I was surprised how slow Tebow looked in the Wildcast. He has few moves and little speed. Unless he is going to throw out of the Wildcat, I don't see how it is going to help the team.

Tebow made his name by being a quarterback who was hard to take down when he dropped back. He was able to break tackles and get into the open field because rushing the passer is far different than defending a run.

Brad Smith was far superior at the Wildcat because he had speed and moves.

I think we'll see less and less of this contraption as the season goes on.

I liked Tebow in the H-back looks. The Jets need to do more of that. He's got the size to play the position and he's the kind of guy that if you give him an outlet he can take it a ways.

I'm sure it was practiced but the game was so out of hand early that I think they may have scaled back some of the plays they intended to run and just kept in vanilla. No reason to show your hand if you don't have to.

I think the Jets played so many Tebow package runs today to make sure future teams have to gameplan for it. I doubt we'll see him throw the ball soon, I would guess not until week 5+

Also, the Jets technically only ran 2 wildcat plays today, the breakdown was the following (per Rich Cimini)
    • two in the Wildcat (with Mark Sanchez split out)
    • six in the read-option (Tebow as the quarterback)
    • one at tight end.

    The whole bit from Cimini
Wildcat a dud: After all the build-up, all the ridiculous hype, the Jets' Wildcat was a bust. It produced little and fooled no one. At one point, Tim Tebow was booed as he trotted off the field. All told, he played nine plays on offense -- two in the Wildcat (with Mark Sanchez split out) six in the read-option (Tebow as the quarterback) and one at tight end. The eight plays with Tebow under center produced only 22 yards. Talk about a buzz kill. The Jets, no doubt, will say that other components of the offense flourished because the Bills had to spend time on Tebow prep. Tebow finished with five rushes for 12 yards.

The Bills gameplanned to see a heavy dose of Tebow I think. That was evident by the way he was contained today.

This wasn't a bad thing though, since Buffalo was not prepared for a strong passing attack.

He actually never ran a straight QB keeper or dive play. All of his runs were zone read (or fake the zone read) which requires the QB to stand still at the mesh point and then pull it out and run.

He's at his most explosive in the empty backfield. Spread out the line and receivers, let him pick a hole and crash through it.

He had a 3-cone at the NFL combine which was the same as Ray Rice's, still the fastest 3 cone among all RB's since that time. He's very quick at close quarters -- deceptively so.

It looked like most of the triple option BS he ran in Denver last year. Those plays where Sanchez is out as a receiver have to go out of the playbook though, DB's are going to be smart and take free shots at him on the line.

Its week one. And Brad Smith never threw out of the Wildcat either.

Typical fucking Cimini... so because the guy didn't light it up in a game in which at one point the team was up 41-7 it's a dud. I still contend that they stuck with a vanilla offense with Tebow because they were up so big early.

Check that -- in three years of combine since, one RB has beat Tebow's 3 cone time: Chris Rainey.

And it was supposed to ruin the rhythm of the offense to run a Tebow play, but the Jets offense was on fire. But no mention of that.

There are still a few issues to be dealt with here. Bart Scott is still slow as hell and was directly responsible for Revis leaving the game when, while trailing yet another play, kicked Revis in the back of the head. I saw very little pressure applied to Fitz w/o a blitz package being called and the run defense, on whole, sucked donkey dick. So, an apparent weakness on the team was a strength today and an apparent strength was a weakness. Ryan needs to get this straightened out PDQ. He has time. Now all he needs is to admit to himself that his vaunted defense needs tweaking just a little bit to be come truly elite as an elite defense doesn't allow 28pts to the Bills today.

i wouldn't get too upset about tebowcat. Its the first game and it was utilized effectively to help keep the Bills D off balence. Not everything is going to work perfectly on wk 1. We take the W and go get ready for Pitts.

And even considering it didn't hit a big play, they got a positive push for 3 yards most of the time.

You know what would be scary about the Tebow Wildcat? is if Sanchez leads a perfect drive towards the redzone, and Jets decide to put Tebow at Wildcat and he throws a pick completely ruining the drive. Hence, why I dont think they will have Tebow throw out of the Wildcat.

They'll put him in plays where he spreads it out, gives a look at a pass, and keeps it for a run if it's not there. Just "wide open" looks. They won't put him in a play where he drops back from under center and reads the field.

But things where he rolls left and can run/pass? That stuff is hard to stop. And 9/10 times Tebow will keep it and scarf the TD anyway.

Guys it is the FIRST game . . . . . lets SEE how it works out, as we ALL WELL KNOW they DID NOT use this in game situations during the pre-season . . . . just saying

The delay of game penalty was kind of bothersome, but I think overall it accomplished what they wanted. They generally picked up positive yards and gave Sparano and Sanchez time to work on planning.

I don't really agree that the run defense as a whole was so bad - I think the LBs are way too slow to be able to handle a runner like Spiller if he gets in space. The Jets will have a lot of trouble with runners like that if they get to the second level.

To be honest, I was surprised at how ineffective Tebow was. I did think they got a little smarter in when they brought him in - the drive in the first half where they brought him in on second down for an ineffective play and then brought Sanchez back in for 3rd down (that was the one where Kerley, I think, might have extended the ball over the first down line) was terrible. I think they brought him in on 1st downs pretty much exclusively after that. Overall the Jets showed little sign that they had any idea how to make this work, but complaining about it like Cimini did in a game where the offense scored 34 points is just idiotic.
