No spoilers: you're looking at the War of the Roses where the main characters are modeled after the great Roman families that struggled over the Empire after Julius Caesar was assassinated.

You've already seen most of the major plotlines through Caligula's reign. It's just confusing because nearly a century of Roman history has played out in a very short time.

    New cast members revealed:

Diana Rigg was crowned a queen at Comic-Con in San Diego - and she was not even there.

The 73-year-old actress and several others were revealed as new cast members of HBO's Game Of Thrones for the fantasy series' upcoming third season. The former star of The Avengers will play Olenna Tyrell, also known as the Queen of Thorns.

Other additions include Mackenzie Crook as wildling raider Orell, Clive Russell as Bryndon "Blackfish" Tully, Nathalie Emannuel as slave translator Missandei, Paul Kaye as Thoros of Myr, Kerry Ingram as Shireen Baratheon and Tara Fitzgerald as her mother, Selyse.

The new cast members were not on hand at the show's presentation at the convention. Instead, a video of interviews with the new cast members was shown and fans asked questions of actors Richard Madden, Michelle Fairley, Alfie Allen, Emilia Clarke, Rose Leslie, producer Carolyn Straus and George RR Martin, the author of the book series that Game Of Thrones is based on.

"It's not a simple world of heroes and villains," said Allen. "The characters have flaws."

Other than revealing the new cast members, no information about the next season was given, except that it was filming in Ireland, Croatia, Iceland and Morocco.

Diana Rigg back in all her 60's The Avengers leather clad glory was about as hot as it was possible to be.

I wonder whats going to be the splitting point for the two seasons from the book? I would think the logical scene would be at Craster's place when everything goes to shit with the Watch. But then would they have another season finale involving Sam?

So I'm almost finished reading the first book now. They definitely stayed pretty damn true to the book in the TV show. Obviously some differences (as always) but overall pretty close.

It diverges from the books dramatically at some points for season 2.

Season 1 was pretty much right on the money.

It's weird because I've usually read the books first and then watch the TV show/movie so it's more like "hey they changed that, I don't like that" but now having seen the show and then reading the books I'm kind of bored because a lot of it is verbatim out of the book and I'm kind of looking for changes. But once I find changes I'll probably be critical of them. Does that make sense? Probably not, but oh well.

Damn! McNulty is one of my favorite TV characters ever - this would've been awesome. Too bad.

Maybe I'll download it or something. I checked it out and it says it was only two seasons long, did it end abruptly because it was cancelled or was it more of a mini-series approach? I know HBO does that pretty often.

No it was actually only supposed to be one season that ended after Caesar got killed, but it was so crazy popular that they came back and did Antony/Cleopatra.
