Depends what you consider a "win" for the WR. I don't think Revis will shut him completely down to the point where he gets no receptions at all but I think he'll limit to him to roughly half of what his regular weekly average yards and TDs are. That's a win for Revis in my books considering what a force Megatron is.
I think the question is how good a game does Stafford have? I don't think any WR can get great separation on Revis 1 on 1 (Stevie Johnson being the one exception, I guess) but if Stafford continues to elevate his play it is very hard to think that a freak like Calvin Johnson will not find ways to present himself as a viable target.
and that one catch was on like 3rd and 20, i believe stevie johnson had one game where he caught a few of 6-8 yard passes and was immediately tackled, he does not get separation from revis ... hes been shut down in every other game stafford has been good and is only getting better, his main problem is health ... but the best QBs in the league continually make poor throws in revis' direction b/c they fear that if they give revis a shot, he will get his hands on the ball
Seems like a large percentage of people are ignoring the one matchup they already had for some weird reason.
Absolutely. I wasn't ignoring the previous matchup I was saying for future matchups. For simplicity say Megatron averages 100 yards and 2 TDs a game (I know those aren't the real numbers, relax everyone) and Revis limits him to 50 yards and 1 TD (again, just a rough example showing it being cut in half) then I would consider that a win for Revis.
Stevie Johnson's game was the one time Revis has looked mortal, I just figured it was worth mentioning because of how unusual it was. The best QBs don't look too great when they go Revis' way, this is true. Having said that, the best QBs in the league don't usually have Megatron to throw to. If Stafford continues to improve it will be interesting if and when these two teams meet up again (assuming all 3 players are still on their respective teams and healthy).
Isn't winning games more important than infantile drivel like this? Who cares? Would it really make the OP happy if Revis shuts down Johnson and the Jets lose the game? I'd rather see Johnson catch 10 passes for 200 yards and 2 TDs and have the Jets win the game. Is this what we are reduced to? Rooting for some imaginary match up advantage between Revis and other players?
Because its a coin flip. Revis did it once. Its not outlandish to think Johnsson could make some plays on revis. Stafford is an elite qb and their offense has become more cohesive since then. Id expect under 70 yards and a red zone td.
im sensitive about this topic cause jills fans act like stevie was dominating revis in the second game and forget that he had a 40 yard catch in garbage time in the first game fair point
Stevie Johnson First game 3 catches for 84 yards If by 40 yard catch in garbage time you mean 52 yard catch midway through the 3rd quarter then you are right http://www.nfl.com/videos/nfl-game-highlights/09000d5d823d495e/Johnson-52-yard-catch Second game 8 catches for 75 yards and a touchdown Johnson vs. Revis on the year 11 catches for 159 yards and a touchdown Jets fans can keep telling themselves that Revis shut down Johnson.
revis has the most trouble with brandon marshall because he's very physical, stevie johnson because he's crafty and does not tip off his routes to revis at all, and quick slot receivers like welker and cruz
Considering it seems like our pass rush has gotten much better, I expect the next 1 to go to Revis. But definitely not 1 rec for 13 yards again. under 70 yards maybe a td.
Agreed. Marshall is the only WR I've seen Revis look mortal against. Stevie did well against Revis, but it seemed more in incremental gains (would have to double check my numbers on this).
Pure speed guys (Remember Ted Ginn?) give Revis more trouble than the WRs that win on size. I'll take Revis over Megatron.
