I know that we're all supposed to bow at the altar of Westy, especially in this his last season coaching, but our special teams are really starting to be a concern. The punter is atrocious, and should have been replaced after last season, we are losing the field position battle in every game, and the players seem to make an awful lot of mental errors on every unit. The last thing we need, especially with the state of our offense, is to have poor special teams play on top of everything else.

agreed. last nights game goes in an entirely different direction if mcknight doesnt run into the punter and then take the ball out of the endzone and get smacked on the 12 with a holding penalty on the play as well backing us up further. not to mention tj conley CANT FUCKING PUNT.

    1) They should be going after the punter Oakland cuts.
    2) McKnight could end up being cut based on what I've seen so far and where he is on the depth chart (behind powell).
    3) Running into the kicker is not roughing the kicker. Fuck the replacement refs.

The refs are bad but I won't use them as a crutch because the Offense is unbearable to watch...The defense gives you the ball 3 times in or a couple yards out of their side of the the 50 and we don't do shit.

I was specifically talking about the roughing the punter penalty. Until WFH is replaced we can't begin to evaluate the offense. It's like trying to see how well a car motor runs when it doesn't have a battery to start it.

Westy had nothing to do with our brainless penalties that cost out field position. You can't teach smarts, but you can cut dumb.

I actually think that McKnight wouldn't take that ball out in the regular season.

McKnight and Conley being replaced would be a HUGE improvement. Otherwise, Westhoff is just mailing it in before he retires.

Pretty sure any time you run into the non-kicking leg of the punter it is roughing.

I agree, removing Conley and McKnight would be the simplest kind of addition by subtraction.

I could think of plenty of soccer players we could pick up on the cheap to replace Conley.

I disagree with McKnight. IMO, you might see him run back a couple for 6 this year.

Agreed but last year his fumbles cost us more points than he made in his returns.

McKnight is fine at KR. Punt return is a question mark right now, but Kerley isn't playing yet.

Punter, yes. It's hard to justify not bringing in more competition for Conley considering the mediocre year he had last year and the bad preseason he's having now. I'd be surprised if Tanny didn't bring in some cuts from other team at punter this week or next.

I see other teams have great punters and kickers for years. But the Jets and I think it Westoff's ego think they can find a P/K on the cheap and it shows. Each one that leaves becomes a star when they leave the Jets. Aguilar, Turner, Longwell. Just once it would be great to have a tandem that is in place for a decade like Lechter and Janakowski. Now Westoff does a great job in the kick return department and its the exact opposite . When they leave they become mediocre like Chad Morton, Brad Smith, Miller.

Very concerned with Conley at punter. Two shanked in a row is disgusting...lots of college punters way better
