lmao so much overreaction over one fucking preseason game. so many chicken little SOJF pussies on this board. i can't wait to bump shitty threads like this when the Jets are in the postseason again for the third time in four years.
It was only a year ago when everybody was praising Tanny as a great GM now a year later he's dog shit and needs to be fired. Sports and life in general are just fucking crazy.
It means you were one of only 4 of 32 teams left playing at the end of 2 of the past 3 seasons if you actually believe that edwards, who has done nothing since leaving the jets was somehow the key to making 2 AFCCGs then you need to go re-watch the game tapes. :breakdance::breakdance:
"depth is great until you need it" a coach said that can't remember off hand who. lets look at the patriots.brady aside.they are worried about having to start solder.what happens if he goes down?lets say they lose gronk for a few games, how much easier do defenses defend against that offense?every team has holes every teams worrried about depth. the biggest flaw this f.o. has,i.m.o.,is bringing in too many older f.a. and not developing the rookies. this is a salary cap league you need production frm rookies to balance out the higher paid positions.so if you are going to have a brick and mangold you are going to have to fill in with a slauson.these guys may be average but you can't have 1st round picks and high $ f.a.'s at all positions.so would you rather have mangold at center and worried about him getting injured or the 16th best center and the best backup in the league?
It doesn't look good on offense right now but there is a chance the OL rebounds in the man scheme. The D will be good. You have to wait and see with that offense, 2 shitty pre season drives isn't enough to write this team off.
a totally ludicrous statement. factually incorrect and insanely premature. why not wait until you have more than 8 posts and until the team has played an actual regular season game before you start pretending to know anything about this team? We had an excellent draft, made key acquisitions and our younge players have all shown improvement after a full year of training and OTAs. so relax frances.
Thank you for this educational post. Attack my post counts. Because that really says if I'm a fan or not. Well I've been a fan for over 20 years so regardless of what you think I think I can post an opinion on this team. The draft was good, I'll agree. Hill has the tools to be good but he was in a triple option offense last year. To think he can step in as a #2 WR right away is crazy. This team seems to think that. Rex Ryan would disagree that Kerley has improved. The safety acquisitions were okay. I like Bell, but Landry is a risk who isn't a cover safety, which we needed. You failed to answer my question of what makes this an AFC conference game team. You don't need to see a regular season game or have 3,000 posts to answer that question. And why don't you relax "frances". No need to attack people who don't buy into the 2 AFC conference game in 3 years crowd. I see this team as a .500 team much like last year and I'm sure most others do as well.
Trading draft picks for Cromartie, Holmes, Tebow etc. If you build through the draft, the younger players come much cheaper than the experienced... This wouldnt be an issue had the Jets won the Super Bowl recently but we didnt,
You're right, we haven't. We have made improvements on defense, but the defense wasn't a huge concern for me last season. We have made changes on offense, but we don't know if they will be improvements. I do like the Tebow option, if we can use him the right way, but the rest are draft picks we hope will pan out. I'm not a doomsdayer, but I see 2 average QB's 2 average RB's, as a whole an average O-line 2 decent receivers, 1 average TE...
we drafted 3 players who are slated to have a big impact on the season this year and somehow we didnt address any of the issues? vlad is starting to look good, and we have a competition going on at rt. clearly, the management has their heads up their asses
But give credit to Tanny because now it seems the Jets are taking the Giants route and building through the draft. Thats why the Jets wont make a trade for Wallace or Harvin, I think they have realized that the picks are more valuable than these stars players who eat up cap space.
Like looking back was trading a 3rd round pick for Cromartie actually worth it? He eats up 10 million off the cap while a draft pick would be getting paid the minimum, which would then allow the Jets to sign free agents with the 10 million they didnt pay Cromartie. Its complicated because again, had the Jets won the Super Bowl the Cromartie trade and Holmes trade would look great, as it turns out we lost a 3rd and 5th round draft pick and we are paying the price now possibly.
If you make idiotic statements like "we have addressed none of the weaknesses from last year" don't be surprised when you get called out for it . You are just incorrect and you have yet to even attempt to back up that statement. Because you can't back it up . So stop pretending otherwise. The Jets have made significant improvements in the team during the off season, through the draft, free agency and developing the young talent that was already here. if you want to write off the season after one pre-season game, that is by definition ridiculous and reveals how irrational your opinions really are. yes you are entitled to express your sky is falling opinions, but that doesn't mean they will go unchallenged by the more knowledgable fans on this forum.
Building a team through the draft, developing young players, keeping payroll in check is a pipe dream. Yes, it's what every owner/GM/HC strives for, but be realistic. On a 53 man roster you MAY draft 1, possibly 2 (if lucky) starters. It takes years and years of being 'right' every draft to build a true power house. And after 4 yrs, those rookie contracts expire and the good players want to hit pay dirt, or you hit gold with a Revis who wants $16m/yr in his second season. The Redskins have been to the playoffs twice in the last 20 years and have burned top draft pic after top draft pic on QB's, like 6 in the last 10 years. Yeah, the Bills and Miami too. For every successful team that builds through the draft (Pitt, Colts) there are 5 teams that build through the draft and haven't sniffed the playoffs in 10 years. Rex Ryan = DEFENSE. Rex is going to use high draft picks for as long as it takes to build a top, dominating, suffocating defense, and then use what's left to build the best offense possible. Bears. Ravens. NY Jets....killer D, best possible O. Get used to it or go root for Miami.
good post...this is the reality of the situation...since the moment rex walked in the door we had an elite defense...that hasn't wavered. this year they are putting the TEAM in the best possible situation to succeed... if the jets went out and poured talent into the offense we wouldn't be looking at the type of defensive unit we have today and would be bitching and moaning that eric smith is yet again our starter alongside Brodney Pool, and saying we've done nothing to address the pass rush. The FO clearly went in and plugged ALL holes on defense to the best of their ability and added a play maker in Tebow to the offensive side while drafting Stephen Hill. All in all I say a great job. The hate toward Tanny is unfounded and short sighted IMO. There are very few...Actually let me rephrase that...There are NO teams in the NFL that have a dominant unit like we have on defense with a dominant unit on the other side of the ball..It simply doesn't exist... Packers = Great Offense and Poor Secondary. The Steelers are the only team that seemed to have tried the balance out approach and they are now left with an incredibly aged defense and huge holes on offense. I know people on a message board think they know better than the FO...But people need to look at the total picture before making such rash and silly statements.
