Not sure it was a conditioning issue. Apparently they wanted him to take a paycut and he declined. Haven't been following Ravens closely so who knows.
LT Bryant McKinnie says he has been released following a contract squabble with the Ravens. The Ravens want to reduce McKinnie's $3.2 million base salary. While he's open to a paycut, the two sides haven't been able to come to terms yet. McKinnie's camp is still trying to work out a deal, but it sounds like a dead end. He knows that tackle-hungry Teams such as the Cardinals, Jets and Chargers would probably end up bidding for his services. Sep 4 - 12:40 PM http://www.rotoworld.com/player/nfl/1210/bryant-mckinnie
Ian Rapoport @RapSheet Remember, it's a negotiation RT @AlbertBreer Ok. Another text from McKinnie: "Not officially over yet just got a call" #staytuned
sign him. if it only takes 3.2 and we are 8.1 under, then why the hell not? he is definitely better than our other 2 options right now.
Good guy Woody and straight shooter Tanny will offer him 500K for the season, plus the chance to play for Rex. Someone else will offer him 3 mill and that'll be that.
Not for nothing, but it's pretty telling when a team doesn't want to pay it's starting offensive tackle less than 2 million dollars. Last year, McKinnie gave up 8.5 sacks last year, which is not great. I could see him maybe doing better on the right? McKinnie's career is really sad. When he was drafted he was considered a generational prospect. He's never seemed to want it that much. Anyway, he might upgrade the running game, but I'm not sure what his pass blocking skills are like these days. -X-
And he'll probably be on IR in week 7 and people like you will forget they made this post, conveniently.
I highly doubt the Jets would pay 3 million for anybody at this point..especially in light of the fact they can carry unused cap space over to next year where they desperately need it. Unless of course they think he could make this a team with a chance to go deep into the playoffs..maybe he can, Ray Rice does ok running behind a line with McKinnie on it. So did Adrian Peterson.
Plax was the Jets attempt to tweak the Giants. Plus, good guy Woody was thinking PSL's. Now that he couldn't sell a PSL if his life depended on it, he doesn't want to spend a nickel. Even the Hunter trade, initally thought they were bringing back more money, which stunned me, ended up being that they were bringing back basically what Hunter was making.
No he isn't, in his ten year career he started all 16 games every year but 1 , 2008 in which he played in 12.
If it means more OL depth then yeah why not. And to say that he would help out the run game but maybe not so much the pass game is fine by me, one of them has to improve
Albert Breer @AlbertBreer Just asked McKinnie over text if he's staying ... He responded "Yes". Looks like they worked it out.
