Really? There were plenty of people who wanted Schotty out when Mangini went. Schotty had quite a few detractors that go way back. Itr just became much more vocal last year when everything went south.
Plus, he has me on ignore because he probably found himself masturbating to the Muppet Show after seeing my avatar a few hundred too many times.
This isn't a point in Schotty's defense, but I'm not quite sold on Sparano yet. He did a great job calling a balanced, effective offense yesterday, but it helps that Buffalo didn't bother showing up. The results in Miami weren't always so pretty (granted he wasn't calling plays, but it was his team.) All I can really say after week 1 is, so far so good.
Sparano wasn't the OC in Miami... Henning / Daboll were. Sparano was the HC. They are not equal responsibilities.
It's early but it was only one game FYI A few 35+ games from the schotty era 48-0 against the jags 37-7 against the packers 40-13 against the dolphins 56-35 against the cardinals 47-3 against the rams 38-0 against the raiders 37-0 against the bengals 38-14 against the bills 38-7 against the bills
Meaningless. The most telling stat was points scored in the 1st quarter, something Schotty's offenses were totally completely inept at. And this happened in our opener. How cool was it to start the game with a lead?
Schotty or Sparano ....Its still funny that the entire football world gave the Jets up for lost, and picked the Bills to not only beat the Jets opening day but finish second overall in the division as they are a much improved team. Now that the Jets went medieval on their asses , all the pundits and nay sayers say "hey its only the Bills" ...funny being on the outside looking in on this one.
Youre just nitpicking. Let's see how the season plays out before we annoint Sparano as the 2nd coming of air coryell.
That's what's funny to me too. Before Sunday the Bills were this big bad team that the Jets were supposed to be afraid of. Now that we whooped them, it was "only the bills".
Not sure why we can't enjoy a victory without having to rub in the Schottenheimer thing and confronting other Jets fans about it. Besides its only week 1. I liked what I saw from the Offensive Coordinator but he was the beneficiary of 4 turnovers, 1 Defensive touchdown and a special teams touchdown. Schottenheimer probably puts up 48 too with all that. Either way, who cares let's just enjoy the win.
I love the way people suddenly change their tunes after the fact. Bills fans have been posting here for the last month talking about how the Bills are going to destroy the Jets and analysts were saying there's no way our line could contain Williams. Now the Bills just suck, it has nothing to do with the Jets playing near lights out on all 3 teams.
Before judging one way or another I'd like to point out two, what should be, very obvious points. 1) it's only 1 game. 2) The Buffalo secondary just isn't very good and their defense is suspect. Repeat the success next week against Pittsburgh, who while getting older, are a good defense. By repeat the success I don't mean 48 points, just the flow and game performance. One game means nothing in terms of how the offense will function, especially against a suspect defensive unit.
That's why I explicitly pointed out that he wasn't calling the plays. He's the head coach though, the final responsibility still falls on him if the offense isn't getting it done (and the same goes for Rex, for that matter.) Hopefully the Jets offense can pick up where it left off next week, and this whole conversation is moot.
I'll tell you one thing, the flow and tempo were much better, our guys were lined up and ready to smash and gash all game long. Just seemed like the offense was much more in sync than it's been.
1st punt of the game happened in 4th quarter - and that's not because the offense kept turning the ball over. Man, that was great. Schottenheimer's offense will have the punter ready and kicking come 1st quarter.
