This is based solely on press conferences and how Rex and co are speaking of him in reference to week 1. I get it, there is no need to tip your hand but this is different. The Jets are indirectly making it seem like he is making this team.

    My question is, why?

The #1 problem with him is his inability to stay on the field. So far he's validated that concern. I get the Lal connection and all but with Gaffney and what is destined to be others available, why keep him? He's useless if he's on the sideline, and he has not shown an inkling of ability to stay healthy.

His roster spot is extremely important IMO and I'm really hoping the Jets make a move there. He is the anchor between a rookie and Patrick Turner, and I really believe the Jets need a reliable veteran in that spot. Sadly, I think they will keep him.

    Hope I'm wrong!

well that would explain it, if true. The larger question is of all people to guarentee a contract, why Chaz "Glass" Schilens?

Only $105k is guaranteed. We save $500k if he's cut. Given his injury history I vote dump him before 53. Injuries waste skill.

the team constantly preaches, we are always looking to improve etc etc. With that said, they can't possibly look me in the eye and tell me that they can't upgrade his spot at this point.

Cut him and take the $500K plus $2 million and bring Plax back for 1 year.

There are 500,000 reasons not to cut Chaz, as mentioned by others.

Plax can be had for a vets minimum. He has no leverage, and has no team visits lined up. I really wouldn't mind bringing him in as a red zone receiver.

$500k is damned near irrelevant when it comes to improving the team by opening up an additional roster slot so you can bring someone else in.

No, 500k is guaranteed. We can cut him and save $105k, but his replacement will probably make almost half a mil, so we essentially bring in his replacement at just under a mil against the cap.

True, but we are not saving $500k. We actually lose around a mil, bringing in possibly an inexperienced undrafted rookie FA. See above.

Schillen, when healthy, will be a very good asset to this team. He has great upside to him. Lets see how his health holds up.

Hill who cant be trusted behind him. And Patrick Turner who has been around forever. Time for that guy to step up.

Key phrase there is "WHEN HEALTHY". How many practices has he been in this offseason ?

The guy has never had 30 catches or 400 yards in a season through 4 years in the league.

Schilens is made out of glass. GLASS. Cut him now and at least try to get Gaffney or even Stallworth.

Just because he makes the 53 doesn't mean he lasts till the Bills game.
