly upset with the overall performance... few thoughts: -Jolley should be booted...but it may cost us... -McCariens proves to be "somewhat valuable to the team...dont cut him.. -Penny is far too inconsistent - playcalling on Offense much improve - Barlow clearly wasnt ready to play...nice fumble - Is either coles or Rhodes hurt?? what was the update.. - E coleman looked pretty decent for his game back after getting the knife.. - does mangini ever smile??? lets hear it...
Rhodes actually came back into the game, I believe. Apparently, he had a "headache" after getting hit. Sounds like he got his bell rung, that's all. Hopefully, it's not serious.
3d game is usually indicative of whos gonna play and how well.....Im not so sure we can tell with this organization(ok, abysmul). I know that we saw some good defense early...and I know that Chad can do that dink and dunk a little....but we just cant seem to drive down the field and make that td
I was very pleased with the D and they will only improve throughout the year. The Giants avg 24 pts in 17 games last year. They were shut out once by Carolina in the playoffs and held to 13 once by Dallas. Those were the only two times they were held to 13 or fewer pts. The O on the otherhand has alot of work to do. The RBs really need to learn how to pick up the blitz. Chad's performance: IMO he threw the ball way to high down field and most of his passes were little dinks & dunks which I would blame on both the OC & OL. The OC might be calling those plays but if he isn't then the OL needs to give him some time to get the pass off. Grades. O- F D- A (held a playoff team to 13 pts) IMO we only gave up 9 if it wasn't for MILLER'S bone head play! Special Teams- B (would be an A but we did miss a FG) __________________
Pass protection was the problem here, and we all should expect it to be for a while. Nothing earth shattering or surprising. Glad we made it out with no injuries. That's really all you can take away from tonight's game.
Coles should have caught that ball and curled. He lost the handle well before the defender showed up. Did you actually watch the game? Rhodes came back in, his bell was rung.... coles also had his bell rung, but was close to being pulled anyway at that point. Clemens.... put up with the same protection Bollinger had last year.... none. Real good reason to make him carry a clipboard this year.
I was at the game tonight and when Rhodes went down it was scary he didn't move, but he was alright and got back up. The Giants fans were pissing me off on how they are great and we suck and chad sucks. Though eli didn't look too sharp his self neither teams offense looked too sharp. Who ever asked if Mangini smiles...............uhh he does
2 stand out palyers for me were Ball and Blaylock. ball showed some class moves and wrapped up well. Blaylock isn't done just yet and made a point. I know most people here don't like Blaylock , but I would give him a chance to prove himself. He did enough last night
We tried a 48 yarder and missed after we didn't attempt the 50yarder... Nugent had the distance but shanked it off the post.
There are no playmakers on offense or defense. All they have are good special teams. The only decent coaching is from Westhoff the ST coach. Players are forced to play positions that they are not suited for.. Robertson, Vilma, Ellis. There isn't a Jet player who will make a bid for a Pro Bowl spot, not on offense and not on defense. Whine about the media all you want but when even the national media says the Jets have the weakest roster and coaching staff, they are not wrong. This is a team whose FO and CS shed the players they didn't want, signed the free agents they wanted and drafted the players they wanted. They are accountable for the product on the field.
The fact that we are rebuilding cannot be overlooked. The D looks good because we have some talent on that side of the ball. On offense however, there are NO verteran playmakers. We (correctly) addressed the offensive trenches in the draft. We are going to have to wait until next April to improve the playmaking abilities of the offense. This should come as no surpise to anyone. This offense hasn't been able to move the ball since the '04 AFC championship game. Its going to be the same story as last year (offense goes three and out most of the time, leading to a tired D and 2-6 wins). Lets hope for the young guys to get some PT, bide our time until we have some young playmakers, and then we'll finally be able to put some points on the board. Its sucks, its frustrating, but its reality.
Pennington looked really bad, if he can't put a little more zip on his passes then we could be in serious trouble. The only thing more embarrasing than that high floater that got Coles damn near killed was how the announcers were trying to act like it was Coles' fault for not catching it. The defensive line looks pretty decent so far without Abraham but I'm not sure they can keep it up. Ellis needs to step up bigtime during the regular season. Aside from his stupid unsportsmanlike conduct penalty, I actually thought that Miller looked pretty good. He was much more fundamentally solid last night than he was the week before.
blah blah blah blah...Same old, same old. 1) It is preseason. 2) It is a rebuilding year. 3) Ummm...duh? That is the best response for this statement. EVERY FO AND CS SIGNS AND RELEASES THE PLAYERS THEY WANT TO!!! Who should do it? The towel boy?
Robertson and Vilma yes but not Ellis. Robertson and Vilma were drafted by the Bradway and Herm regime to play in the Tampa 4-3 scheme essentially to be the NY versions of Sapp and Brooks respectively. Ellis and Abraham were drafted by the Parcells/Groh regime in 2000 to be our 3-4 DE and OLB repectively. Ellis ended up playing the 3-4 only in his rookie season because Parcells left and Groh got fired to bring in Badway and Big Werm. That year in limited action both he and Abraham proved Parcells right in that they were perfect fits for the 3-4. Playing mostly on 3rd downs Abraham finished his rookie year with 16 total tackles, 4.5 sacks and 2 forced fumbles in just his first 6 games before a season ending injury. Ellis "led all Jets? defensive linemen in sacks (8.5). His 8.5 sacks place him behind only 1995 rookie Hugh Douglas? 10 in sacks by a Jets? rookie. Also holds the rookie tackle record with 53 despite only starting the final two games. In conclusion, I believe Ellis is suited to play the position he is currently playing, a 3-4 DE.
Giants were missing three fifths of there starting Oline, i believe. Also the way Jets played on defense- dropping alot back in coverage. It was a very effective game plan as eli looked confused. Now would jets defense been as effective with Giants starting their regular oline. No one knows.
giants were missing 2 lineman Petigout and Shaun O' Hare. What does it matter if they started the original o-line Manning had a Shit load of time anyway
